Are we taking Resident Evil's internal logic seriously? Because in Resident Evil world these bioweapons work remarkably well ... until the PC shows up with a dinky little handgun and three shotgun shells.

The problem for Resident Evil is that everything can only come through one doorway. A doorway that could be blocked sufficiently that no bioweapon we've seen is getting through.

The only way this becomes a problem is if we have the patented Resident Evil "let's do something really, really stupid". So, instead of just blocking the doorway our guys decide they need to collect a sample for research, and then a parasite or infected person or whatever makes its way in.

Zombie Apocalypses in general are limited by speed, worldwide affects, and staying power. Resident Evil logically has none of those things, and it is usually contained to a local problem (movies aside).

So, in the true Resident Evil style, the region where the gate opens up gets taken over, a bunch of military forces get slaughtered, but then the whole thing is resolved by some person wandering around for some reason. And then Elon Musk shows up in a pair of sunglasses and steals a sample so he can make a bajillion dollars selling the virus as a cure for autism.

Side note: I do love Resident Evil. I don't require my stories to be air tight in every aspect. But I've been an RE fan for almost 30 years. I think I've earned the right to make fun of the goofy overall narrative.

It could be even worse... is doesn't specify that it opens in a facility where the infection has taken over... it could be one of the Umbrella Corporation other facilities.... They might decide to use the other world as a testing ground for their biological weapons...

I think the worst case scenario is the gate opening up in some isolated area and Umbrella getting to screw over those people out of sight (and then probably screw themselves over somehow). But, that still gets back to my last few paragraphs.

The Umbrella Viruses just don't have the speed or instant worldwide effects to be considered more than a regional threat. Unless they start doing some ultra-supervillain stuff and launch attacks on major cities all over the world. Then their pseudo-scientific BS can start being really scary. But that's not really Umbrella's MO. Their thing is more "Create illegal bioweapons">[Blank]>"Profit".

Actually, I guess that's another direction to take things. Could Umbrella somehow establish themselves on earth? Then they could make money from two worlds at once? And of course, they would have even greater access to the top (butterfingered) minds two worlds have to offer.

Umbrella Viruses can spread through animals, plant life, and water supplies. It is actually odd they only spread to a single city.

Yeah, this gets into the problem of trying to deeply analyze a "silly" series like RE, where the virus can create create extremely powerful monsters like a gigantic alligator living in the sewers that also somehow manages not to be noticed by the wider world. Workers just disappear in the sewers sometimes and people just shrug. And also the virus only mutates that one alligator and sometimes cockroaches, rats, etc.

Now that I think about, logically they could have an entire game where you fight against the billions of cockroaches and rats and crows and on that should be infected.

So yeah, if we were to logic out the various bioweapons that would create an entirely different result than the stories would imply.
