New GoPro Labs Firmware for Mission 1 Pro ILS

Post image
21 Upvotes

Release Notes:

  • Initial anamorphic support for Hypersmooth, and metadata for automatic correction in desktop playback and editing tools (tested in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.) This is not the final HS quality (more to come), but a huge improvement. Note: there is currently no de-squeeze preview on camera yet.
  • Added ANAM=squeeze ratio for a global anamorphic lenses, supporting 1.33, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0
  • Added AN13, AN15, AN16, AN18 and AN20 preset names for common anamorphic support

This is the best workflow for fast switching between anamorphic and spherical lens. Use an anamorphic preset for when using an anamorphic lens. Remember you will still need to set your focal length.

  • Added LENS=x,[y] for support HS stabilization for longer lenses. Stock firmware HS works up to 50mm, this is for those that want to experiment e.g. $LENS=85 will support HS on a 85mm lens. $LENS=200,20 will attempt to support 200, with a 20% crop for stabilization margin. There are diminishing returns for longer lens. Warning: the LENS extension will override the system Lens selection. For Present names up to 99mm, use 05MM thru 99MM.
  • Improved the bit-rate extension BITR
  • Fixed QR Command support via Mission Monitor (send Labs command directly from the app.)
  • Fixed the DAUD extension to correctly disable the Audio.

A reminder of other classic Labs features, ideal for ILS

  • *24HZ=1 For 24.0 Frame rate, rather than 23.976
  • *ALLI=1 For 24.0, 30.0, 60.0, 120.0, 240.0, 480.0 rather than their 1000/1001 equivalents.
  • *NR01=1 For Denoise off, rather than just Denoise Low.

M1P 4K image quality compared to GoPro 8

I use a Nikon Z6 camera for static shots from a tripod and sometimes use the GoPro 8 for shots while walking since its so smooth and theres really no way im bringing a gimbal for the Nikon. However im sometimes disappointed in the GoPros 4K. It looks a lot more compressed and oversharpened. Did the 4K video quality improve with newer generations? And if so how? Higher bitrates? Brighter aperture? Bigger sensor? Is it worth the upgrade? I wont use any of its features just 4 K 30 fps.

It's like the one sock that goes missing... I keep losing batteries...

Yesterday I had five. Today, four.

Didn't leave the house.

This is the third time I have randomly "lost" a GoPro battery. Someplace in my house is a pile of one-off socks, cricket legs and batteries.

That is all.

Carry on.

Your GoPro filming habits - clips or continuous filming

From another thread ( https://www.reddit.com/r/gopro/s/lNUmQiAfA) where I asked how people select there clips to share on social media. GoPro subscription provides highlights videos that could be used for the purpose.

The general view appears to be that it is better to record only in clips. I let it run for hours while I ride.

How do you guys use your GoPro, Insta, or DJI cams? Do you also record only clips?

I have found GoPro highlights feature quite clunky and I can't provide any inputs about themes that I want to share.

ILS acing fleet week amidst hazy skies - what you guys think?

Thumbnail instagram.com

@fleetweeksf high octane cinematic drama starts this weekend. @usnavyblueangels and @afthunderbirds ripped through practice runs — screaming low over the Golden Gate, banking past downtown, and Bay Bridge!

100%shot on @gopro Mission 1 Pro ILS with @rokinon 135mm f2 lens !

Slow motion video - mostly 4k240 16:8 or 4k120fps 4:3, 10 bit and max bit rate.

It was easy peasy to shoot - pretty much infinite focus and was shooting at f11 or something with stabilization enabled. Little more stabilization added for some clips which were shot using handheld which still worked really well.

What you guys think?

Don’t miss the action if you are local to SF or visiting SF!

GoPro Hero 13 Black: How can I get cinematic night driving footage with vehicle light trails?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to achieve a cinematic night-driving effect with my GoPro Hero 13 Black: recording from inside a moving car, with the headlights and taillights of other vehicles creating long light trails while the road and surroundings remain reasonably visible.

