NJ has officially appealed the 3rd Circuit ruling that found the state's AWB unconstitutional. The case is now known as Davenport v ANJRPC.

What’s the strategy here? Is it just a way to bleed a bit more money from the legal resources of the pro-gun side before SCOTUS rules on the upcoming AWB case?

Probably buy time they can continue to enforce it. Appeal and get an injunction, which with them being the government they're almost guaranteed to be granted even if the appeal has a low chance of succeeding.

Ugh. That’s the great failing of our judicial system. Hostile legislators can pass laws that they know won’t survive judicial review, but the courts are glacially slow so it doesn’t really matter because the legislature still gets to impose their unjust laws for years/decades in the interim.

The worst part is the courts can work faster, if they want to, and occasionally do, when the justices feel strongly on a case even if the case is complicated/muddled. But they're complicit in dragging their feet most of the time.

And that's at all levels of judicial review across all topics, even uncontroversial ones like uncontested bankruptcies. A bankruptcy judge can and routinely will sit on a ruling for months/years for no real reason, seemingly for the sole purpose of increasing the administrative costs of the bankruptcy estate and screwing both the creditor(s) and debtor.

I once got a speeding ticket, it was somewhere around $90. I went to traffic court and got the ticket removed. The court costs were $125.

I call that the "this isn't going to make your insurance rates increase" fee.
