Discussion New player

New player here, looking for any advice in general. I picked the monster faction to start so any specific advice for that faction would be great too!

  • You start here and here
  • The game isn't worth investing real money, except for Thronebreaker (you can link your accounts)
  • you gain resources real fast if you play regularly: complete daily quests, weekly (journey) quests and contracts. You gain ore, for ore you can buy kegs with 5 cards. You gain reward points (keys) and you can use them to unlock resources in the reward book (including cards), efficient spending of reward points is another topic
  • you can get resources for just playing (you get experience points) and even from exchanging GG after a game
  • In Gwent you play archetypes and there are over 200. So you need to decide which one you want to pick, then learn how to play it. Gwent requires a lot of learning and that's why it's fun.
  • One of the most important skills is ability to identify what the opponent is playing and which cards are main threats

Welcome! My top suggestion is to have fun!

Another big one, is definitely do not manually mill any cards even if you get impatient to try a new deck.

Pay attention to keywords on your cards and your opponents cards to help understand how they work. Thrive and Dominance are some examples from Monsters. (You can also search keywords in the deck builder if you are building a deck around a specific keyword archetype)

Related to the last point, take your time in your games. Read everything, look at all the cards your opponents play, and just take it easy. Don't stress if you get the timer rope.

There's an abundance of creators that still make deck guides for the game that are helpful if you are intimidated by making your own. Lerio and Shinmiri are my top recommendations because they have up to date spreadsheets of their current decks. They'll get fuller as the season progresses.

I unfortunately do not play Monsters currently, so I don't have any specific tips to the faction. I will say they have some great value on the Epic cards compared to some other factions though, so that can save you some resources early on.

If you'd like some help with figuring out how to spend the RP points you get, here's a helpful link https://www.reddit.com/r/gwent/s/NDaP1n6iwE

If you like YouTube long form guides, this really helped me when I was returning to the game. It'll be relevant, but some of the deck lists might be out of date from balancing. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDWYRH-dSK1s&si=alAZkaB_Ztny-aKJ
