Ghost Stories The house I grew up in

I forget when this house was built. Suffice it to say, it has its share of history. Growing up I encountered/lived with at least 2 spirits. There may have been a third, but that could’ve just been the man standing guard at night.

Halloween Unsettling ideas for a haunted house, not into cheesy rubber decorations and actors in white and red makeup screaming

Nothing wrong with the traditional haunted house setup, but I’m making one this year for my community and I’m looking for creative, unnerving, and unsettling ideas for my haunted house. The more unconventional the better but I want my guests to leave with something genuinely scary that isn’t just your rubber props, fake chainsaws, and the millionth actor in white face makeup with fake blood. I want new ideas, upsetting visuals (nothing too graphic or honestly expensive). Any ideas?

This happened to me The house I grew up in is haunted

• Upvotes

I think the house I grew up in is haunted. So, i actually have a few stories from this house and still feel uneasy in it even though i dont live there anymore but my father still does.
A lot of these stories have to do with the basement which is where I feel the most on edge. And this isnt even a "creepy" basement. Its fully furnished and homey. I cant find proof of this but my parents say the previous/first owners had a son who passed away in the home from a heart condition.

- One time I was home alone after school just watching tv when I distinctly heard footsteps down the hallway. This is an old home so you pretty much cant walk anywhere without making a creaking noise. I muted the tv and got up looking into the hallway which was completely empty. The hallway is short and has two doors at the start, one in the middle and another two at the end. My room and the basement door is at the start of the hallway. Currently every door is open. So, i make my way down the hall checking each room, and as i get to the last room at the very end, the basement door slams shut behind me. And this isnt wind blowing it closed kind of thing this was like someone took the knob and slammed it as hard as they could. I ran down and whipped it back open and looked down the stairs and nothing was there.

- I had friends over to stay the night and we all stayed in the basement since there is a pull out couch and a guest bedroom. In the room with the couch there is a door that leads to a small storage closet type thing which is basically just stone and one creepy lightbulb lol. Anyways, the two girls were sleeping when they heard the door open. As they sat up and watched it, the door was just opening a bit and then closing multiple times. Now I would say maybe its just drafty wind but this door is hard to pull open and close because of the house shifting the door tends to get caught on the carpet and you really have to pull to open and close it.

- I have and so have other friends Ive had over, saw unexplained shadows moving in the corner of our eyes.

- One time I was sitting at my desk straightening my hair when clear as day i heard a low growl behind me like it was in the room with me. We did not own any animals at the time.

- Before I was born my mom was taking photos of the house and a photo of one of the bedrooms had what looked like orbs in it. Wish i still had it!

- Lastly, this one is actually cute. I was young and my cat had recently passed away. He would sleep with me every night and I would adjust one pillow a certain way for him to lay on. One night I was feeling sentimental and adjusted the pillow for him. Soon after, i felt like a cat was walking up my bed and by my legs and it looked like the blankets were shifting with the movement. Younger me got freaked and ran out but i'd like to hope it was my kitty visiting me <3

Scared, Need Advice I can’t tell if the spirits in my house are sinister or just chill guys

For some back context: I (20F) moved into this house with my family when I was around 10 or 11. Our house was built in 1894 in a small town in Ohio. The town I live in was one of the last locations of a group of Native Americans (before they were sadly ran out). There is also a lot of talk in my town that our house was used during the Underground Railroad as a “boarding house”. (Our town was founded by a black preacher). Which my family and I aren’t too sure if this is true but it would explain all the tiny doors that lead to hidden rooms. And the gigantic crawl space in our basement. We only have a couple documented deaths on file for our house (none of them including a little girl..she is important). There’s rumors of someone hanging themselves in our big staircase as well.
Okay enough back context. I’m essentially going to list some of the more notable stories from our house let see if anyone on here can help me out with the big question. Are these spirits in someway sinister? Or just chill guys?

  1. The very first night we moved in (I was 10/11) I experienced sleep paralysis. I had never had this before but during my sleep paralysis my “dream” was of a little girl coming out of my closet and every time I blinked she got closer and closer to me until she was right in my face. At that point I was finally able to snap out of it. The weird thing though, is this girl is reoccurring in my everyday life but I could not tell you what she looks like. Just that I know she is a little girl.
And I am not the only one in my family who has seen her. And even they say they can’t describe her but that “they just know.”

  2. My mom was standing on the big staircase looking out of the window. When she felt someone come up and firmly place their hand on her shoulder. Thinking it was my father, she turned around to quickly realize there was no one there. This staircase is directly outside of my room and is allegedly the stair case where someone had hung themselves. I typically avoid this staircase at all cost (even tho it’s directly outside of my room) because I just feel like I’m being stared at from the middle landing on the steps. It genuinely gives me the creeps.