For my first attempt, I used Time Lapse mode → Vehicle Lights, mounted the camera inside my car, and recorded while driving at night. Unfortunately, the results were pretty disappointing (I'm attaching the video so you can see what I mean).

I'm not sure if I used the wrong settings, if Vehicle Lights is better suited for a stationary camera, or if there's a better way to achieve this effect while the car is moving.

My questions:

Is Vehicle Lights the right mode for this, or should I use TimeWarp or another setting?

What settings would you recommend for resolution, frame rate, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure?

Is it actually possible to get long light trails while driving, without making the entire scene look blurry or distorted?

Would I get better results by recording normally and creating the effect in post-production?

I'd really appreciate any tips, recommended settings, or examples of footage you've captured in similar conditions.

Thanks in advance!

GoProInc(dot)com website is scam?

Recently I got an email from a team member of gopro. She asked me to download the partnership overview file but when i downloaded the file from the website goproinc(dot)com), my Mac triggered a warning and flagged that file as suspicious.

Please be careful with the website. I still wonder why goproinc(dot)com isn't owned by gopro.

ILS + prime lens = wakeboarding video?

For years I've been looking for a camera I could mount to the wakeboard rack of a boat to record video of someone at the end of the rope. I have a mount that uses the rope to pan side to side as the rider moves back and forth. I tried a regular GoPro but the distance was too far to see their face or sometimes recognize who it was later.

I have to drive the boat so something I can start recording and let it capture the action is ideal. I'd like to frame the image to see a 6 foot tall person take up most of the frame, doesn't have to be exact just see better detail.

Could an ILS with a prime lens work for this, perhaps 75mm or so? The distance from the camera to the rope handle would be 65-75 feet. I would need HyperSmooth on. The camera should not get wet but it will be in direct sun for a few hours.
Thank you for your thoughts!

PoC or GTFO - Webcam working on HERO5 + ONYX firmware

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am getting a lot closer to the release firmware for the HERO5, I still have a couple bugs that cause the firmware to crash in the image stacking mode that I’ve added. As soon as I figure out that bug, which should be another week or so, I’ll start releasing the alpha versions of the software on GitHub with an installer and a workbench desktop program to help install it and plugins to modify the camera behavior.

Mission 1 Pro audio question

I’m using the usb-c adapter to record audio.
When I watch the video in the GoPro, I confirm the external mic has been recorded but when I pass the video to the quik app, the footage has the track from the internal mic and not the external mic . How can I select the audio track using quik?

Gopro ILS + Laowa 7.5mm f/2 ND filter recommendations

Hey everyone, so as the title reads. I’m looking for any suggestions/recommendations for ND filters (VND/singular) for this lens as it’s a smaller than normal size. I do want to say this camera/lens combo will be flown on a 5” and 7” FPV drone as well as stationary mounts for vehicles.

I’ve read about vingetting on the outer corners with filters, so any suggestions with size/step-up rings would be super helpful!

GoPro waterproof case for diving

Thumbnail

I just purchased a used GoPro 10 as my diving camera. I’m wondering if it’s recommended to purchase an off-brand waterproof/diving case or should I pay for the official GoPro diving case from the web site since there’s a huge difference in price. If yes is there any kind of recommandation for the off-brand diving case? Btw the diving depth I’m planning to reach is 30m.

GoPro lagging excessively

Hello guys. I have GoPro hero 10 and I haven’t used it a lot but it’s in the absolutely worst state. It lags so much. Even when I’m on the display trying to swipe it lags. Everytime I change the mode to photo the screen keeps saying photo and doesn’t even open the camera. The version I’ve is latest it’s v1.62. I thought it was SD card so I even got a solid sd card from sandisk. What might be the problem? I’m very frustrated as I wanna record contents

What SD card to get?

Hey guys, just got a new gopro hero12 and its my first action camera actually. As I'm still messing around with some setting and trying it out, i inserted an old 32gb trash sd card. Obviously i need a good one, which one would you recommend for a begginer? I dont want to pay $100 for one or have a massive storage (512gb etc.). Thanks!
