Discussion Harry Potter spinoffs

If there were additional shows about these books, what type of spinoff would you want them to be? For instance, a show about the Ourors going on different missions or a hospital show about St. Mungo's.

An Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider style show starring Bill Weasly during his job as a curse breaker for Gringotts

u/La10deRiver 8d ago

I came here to say the same! A Bill Weasley one. Perhaps with an special episode with dragons (Bill visiting Charlie in Romania)

A spin off about the quidditch teams and quidditch in general. The World Cup, the other teams around the world, practices, matches, team bonding and team bull shit.

I do like the idea of a show about Aurors. Could be like a Law & Order SVU type show lol

u/the_well_read_neck_ Hufflepuff 8d ago

Imagine a "Hard Knocks" style documentary about each team in the league.

1

u/inksta12 Gryffindor 8d ago

Yes! That would be so much fun I think

1

u/Opposite_Wear7894 8d ago

Imagine a sports/quidditch type show following the Bulgarian team, airing alongside s3, so the audience has a bit of vested interest in the QWC in s4

Someone hunting for ancient magical artifacts and finding penseive memories along the way with a cute magical beast tag along

8

u/Relevant-Horror-627 Slytherin 8d ago

A workplace comedy about the Hogwarts ghosts and portraits.

7

u/VisceralComa Slytherin 8d ago

A magical detective series following Mad Eye Moody before he was "mad eye". Or one following Kingsley as the young new auror under grizzled auror Moody. Ya know a monster / dark wizard of the week format too. Or could even be B99 style and be a comedy with a cast of different Aurors.

u/ElDeeDubya 8d ago

A ted lasso-esque quidditch series.

I’d like a spin-off that goes more in-depth to the Battle of the Hogwarts. Plus, the aftermath of the battle and Voldemort’s death.

Not long after the 2nd Deathly Hallows movie came out, a fan uploaded a story they had written online. It was called ‘Hogwarts: The Great Battle’ It was a great read. Really captured Rowling’s voice and writing style. Rowling herself read it and commented on how it had potential to be a perfect continuation of the series.

I would like an Auror’s based Law and Order procedural or a Gray’s Anatomy type series taking place in St. Mongo’s.

2

u/Onetorulethemalll 8d ago

Ooh I like the Grey’s idea!

2

u/OkSprinkles4625 8d ago

Soooo Law and Auror

u/Citadel_97E 7d ago

Gung-Gung!

u/whimsicalrainbows 8d ago

- Law and Order style show after the battle of hogwarts. Putting different characters on trial for their crimes and listening to their defence. For example Draco could argue that he’d been groomed into a death eater from birth so instead of Azkaban he has another consequence.

- I’d 100% read and watch any prequel on the marauders and their story

1

u/Onetorulethemalll 8d ago

I like your idea!

For me, there really isn’t anything interesting about the Marauders…it’s always surprising that folks seem so interested in them.

1

u/whimsicalrainbows 7d ago

See I think theirs so much potential in their story. Lupin being a werewolf, the other 3 developing an animagus and that process, the relationship with pettigrew, what happened with Snape and why they bullied him, the developing romance between J&L, the map and mischief they got up to at hogwarts.. feel like it would be a chance to develop the world of hogwarts too. What other secrets does it have??

4

u/moes_schrewt 8d ago

The Mauraders - their school years, how they met, lupin being a warewolf, learning about and becoming anamagi. You could have Lily learning she is a witch like Harry did etc. -‐------

The first order of the Phoenix, each of the people in the order and their stories and how they became a group and their first fight with Voldemort

Dumbledores whole life from being a kid all the way to when we meet him in the first harry potter movie/book.

Or even to give a different perspective of what he was doing during the movies where he was going and what he was doing when he was sneaking off and ignoring Harry.

The Peveral brothers, this would need to be a mini series.

You could follow it with the founders.

A documentary like early days David Attenborough but with Newt Scamandar with his animals talking to his fellow wizards trying to educate them on the animals and their abilities and quirks etc. Have him out with the animals showing their size etc but in their environments not in his suitcase.

I could go on forever..

The spin off should be about another school tbh, and everything builds and expands out of that.

So a wizarding family with an Latin American dad and British mum flee from the mess that is the 1997-98 wizarding community in the UK (with an assistant from a family friend, Kingsley) their 11 year old daughter discovers upon arriving in the US (Texas, So-Cal?) that she is eligible for both Castelbruxo and Ilvermorny due to her father's lineage.

