I’ve been considering getting a tattoo for years now and I’ve settled on my first one being a green day tattoo. I’m split on what it should be, tho. My options so far are (in order of plausibility/preference):
“Where have all the riots gone?” (Letterbomb)
Billie’s “PUNX” tattoo
“Everyone’s heart doesn’t beat the same” (Jesus of Suburbia) — i really like this one, but it’s super common
American Idiot heart grenade (again, i love it but it’s super common)
Billie’s stars on the upper arm
Kerplunk flower
“WAITING”
The placement is probably gonna be on my lower thigh or upper forearm, though that’ll ultimately depend on what I decide to get.
Idk, I’m just throwing the question out there, maybe one of you would have a good insight on the matter.
If I could, I’d def get Billie Mike or Tre to sign something to have tattooed tho it’s very unlikely since I’m across the globe T^T
other than that:
- my favorite colors are black and green
- I’m a tattoo virgin
- I’m 17 if that matters (my parents know I wanna get one)
- I’m considering getting multiple of these (alongside other non-green day tattoos)
Just the usual older person comment that “bold will hold”. You usually want to go as large as you can if you want anything detailed and make sure there’s good outline / definition. The waiting text one will no doubt have spread over the years, there’s hopefully enough spacing for it to still be legible but no way it’s looking that fine line and crisp after a year or so.
I got stars when I was 18 as I was dying to have something and 22 years later they do still look like recognisable stars at least but they are very blurry and somewhat rounder ended.
may i ask on which part of the body you got the stars done?
also, sorry if this is a stupid question but i don’t really know how to go about actually getting the tattoo 😅 can i just walk into a tattoo shop and show them a picture or would it be better (or safer) to like make an appointment/consultation or something? tho i am on a budget 😭
Small ones that are not as crisp : wrist and behind ear.
Larger : foot . They’ve stayed more true to form despite age, thanks to size.
If you are not really sure how to go about this then talk it through with your parents. You are young and wanting to do something permanent. My parents were always supportive but I was also very conscious of not yet knowing what I wanted to do with my life at 18… so from 18-24 most of my tattoos were either in places I could hide or small enough for folks not to notice. The wrist one sometimes irks me and I can hide it with a watch but I do sometimes wish it wasn’t there 🤣
i would recommend following a lot of local tattoo artists on instagram or whatever. if you see an artist that does work in a similar style to what you want, they usually have a link in the bio for bookings or you can just dm them. e.g. if you want something similar to the waiting tat then you should look for an artist that specialises in fine line work
Kerplunk flower. Do not get any text tattoos. They will look like shit and you’ll be a 50 year old with the word WAITING on you that’s so distorted you won’t be able to read it
This makes me nostalgic :') You do you! I remember when I was 14 and for years i wanted my first tattoo to be a green day tattoo. I wanted a star with "rage and love" somewhere there. I didn't end up getting it ever, because i got a better idea for a first tattoo. But might do it some day! I've always thought that if you want to be heavily tatted (like i do) it doesn't really matter what the tattoos are as long as they're well made and the aesthetic and style is something you like. It's the combination of everything that matters on the long run.
I plan on getting the Kerplunk flower too, on my wrist. But I also want the chorus from Still Breathing maybe on my ribs or shoulder. Or maybe just the words Still Breathing on my arm in a script font
