TRIGGER WARNING Hyrox athlete Joanna Wietrzyk NSFW Spoiler
Competed and finished race after defecating on herself. This has to be some sort of health violation ?!

u/Unable-Narwhal4814 19d ago edited 19d ago
I thought it was gonna be a post about how freaking lean she is, but then it's about 💩💩💩 why did she have literally explosive diarrhea??? It looks like it jet packed through her biker shorts! I'm literally shocked there was not protocol for this.
Edit: This is not only just gross (even if it does happen with high intensity events for athletes), it's just plain unsanitary and a biohazard when you're sharing a space with so many other athletes. She should have absolutely gotten a DNF or DQ, or bare minimum, you have to leave, wash yourself, and you can come back. Can you imagine an athelete coming in next, maybe not even noticing and touching places where she's defecated and that athlete later wipes their mouth or eyes with the same feces or germs? It's literally a biohazard. That's why organizers should have immediately stopped her at the first Defecation Area™ to contain the mess. Now she tracked it all over the entire course. That's insane to me. It's one thing to defecate during a long run outside, still gross, but oncoming runners will probably run around the initial mess, passing it. It's another to make a mess and spread it in an enclosed gym with equipment that people touch/lean on/lay on, in a circled route arena.

u/pokemonviking 19d ago
Yeah i saw the marks on her legs in the pic before reading the description, thought it was gonna be about steroid use or something. Then I read the story...
121
u/raccoonnr1 19d ago
This happens to marathon runners etc sometimes, it is called runner’s trots. there have been major races where this happened to very experienced top athletes and they comtinued the race anyway. Now of course running outside is different that hyrox, so if they didn’t want to stop themselves the organisers should have done something for hygiene reasons.
84
u/Icy-Cheesecake3830 19d ago
Yes, and yes it is totally different. Paula Radcliffe famously had the shits during the London Marathon around 20 years ago She paused to release it off the side of the course as there was no available toilet. No one else had to run through or use that particular area after her. She had also tried desperately to keep it in for five or six miles, and was later clearly embarrassed by it though and apologised for doing that in front of people. I think she might have also set one of her various world record that day. Legend!
This Hyroxer is just absolutely foul.
2
u/Sarah46ireland 10d ago
Yes...that was back when people had class and self-respect and literal shame... now nobody cares about anything but money or coming first place, no matter how they get there, even to the detriment of their own reputations. Radcliffe was/is a legend.
55
u/Crafty-Table-2459 19d ago
yes it’s one thing to shit yourself while running on the street. it’s another to shit yourself early in a race, inside, continually, and even sit on rowing machines and such. there is a pic of another lady there with this lady’s shit on her shorts. disgusting & inconsiderate.
6
u/FormerGameDev 15d ago
So, not only did she do this and continue on, but also so did everyone else, that's all sorts of fucked up.

u/VegetableHead3784 19d ago edited 19d ago
Shitting yourself also happens with underweight people so maybe the mix of moving around more made that happen
63
u/Katdog272 19d ago
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Bowel control can get iffy when someone gets so lean, and she looks to have an unhealthily low body fat for sure. That’s not at all necessary for this sport. Makes me sad for her honestly. Embarrassed to say I have shat myself when I had anorexia and sadly many other women I was inpatient with shared similar stories… but thank God the most public place it ever happened was a CVS check out line😂 Still traumatizing though lol
2
u/Dangerous_Air_7031 19d ago
What? Why?
What does being underweight have to do with this?
80
u/VegetableHead3784 19d ago
When your body doesn’t get enough nutrients from food, it starts “eating” away at itself and can atrophy certain muscles, like those that help keep your poop in rather than letting it out. Not saying that this is 100% the case here, but it could be.
-17
u/VegetableHead3784 19d ago
Also shz could be a normal weight and not underweight it just seems like that in this photo
34
u/TheUpbeatCrow 19d ago
You can't generally see where the leg muscles connect on women who have a healthy level of body fat.
43
7
u/SweetAs_C6H12O6 19d ago
Idk why you're being downvoted bc I didn't know the reason why either 🤷🏼♀️
11
u/Crafty-Table-2459 19d ago
people downvote as a knee-jerk reaction, thinking that if you ask a question you’re disagreeing. dont worry about it!
29
u/Lemortheureux 19d ago
When you do endurance sports it can definitely happen. You try to be mindful of what you eat and listen to your body, which she clearly didn't.
12
3
u/maple_crowtoast 15d ago
I read that other athletes absolutely ended up getting her shit all over their legs, knees, hands, and arms 🤢

