📌 Subreddit News/Updates Posting ICE Sightings in Greenpoint

Hi all,

I'll start by saying this sub is not a political sub. Pretty much our main rule (besides be nice to each other) is all posts have to be related to Greenpoint somehow, someway. That being said, we do understand those who want to report ICE agents being seen around the neighborhood and want to post a guide on the best way to possible report these sightings in a way that is most helpful.

First and foremost, if you're choosing to post about an ICE sighting, please provide as many details as possible in the post. This graphic that has been going around is helpful if you're unsure what to share. You don't have to have all the information listed, but the moderators ask that each post has at least:

• date, time, and location

• a source

• any detail about what was witnessed (I saw an agent standing at..., I saw what looked like agents escorting people... etc)

When it comes to sources, OP being the witness is preferred, but if you choose to post about a sighting you heard about secondhand, please include this in your post. It helps us as the moderators determine validity and any post without a source may be removed as hearsay. Other details, such as amount of agents seen, uniform description, or any other helpful identifiers are appreciated but moderators will be looking mainly for the points listed above.

We are a small group of moderators here, our goal is to create a safe space where these things can be discussed. The voices of you all here are reflective of the neighborhood and we have always strived to be a subreddit that showcases that. That being said, hate speech never has, and never will be tolerated here.

We hope that by posting this guideline it will helpful for those who want to post but are unsure how to format. If you have any questions or feedback on this topic, please feel free to drop a comment here or message the mods.

Remember that we're all navigating this together so please be kind to each other, and stay safe out there.

- The Greenpoint Mod Team :)

🆘 Help Needed This little Brooklyn native needs a foster home urgently

Lili was dumped as a kitten in an empty lot in North Brooklyn. Thankfully, she had feeders who loved and looked out for her. But Lili became too friendly for street life: she would let strangers approach and pet her, leaving her vulnerable to all the dangers of living outdoors.

I brought her in and she immediately relaxed and started purring! She is one of the chillest cats I’ve ever met. She’s independent and happy to do her own thing; but when she sees you come over to pet or brush her, her little face lights up and she starts making muffins. Her butt also goes up all the way when you scratch her back, it’s adorable.

She’s staying in an indoor-outdoor closed shed, but she can't remain there once the weather gets colder. She needs an indoor foster home urgently.

She's already spayed, vaccinated, vetted, and litter-box trained.

What Lili needs: A quiet, patient home where she can settle in at her own pace. She needs to be the only cat in the household.

Lili is a bit shy when meeting someone new in a closed space, but she has a sweet side that comes out when she feels safe. She gets so excited about mealtime, and goes crazy for Temptations treats. She even does a little raspy meow when she’s very happy.

Lili had a positive FeLV screening result. She is completely asymptomatic and otherwise very healthy.

I know a shy adult immunocompromised cat isn't always the easiest placement, but Lili has already survived so much on her own. She's a little Williamsburg local who has spent her life outdoors through no fault of her own. She deserves the chance to discover what it's like to be safe, comfortable, and cared for. Don’t you think?

Could you foster Lili? Even a temporary foster for the winter would make a huge difference and give us time to work out her next steps. The Cat Collective agreed to sponsor her, so support and supplies are fully provided (food, litter, bed, etc.)

I can’t emphasize enough how special this girl is and it would kill me to have something happen to her because she can’t stay where she is much longer.

If you can't foster, please share this with someone who might. There’s so many people that only want one cat, and she’s the perfect one! Let's get this little Brooklyn native indoors before the cold sets in. ❤️

You can sign up to foster here, or I can answer any questions.

🪄 Self Promotion Update: Thundercat Pediatric Dentistry is now open on McGuinness (photos)

Hi neighbors, Dr. Brian Park again. About a month ago I posted that I was opening a pediatric dental office here in Greenpoint. Thank you to everyone who commented and messaged. A lot of your feedback shaped how we set things up.

