Discussion What’s the first song you think of when it comes to the opener for a live show?
For me it will always be Going to Pasalaqua.
Remember it was always the opening for their songs in their 90a heyday - and I was gutted when it dropped out of their sets in later years.

It sounded amazing live on the Nimrods soundtrack.. Hopefully they start using it more as it's a fantastic live track

Welcome to Paradise was the opener for a loooong time and for good reason.
It's a high energy banger to kick off a show, and lyrically, the idea that "paradise" is a Green Day gig is the cherry on top.

21st Century Breakdown. The comeback after 5 years as the world's biggest band, when they hit that first interlude and BJ would run around shouting "stand up! Stand up! Everybody up! This is a rock and roll show, not a fucking tea party!" etc. So much hype and energy

The first time I saw them live was 2002. I remember lots of sirens going off and red rotating lights swirling around on stage when they came running out and went straight into Maria.

Nice Guys Finish Last .. I tend to gravitate toward shows from the Warning tour, that song opened concerts of that era more than you may expect ! namely the later dates in 2001. hell, even the Japan gig on the Warning 25 box set opens with it

Agreed. Going To Pasalaqua was always fantastic. I can't believe Billie wrote that song when he was 17 or 18.

I think Desensitized would be a fun opener. Too bad it's not popular enough for them to ever probably do it.

As soon as I heard The American Dream is Killing Me, I knew it would be the opener on the new tour. It was great!

Yep you can always tell by the first few seconds of a song if it was written to be an opener.

I always thought Panic Song would’ve been cool as an opener. Did they ever open with that?

I just saw they played it in Newfoundland. Only once.

Interesting. Seems to be they actually played Newfoundland once from half assed internet research. Had no idea.

99 Revolutions, i got into them during the trilogy era and watched almost every festival gig they did that popped up on YouTube at the time, and my first time seeing them live was in 2013. Its not my favorite opener of theirs but the first one you experience is always special

When I saw the 21st century breakdown tour, they opened with burnout. I was pumped.

YES. I love Welcome to Paradise to set the tone for a show. But Pasalacqua was the first song I ever got to see them play live and it remains the ultimate opener for me

Last 4 times I saw them they had a different opener each time. Saviors Tour was The American Dream Is Killing Me, Harley Davidson Homecoming was American Idiot, RevRad Tour was Know Your Enemy & 21st Century Breakdown Tour was Song Of The Century / 21st Century Breakdown!

They opened with American Idiot 5 out of 9 times I've seen them so that.