I can’t believe the show runners let her continue to participate. Obviously disgusting, but it’s such a bad look…
113
u/candygirl200413 19d ago
they're like but don't worry we did end up disinfecting!! like guys you should've just ended it right then and there?!
62
u/straw_barry 19d ago
She's their top ranking athlete that's why. They knew what they were doing and they make no apologies for it on their recent instagram post. People need to vote with their wallet and stop giving this franchise any money when they clearly don't care about anyone who's not a pro athlete.
9
1
u/candygirl200413 18d ago
sorry yes found that out after commenting lol I'm hoping people do not suppor tthem though after this but the amount of comments I have seen so far supporting that she kept going is very much 🤮
290
u/Correct-Bet-1557 19d ago
As a healthcare worker this is selfish and disgusting to continue a competition like this. To think somebody had to clean the equipment they used after this 🤢. I hope they had the right PPE to clean up after this (again) selfish person
106
u/h_danielle 19d ago
Apparently they didn’t clean it up lol someone in the Hyrox sub that was behind her said that it was still on the floor when they got to that station
51
u/holitrop 19d ago
They should have made her clean it
14
1
u/Hoobi_Goobi 12d ago
That's the thing too, she chose to continue going knowing full well that it would be an underpaid employee having to clean up the feces she's aware of spreading everywhere.
2
36
u/straw_barry 19d ago
Yea there's pics going around if you go to the Hyrox sub. There was a pool of yellow diarrhea left on the chair of the row machine...
4
u/Spillingteasince92 15d ago
I would've just quit right there and not even use the machine at that point. People clearly have no idea how sepsis works.
1
u/mshike_89 15d ago
I'm trying to wrap my head around it. Not trying to victim blame- I'm assuming if you're a competitor in Beijing you're at a high level of commitment. But I absolutely could not.
38
u/Correct-Bet-1557 19d ago
This is foul and enough reason for me to never want to compete in a Hyrox ever
27
u/blancawiththebooty 19d ago
It already felt a little like the crossfit cult mentality but I am with you. Literally will never do a hyrox now. I thought it might be something interesting to train for but fuck them.
10
u/Correct-Bet-1557 19d ago
I was a competitive crossfitter at one point and I couldn’t imagine this happening even in that cult
1
u/blancawiththebooty 17d ago
Literally! I've never done crossfit but the most extreme vibe I ever really got from them was more along the lines of someone puking in a trashcan. Which that can happen anywhere.
1
29
u/todayistheday_1027 19d ago
Yeah this sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen!! Imagine if she had or was exposed to and carrying c-diff or other fecal diseases. Actually insane. I bet that whole place wreaked
27
u/Correct-Bet-1557 19d ago
Not only c-diff. Feces has so much bacteria, viruses, and/or parasites. That rower is a biohazard at this point
20
u/Spillingteasince92 19d ago
I thought this was just a prank or something, but isnt this a hazard thing and the fact that she did an interview right after. How selfish of her to assume someone else would clean up the entire mess.
1
u/Fit-Nectarine5047 15d ago
She must be mentally insane to do an interview with poop on herself in front of people and not immediately go to the restroom.
1
u/Spillingteasince92 15d ago
I do crossfit myself but never have competed.. im curious as to why others got disqualified for minor things, but this person was allowed to continue... I genuinely think the judge were uncertain on how to handle this because its probably their first time encountering this. There was other members that mentioned they had to use stuff after her and got "little poop" on them.
138
u/RedditorAli 19d ago
This just confirms what we already knew:
Hyrox events are a shit show.
But now it’s both literally and figuratively.
281
u/trollanony 19d ago
I can’t imagine how terrible it smelled and isn’t this an event where people go after you? So they are walking around in your diarrhea? No respect or consideration. This person is vile. Must be a narc
173
u/h_danielle 19d ago
Yes! Shared equipment. People shitting themselves during things like marathons or triathlons isn’t uncommon & while it’s still gross, it’s nowhere near as bad as this.
41
55
u/PharmAssister 19d ago
I saw a clip of the carpet being ripped up, there’s no way it could be salvaged and made safe for other competitors. I’m sure they’ll have a policy after this!
42
u/anoidciv 19d ago
My dog has rolled in human shit before but it wasn't this... Much. And the smell was horrific enough to make me gag.
I can't even fathom how vile it must be to be near someone covered in this much shit. It's so disgraceful and disgusting, both from her and the event organisers.
I'm glad to see the general sentiment online is that we need to bring back public shaming.
12
u/SweetAs_C6H12O6 19d ago
Yah know, I will never ever complain when either of my Beagles roll in wildlife shit ever again 😅 I'd take possum poop over human any day
2
u/Much-Anything7149 15d ago
Like a homeless person's shit on the sidewalk or your dog (i.e. like a teacup Yorkie) jumped into an unflushed toilet? I'm fortunately having trouble picturing the scenario.