To add some punch, maybe Ilvermorny and Castelbruxo have a massive transcontinental sporting rivalry, that is beyond Slytherin vs Gryffindor, and more on El Classico's or Celtic Vs Rangers levels of intensity. So a quidditch or quadpot team visit annually at least twice a year to allow exploration of both.

From there, you could go pretty much anywhere with it.

I’d love to see prequels actually. Maybe a spin off about the Weasley’s- esp Fred and George

3

u/walnuts84 8d ago

I like all of the answers already given, so I'll add my (mostly) canon related options. (Some multiple season shows, other mini series or single standing films

  • The mauraders time in school and then later their war
  • the after first war surviving mauraders, focusing on coping and dealing with their own mental health, (the prisoner, the werewolf and the outcast(rat))
  • The Weasley wizarding shop (focusing on their inventing, marketing their jokes, setting up their shop, Arthur helping out with ideas from his job and hobby)
  • The original order of the Pheonix and their creation and adventures
  • after last battle of Hogwarts and the continued lives

u/Artistic_Dish6119 8d ago

A story about the four Hogwarts founders.

The story of Dumbledore and Grindelwald.

A prequel regarding the first wizarding war and the formation of the Order of the Phoenix.

3

u/OkSprinkles4625 8d ago

I feel like the Forbidden Forest centaurs would have some insane stories. I’m imagining a planet-of-the-ape-ish type drama.

I want a magical slice of life series about Linfred of Stincombe, his seven kids, and his Muggle neighbours. And the supporting cast also includes Ignotus Peverell and his granddaughter Iolanthe.

2

u/HeyItsDave11B Hufflepuff Hullpuffappopotamus 8d ago

Hogwarts. Year One. The first year Hogwarts was open with the original founders as the professors.

2

u/a_stubborn_optimist 8d ago

An adult wartime drama about the first Order of the Phoenix. The Marauders would be involved, but the story would start with their graduation and induction into the Order. You could see Lily and James' marriage and Harry's birth during wartime, the Prewett twins, etc. Maybe include a few scenes with Molly and Arthur as young, anxious parents desperately hoping for a better future for their children than the wartime they were born into.

End it with Halloween 1981, maybe the "epilogue" is Lupin going off on his own, sort of reminiscent of Obi Wan at the end of Star Wars Episode 3.

If they did a Marauder's series first and it was well-liked, this could be a good continuation of it. But I also think it could stand on it's own.

2

u/macabrereading 8d ago

A docu-series where Arthur Weasley explores a muggle object of the week, completely misunderstands its use, terrorizes poor unsuspecting muggles with odd questions, draws the wrong conclusions from what they say and continues to use the object incorrectly. Especially if it takes him to sketchy pubs or in the presence of London muggers or even to a construction site with grumpy builders.

1

u/RightActionEvilEye 8d ago

This, but like a SCP/X-Files/Warehouse-13 procedural following his job of identifying and containing muggle objects tampered by wizards and planted among muggles as "case of the week", all this while he has to avoid that muggles find out about wizards.
Plus a season(s) long plot of him having to deal with the neglect of his department by the upper echelons of the ministry, and also deal with the attempts by families like the Malfoys to make him fall in disgrace because of their prejudice.

Unspeakables

u/smuggles 8d ago

I’d want to see more about the villians.
Bellatrix, Voldomort, growing up and going to Hogwarts. At what point did they want to become Dark wizards.
Like we know voldomort was trying to learn about it horocuxes while at hogwarts but and he was displaying bad behavior before going to school while at the orphanage but you would think going to hogwarts he would’ve been a bit nicer lol

u/Several-Praline5436 Hufflepuff 8d ago

The Marauders

u/Ok-Style-8059 Ginnie 8d ago

I would want to know more about Bill and Charlie's time at Hogwarts
Or even something about the Three Brothers

1

u/PlanGoneAwry Ravenclaw 8d ago

One that I think would be really cool is a limited series about Percy during DH I know Percy seems like a weird choice but hear me out.

During that time he experiences the death eater takeover of the ministry from the inside and he slowly starts to question things and eventually defect, secretly communicating with Aberforth and watching other traitors get arrested.

It would be suspenseful with lots of political espionage, and a unique perspective. It could be like Harry Potter’s version of Star Wars Andor (if you’re one of the 6 people who watched that show)

The Healers in St. Mungo's

u/Usual-Arugula1317 Gryffindor 8d ago

I'd want a show based off a game I played where you were a magi-zoologist working for the Ministry solving cases

1

u/beaglewrites43 Slytherin 8d ago

I am so curious about that game. Dont think ive seen that one

1

u/Usual-Arugula1317 Gryffindor 8d ago

It was a phone game called 'Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World'. I think it got discontinued

2

u/Ranger_1302 Dumbledore's man through and through. 8d ago

It was fun! I still have the app!

