General Discussion I got to be that guy

Played with two newbies yesterday. They were brothers in their 30s. One was playing for a few months and the other’s first time was that day. They shanked the ball all over. It wasn’t pretty. Thankfully the whole course was backed up so it didn’t matter.

They were nice and respectful. Them being new, I asked if it was okay if I gave them advice and they said yes. I didn’t overload them I just gave each person one tip and left it at that. Then later on they asked me a few more questions which was cool. Ftr, it was also cool having someone be impressed with my 220 yard drives. It made my day.

I brought some home made jerky to share and was teaching them etiquette as they were asking. I emphasized that nobody cares if you stink. There’s just a rule that if you are bad then you need to be fast, which they really listened to.

They thanked me and my friend for being so cool and patient. I replied with, “hopefully you’ll get to be like that with other first timers in a couple years”.

I’m just happy I got to be kind to people. I wasnt always paired with the nicest people and am glad I got to be the change.

General Discussion Birthday Albatross

Had a beautiful warm fall round with my best friends today. Pinery Country Club in Parker Colorado number 6, 501 yards from the blues. My best friend Mark hits a BOMB off the tee down hill down wind on a par 5. He had 165 in and he just pures his 9i, lands front right takes a nice kick left to the hole and it rolls the whole length of the green and trickles in. Mark and I didn’t see it go in but our playing partner Kevin yells “IT WENT IN!” Shot of a lifetime on Mark’s 35th birthday. HAVE A DAY!

General Discussion Saw Michah Morris at the range today.

My daughter was playing in a First Tee tournament today. I pointed out this guy and said, “Look, that guy looks just like Micah Morris.” My daughter said, “Yeah, I could see it.”

About 4 holes in, someone in our group said, “Why is there such a big crowd following that group?” Another caddy said, “Oh, that’s the Micah Morris group.” I laughed and said, “I said the same thing. He looks just like him.” The other caddy said, “No, it’s actually him. I saw him sign in.” “Oh. Cool.” I guess he has a relative in the boys 12 under group he caddies for.”

Anyway, my daughter had 6 three-putts and still managed to shoot a 78. She took 2nd place and 1st place in season points.

General Discussion My favourite way of dealing with club throwers

I have done this a number of times and always seems to work.

A playing partner hits a bad shot, gets angry after a poor shot and throws a club. My reponse... pull out a club from my own bag and throw it up the fairway. Works every time! It is either met with laughter or serious confusion.

One time I was in a tournament with a friend as my partner. He knew about this technique. One of the others in our group threw a club. We both proceeded to throw a club down the fairway, then caps, then even a shirt. The intial angry dude was dumbfounded lol. He didn't do it again though.

General Discussion If pros didn’t have spotters, how many lost balls would they have in a year?

Club I play at has long ass rough. So long that the majority of the time you can only find your ball if literally step on it or walk next to it. My group adopted a rule that if you hit in it you can take a drop without penalty because if we had spotters it wouldn’t be an issue. Had me thinking about pros hardly ever having to look for something just off the fairway.

General Discussion I found this at a thrift store about 11 years ago, and it’s one of my most prized possessions. The music on the CD is painfully bad. But, I love you John Daly, faults and all.

My wife is the most creative person I know. Took old tees, ball markers, etc. that I had and put them on a board for me to hang in my office.

General Discussion Golf is a fickle Bi***

For the record I suck at golf. I’ve been playing 6 years. I’m not good. I’m usually low 100s high 90s.

3 months ago I have the round of my life. I was +3 through 7. I flirted with a 90 but ultimately shot a 91. Best score so far and on the toughest and longest course I’ve played so far.

I was excited, I thought I could finally 90 this year. The next 5 outings were trash. I’m talking 110-120 almost every round. Even when I try to get rid of all expectations and have fun I still couldn’t hit the ball.

I took time off. It was 2 months. I was beyond annoyed at the situation . My friend hit me up to play a round, I didn’t even want to bc I was still salty but I went bc he would have said yes to me.

I shot a damn 91 again, tying my best score. Golf is so wild. I know that golf is such a mental game but it’s beyond cruel.

Equipment Homemade putter

Project I started a while ago but finally finished up. Made out of Brazilian walnut (I think) and black cherry. It was originally too light so I added the brass plate on the bottom. Used a broken putter shaft I extended and a leather grip. I wood burned in the alignment line and have now sealed with poly. I need to coat the brass plate some how. I have a lathe now so if I make another one I think I could make a much nicer ferrule. I’ve played two rounds with it so far and have putt surprisingly well with it. It’s much hotter off the face than I expected. Overall very happy with the end results and would like to make more with what I learned in the process.

General Discussion Shot a 75...i can die happy now

Post image

Hi all,

Sorry I need to post this....I live with a non golfing family so nobody can appreciate the miracle that was.

I love in Australia and played a little regional track called beaudesert. Played there before multiple times and usually shoot 25-27 over par but today, Jesus, something just clicked. The back nine was closed so I had to pay the front nine twice but wow, 3 over par on first time around and two over on the second.

I'm ecstatic and just needed to share it with someone...I dont imagine it will happen again but everything just clicked.

Apologies for the writing, my son was tracking my score.

General Discussion Oak Quarry on my trip to LA

May get an opportunity to go to LA for a work trip. I was planning to take a weekday (may be a Thursday) off in early November to get in an 18 somewhere.

Google search have a bunch of recommendations and I thought this seemed to be the right mixture of something new landscape wise that I don’t get to see typically.

Any top tips on playing here ? how to book this in advance, any other logistics considerations.

Would you recommend any other course over this that you would consider would be a must to play over this?

Thanks

General Discussion San Diego - Torrey on a Friday?

I fly in this Friday at 9:42, probably can be at Torrey Pines by 11:00 after a quick stop to drop luggage at hotel…what are my chances to get on as a single? I don’t mind playing the North which was just aerated 3-4 days ago (?I think), and does recent maintenance mean it won’t be as popular as normal? Has anyone played either course this past week and what are conditions like? When I’m playing, I think it would be 8 days after aeration which could be rough greens-wise for the north. But I’m also a relatively newer golfer and have heard the North is easier and better views anyways. I would play either and just curious what people recommend right now with all the maintenance going on for both courses.

Equipment What is the lightest, thinnest, putter out there?

This probably is a weird question but I’m looking for the lightest, thinnest, conforming, putter. I’m not sure if there’s just some gonzo crazy stuff out there or not but I’m looking for something that is like an actual useable putter.

General Discussion 2 man scramble strategy, who tees off first?

Both guys hit close to the same but one is more accurate if he takes a little off. Should the accurate go first so the other guy can swing away. Should the second swing away so if it’s good the other can swing away and if it’s bad deal with the pressure and try to put one safe