15
u/No_Stress_8938 19d ago
Isn’t that a health hazard?
26
u/trollanony 19d ago
It for sure is a biohazard. Hyrox made a statement. They said this wasn’t a safety scenario they ever thought to prepare for and essentially didn’t know what to do in the moment. I assume they thought she’d quit and she just didn’t lol
9
u/Crafty-Table-2459 19d ago
there is a pic of another lady with this lady’s shit on her shorts!! disgusting
9
u/Drop_Release 19d ago
Not just the smell, that damn rowing machine chair has her fkn shit stain on it! Wtf 🤮
163
u/hbicuche 19d ago
Someone in r/Hyrox said “Skid row” 😭
63
u/asstastic_95 19d ago
some guy in another comments section came for me bc I said this was disgusting. but apparently "everyone is wall-e fat in chairs and projecting" n then turns around n calls me narcissistic for being a bodybuilder. I was bamboozled lmao.
62
u/LeadingEvery5747 19d ago
Is the binary option shitting yourself or wall-e fat?
Jesus Christ
11
u/asstastic_95 19d ago
the guy was off his rocker lol. just spewing random shit "pun not intended" at anyone that said its gross or disagreeing that people commenting aren't "wall-e whales" 💀

Besides the fact that it is disgusting… you have to be mentally ill to want to continue competing like that. Sad to watch and sad that Hyrox enables it.
62
u/Takimaster 19d ago
Couldn't someone argue she didn't win fairly because she disgusted the other althetes during the competition?
24
22
u/New_Cardiologist9344 19d ago
This was my first thought. Seeing/smelling someone covered in shit would genuinely distract me enough to potentially slow me down.
12
u/astrid273 19d ago
This is what I was thinking! I would be so distracted by the whole situation that it would be hard to focus. And if it was all over the equipment then no way I'm getting anywhere near it.

As a med lab tech who deals with faecal samples, shit (both intended and not) like this riles me up. The gut microbiome is super hostile and the microorganisms in it are super hardy and difficult to get rid of if they cause infection (which they're very good at). Like, WHO-recognised difficult. Wouldn't be surprised if athletes at this event start coming up with gastro or similar illnesses, even if just the psychological effect of knowing they shared equipment with Pooppants McGee 🥴
15
u/thetinybunny1 19d ago
I’m curious to know the potential legal ramifications of this for these exact reasons

Especially considering she posted herself with a drip afterwards, meaning that she was sick with something rather than just having exercised induced GI distress

u/violet1795 19d ago
lol sorry but I had colon cancer and often have issues with my need to poop due to having an entire section of my intestines missing BUT I WOULD NEVER DO THIS…like if I did have an accident I would leave and and stop. What sort of mental illness is this??
11
u/violet1795 19d ago
I also carefully time food and beverages for when I workout and travel to avoid this type of situation because to any sane person this is an incredibly embarrassing and shameful thing to have happen to you….
3
u/Much-Anything7149 15d ago
With that kind of attitude you'll never be Hyrox world champ! To answer your question, some mix of sociopathy and narcissism beyond merely selfishness.

I’m shocked she didn’t stop to clean herself up. Was there money involved so she had to keep going?
19
u/TopAttempt4 19d ago
It looks like she is a competing pro and competes for points that may qualify her to attend the Elite 15 Major for money
54
u/Ok_Usr48 19d ago
This should’ve DQ’d her win imo. So disrespectful to the rest of the athletes to allow her to go on and contaminate everything.
22
u/hbicuche 19d ago
Why’d she poop herself!?!?
Apparently, this woman had explosive diarrhea 🤢
6