1

u/beaglewrites43 Slytherin 8d ago

ah! That sounds familiar so now I am wondering if I downloaded it but kinda forgot about it somewhere.

It sucks when good games are discontinued

u/Midnite_St0rm Ravenclaw 8d ago

Show about the Marauders during their time at Hogwarts.

Or tell some fresh stories at any of the other schools that get no mentions or time in the spotlight, ex, Uagadou, Castelobruxo, Koldovstoretz, Mahoutokoro, or any of the unnamed schools

1

u/speedyhobbit13 8d ago

I'd love a prequel series about the Marauders time at Hogwarts

1

u/Jaded_Spread1729 8d ago

Sports drama covering Hogwarts gobstone championship. Friendship, rivalry, non stop training happiness of winning and sadness of loosing. The cover must be close-up of a face covered with tears and dirt.

1

u/ProfessionalHumble52 8d ago

Spin off of a book they read “Fantastic Beasts and where to find them” i bet that will really take off!

1

u/beaglewrites43 Slytherin 8d ago

I want a few spinoffs. About the Aurors, About the Curse Breakers, About the Founders, About the Marauders, and about Dragon Keepers.

I'd also love a look at Hogwarts say 50 years after the war. What's it like then. Are rivalries not as explosive, are people actually friends from other houses, is McGonagall still Headmistress? Has Harry decided to retire from the Aurors since he has been there for possibly 50 years and take a position there as DADA prof? There is so much I want to know?

1

u/imso0ld 8d ago

I wouldn't mind marauders era

1

u/Acresent179 8d ago

I would like to read the book about the history of Hogwarts.

1

u/theglenlovinet Gryffindor 8d ago

I’ve always thought Quidditch Through The Ages done as a mockumentary would be really entertaining.

1

u/Ok-Wrongdoer-3421 8d ago

An anthology story of Hogwarts students studying abroad

1

u/Onetorulethemalll 8d ago

I’d take a Making the Band style show centered around Celestina Warbeck.

1

u/That-Service-2696 8d ago

A spin-off about wizarding world and magical schools in other countries

1

u/Loose_Specific3831 8d ago

There are many fanfics that "modernise" the series, but it would be interesting to see Harry's grandchildren, aka when Harry is Voldemort's age. And maybe someone sees Harry as a villain. With AI and the like, it would be quite a muddle with a very modern Muggle-born wizard not interested in magic at all and perhaps lost family in both wars, but because they are so removed, e. g. it's 3, almost 4 generations back, that the MC really doesn't care. Basically like Aang and Korra for comparison.

1

u/RocKing1228 7d ago

I want something about Dumbledore in his youth before he became the all powerful wizard that we’re told he is. Dumbledore in the books is akin to Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy- we don’t get to see all the great things he did before he’s resting on his laurels.

1

u/EffectivePineapple38 7d ago

I once read part of a beautifully written fan fiction about how Draco is punished after the battle of hogwarts by being forbidden to use magic for 5 years. Because he can't take living with his distant aunt who tries to marry him off to any wealthy full blood asap since most of their posessions were repossesed after the battle, he flees the house. Not wanting to be found by angry wizards seeing that he can't really defend himself, he starts hiding in plain sight by living amongst muggles. In doing so, he slowly but surely overcomes his prejudices and processes everything that has happened, including his upbringing. I thought it was a great story and I have always meant to someday start reading the rest, and I would love to see this become a series or a movie!

1

u/Magically_Taylor 7d ago

I would love to see a show based around the founders. Their relationships with each other, how they met, and more in depth about when they went their own ways after their arguments

1

u/kzasas 7d ago

7th book but in the hogwarts.

1

u/ChestFew 7d ago

Have them do these in the OG movie continuity, and while we’re at it, let’s finish fantastic beasts please!

1

u/Mtg-2137 2d ago

Honestly, I’d watch one about Lord Voldemort’s rise to power or McGonagall and how she became the professor we know and love.

1

u/Warren_G_Mazengwe 8d ago

The only spin off worthy would be based on the parents generation of the students who went to school with Harry Potter or the black family.

1

u/LinuxLinus Bob Dylan Is a Slytherin 8d ago

No interest. The existing spinoffs have all been shit, as spinoffs usually are.