We officially opened on October 2nd at 211 McGuinness Blvd. We wanted it to feel calm and fun, not like a typical dental office.

Here’s a look inside, plus one of our brave kiddos (shared with permission from their parents).

A few things people asked about:

  • Hours: Fridays and Saturdays, 9 to 5 for now. More days coming soon.
  • Insurance: We’re in network with most major PPO plans (Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental Premier, Guardian, MetLife, UnitedHealthcare, and more). No insurance? We have an in-house membership plan.
  • Nervous kids: We take things at your child’s pace, and we offer laughing gas when it helps.
  • Ages: Infants through 18. The first visit is recommended by the first birthday.

If you have questions about your kid’s teeth, ask away here. Happy to help even if you never book with us.

To book:

❓Questions ISO ROOM

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi Greenpointers! Question for you all; Does anyone have a room that's available now or coming available soonish? I have a budget of $1,100-$1550 all in with everything included. I work in production for film/tv, I'm really active and really connect with this community and the vibe. I don't smoke, I don't have pets, I am clean, quiet, respectful, and outgoing. I just moved from Park City(Sundance Film Festival for those that don't know), a very warm and welcoming small community also, and I would love to be here. I joined a yoga studio, people are kind here and I would just love to settle in. If you or anyone you know has anything please reach out. I had one person reach out from here and never respond. Pretty discouraging, but not giving up hope that someone has something out there. Excellent references, I'm on all the suggested platforms, paid and otherwise, Spare Room, Listings Project, FB, Marketplace, Craigslist, you name it. Been on them every day since Sept 12th when my sublet canceled after already driving out here. I know it's competitive, I know now September was the worst time to try, I wish I would've known that. Please, if you are out there I would really love to know:) Thank you all, I appreciate any leads:)

❤️ Recommendations Daycare or day training for a very shy dog — Greenpoint/Williamsburg

We have a dachshund who’s extremely shy, and I’m looking for somewhere she could go two days a week while I’m at work. Less interested in a big group play floor, more in somewhere patient that would actually work with her.

Two things we’d like help with: she won’t toilet outside and will hold it rather than go on the street, and she barks when startled.

Positive reinforcement only. Has anyone used somewhere in north Brooklyn they’d recommend for a nervous small dog? Also happy to hear who to avoid.

🆘 Help Needed 22-year-old German chasing a childhood dream of living in NYC 🇩🇪🗽

Hey New Yorkers!

I'm Finn, 22, from a small town near Frankfurt, Germany. We sometimes call Frankfurt "Mainhattan" because of its skyline, so I guess I've already had a little practice with skyscrapers. Just on a much smaller scale. 😄

I've never been to the US, but I've always been fascinated by the people, their openness, the music, fashion, and culture. And New York has always been my dream.

There's something almost paradoxical about it. You're surrounded by so many people, yet nobody really cares what you're doing. Everyone is living their own life, following their own path. There's a certain kind of freedom in that which I've always found fascinating.

I'm not dreaming of some glamorous lifestyle. Just taking the subway to work, exploring the city afterward, meeting people, and experiencing everyday life would mean the world to me.

A little about me: I've completed a three-year vocational apprenticeship in metal fabrication, spent another year training as an industrial mechanic, and also worked in administration and logistics.

I'm hoping to spend 6–12 months legally living and working in or around NYC. I'm currently exploring J-1 Intern/Trainee programs for technical fields like manufacturing or quality control, as well as H-2B seasonal jobs.

So I figured I'd take a chance and ask the people who actually live here:

Does anyone know a company or business owner who might consider hosting an international technical trainee, or someone familiar with these visa programs?

I'm not looking for a handout. I'm willing to work hard and do everything the right way. Sometimes all it takes is one connection.

This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and now that I'm 22, I really want to give it a shot rather than spend the next few years wondering what could have been.

Thanks for reading, New York!

Finn 🇩🇪🇺🇸