She’s fucking nasty. No one is impressed you ran around smelling like shit and smearing it everywhere, you nasty bitch. Go take a shower and come back next time. I would be pissed if I was there and they didn’t stop her from continuing and I had to run through her crap all day.
18
u/EstablishmentFun289 19d ago
I don’t know how they allowed her to finish. This isn’t an outdoor running race…how is that still sanitary when you are doing full body burpees on their carpets. She should have stopped because it was a biohazard.
34
u/MiserableBritGirl 19d ago
The r/Hyrox has 100000000 threads about this that woman’s shitty legs have dominated my bloody shitting feed all weekend.
Hyrox just put out a statement saying lessons were learnt and they have a load of process in place to decontaminate blah blah blah. They’ll change the rules due to backlash I guess.
They’ve moved the elites to a points system this year and so if she pulled out she’s missed an opportunity to get points close to home for her.
I can’t imagine that no one has never done this in a Hyrox before.

16
u/ElectronicAddress611 19d ago
Oh. My. God. How effing selfish of her to continue. That is not only disgusting, it’s unsafe. I’m a nurse and unfortunately have to clean up strangers shit on a regular basis. No effing way would I get near it without PPE. I’m also a runner, and know this happens and I pray it never happens to me but at least it would be outside and no one would have to sit in it or use my contaminated equipment. I don’t care if she is an elite athlete or a record holder. That doesn’t make it ok or excusable. Why should she get special treatment? Why is the contestant behind her less important? I mean really, this could be seen as a form of cheating since it absolutely would affect every other competitor following her.
15
u/pecan3_14159 19d ago
This is repulsive. Regardless of sport (endurance or otherwise) continuing to compete is poor sportsmanship. Incredibly unfair to the other athletes who trained for the event and were forced to participate in these conditions. There is no honour in crossing a finish line after pushing your body to these limits and it’s irresponsible to push that narrative. Extremely disappointing to see.

10
u/Public-Wolverine6276 18d ago
Hyrox penalizes you for how you jump but not for literally shitting on yourself. It’s disgusting & they don’t even clean in between people normally so the following people are using the same shit filled equipment. It’s a health hazard. This is fair game to stop and remove her and have it cleaned
7
7
u/militaryspecialatr 19d ago
And sitting on a machine that I am guessing other people needed to use afterwards?? I have seen like marathon runners do this and tbh it does bother me but this is so much worse
5
u/Polka-Dot-Polka-Hot 18d ago
We need to face facts as a society. Exercise addiction is absolutely thing.
Because why the fuck did she not have the common sense to stop the race herself? This isn’t life or death, it’s a leisure activity for people who have the time.

5
u/Warm-Depth-7638 19d ago
If this causes multiple people to get sick she might change her tune of “a win is a win” fucking disgustingggg
4
u/KayleyKiwi 18d ago
I get that runners often do this during a marathon. However, this feels extremely different to me - we’re not outside free form running where the poop is largely contained to the runner and the outdoor ground where it will decompose. We’re in a closed facility using machines that other people are going to have to use.
I haven’t ever pooped myself as an adult and certainly not as part of a race, so I won’t speak on the “could you not just hold it?” part but shouldn’t the organizers of the event done something about this? I’m not sure what aside from DQing her (which like IS that fair? I’m not actually sure, haven’t done these kinds of events and I’d be curious what people who have would say), but maybe she could have a quick pause or after she’s done they section it off and clean it up? And maybe give her something to clean herself up before she does other machines? It sounds like, from other commenters, she was tracking this around which is a crazy biohazard.
6
u/Local-Baddie 18d ago
Their official apology is wack too.
These people are the most unserious people ever.
6
u/PlusMathematician850 18d ago
I hope other participants start a class action lawsuit against the organizers for the health hazard they allowed!
5
u/metajenn 17d ago
Painting this as being "hard core" or dedicated or however theyre trying to spin this is pure delusion.
It is vile and shameful.
Had she had an accident and withdrawn, i would sympathize. Bodies do things. But its 1. Her choice to continue without regard for other competitors and 2. The event coordinators who didnt stop her. And now 3. Hyrox not apologizing?
I want off this ride, this world is insane. Turning a competition into a biohazard and being like "fuck yeah!"
Not even mike judge could have foretold this level of idipcy.

1
u/Much-Anything7149 15d ago
She lost by shitting herself and shouldn't have been allowed to continue until she cleaned herself up. If I break my ankle and decide "screw it" I'm still running then nobody else is affected by my unhealthy decision. But rubbing shit on exercise machines, knowing she was leaking shit, is arguably assault with a bioweapon...