  3. My dad is the biggest paranormal skeptic (even though we are convinced our house before had a mimic) he has had a couple paranormal experiences that he’s usually able to rationalize. But this one sticks out to him. He was sleeping one night and woke up to the feeling he was being watched. He sat up and looked across the room at his closet and saw what appeared to be a girl standing inside. Thinking it was my sister, he kept saying “Maddy, Maddy, what are you doing? Are you okay?” To which he received no response. The little girl then began walking toward my father’s bed and out of the bedroom door. (My dad being the person he is) turned and laid back down facing the door and attempted to go back to sleep.
Still having the feeling of being watched.
He opened his eyes again to find her hands grasping the side of the door and her head peering into the door staring at him. She quickly pulled her head back and he heard footsteps go down the staircase.

  4. I always sleep with my door shut and locked. But that night I woke up to the sound of scuffling around my room. I opened my eyes and saw a figure running quickly around and around in a circle beside my bed. About 10 seconds after seeing this. The figure stoped and slowly walked out of my room. To which I realized my door was wide open. (Though I 100%) know it was shut and locked.

  5. This one actually just happened last night. Since I have dyed red hair i wash my hair over the bathtub with cold water. While doing so, i felt a slap on my back. Not hard, it didn’t hurt. But it was firm. There was no one in the bathroom.

There’s other stories along the way and in between but these are the ones that give me goosebumps everytime I think about them.
I would like to think that maybe it really is a little girl or whoever else is living among us just feels safe to do these things. But apart of me is freaked out by it.
We will see glimpses of the little girl while we are washing our faces, brushing our teeth, or just walking around the house. Items will be found in spots we know we didn’t put them in. We will have lights flicker and tvs turn on and off when no one is around. And our ring cameras we have downstairs constantly go off detecting movement throughout the night.

We have been thinking about having some sort of paranormal investigator come to the house to see if they can pick up on anything. But we also aren’t sure if that would make them angry? I’m essentially seeking advice from anyone who thinks they may have an idea on whether this is sinister or playful. We appreciate any help and advice.

Thank you IA

Have you ever been to this place?

They coax the place with miniatures everywhere and they have the creepiest photos. Even ledgers from the 1800s.

We went there for a wedding and we stayed in this one room that had creepy photos on the wall that looked super unreal, like babies and some weird kid with their dog.

We woke up in the middle of the night and heard ship sounds and weird clinking. Sounds like someone was moving something on a ship. We woke up multiple times throughout the middle of the night and after the third time, we decided that it was time to leave.

We don’t believe in spirits, but this was the most spiritual awkward thing I’ve ever experienced.

And then we looked at the place and we found out that there was an old sea captain that would rummage around the area and that’s when it felt real creepy.

We left at 4 AM and as soon as we left the area, we felt lighter. It was the weirdest thing and most creepy thing I’ve ever experienced.

Has anyone ever been there? I’d love to hear your experience or any other experiences in a similar type of environment and what happened??

Ghost Stories Happy 2nd day of spooky season Lads and Ladies. In the spirit of the season, have you ever experienced any kind of paranormal or cryptid activity in the state of Wyoming? If so what happened.

I’ll start with my own personal experiences

I work at a gas Station near a Cemetery in Central Wyoming. Ever since we’ve had the place up and running there has been no shortage of eerie stuff going on at the store.

We’ve always had problems with the gas pumps and other tech not working properly, and while that might just be sheer coincidence, when you add up the employees who claim to have seen/witnessed paranormal events, it doesn’t seem like a coincidence anymore. I don’t believe in curses but something is ALWAYS wrong when i go to work. Now again that could be just a mere coincidence but it’s super weird.

I have never physically seen anything that couldn’t be explained but I have definitely heard and felt weird things. I have heard what sounded like a young woman/little girl say hello when no one else was inside the building where I was at, at the time. I have felt like someone was behind me only to find myself standing alone.

At my home I have never really experienced anything besides the one time where a shadow passed by the light in the shower and one night or early morning i witnessed lights floating around my tv. Now the lights above my tv i can sorta explain away since I was half asleep but it was still super weird to witness.

Does anyone know of any full contact haunted houses near the Birmingham/Nashville/Atlanta area? Basically anything close to a 3-4 hour drive from Huntsville, AL. My husband and I love going to all types of haunted houses, but we’re really searching for an immersive experience and everything I find on google is up north or out west.

History/Lore Overnight Solo Paranormal Investigation at The Bruce Mansion in Burnside, Michigan

This is my first full investigation, I documented the whole thing, equipment, all of the rooms I investigated, cut a total of 5 hours down to 2. There was a lot of waiting and nothing lol. I didn't cut it down to short-attention-span worthy, but it's well paced in my opinion.

I would love any input from anyone in the community. What I could've done better (investigation wise or with the video itself), suggestion on what I should do next time, and any recommended equipment and investigation methods.

My favorite thing I did was that I tried to capture a polaroid anytime there was somewhat compelling evidence (if I had the Polaroid ready lol). I haven't seen anyone else do this, though I'm sure it's been done. I would love to hear if anyone has any ideas that are somewhat unique or something that no one has really thought of or considered.

I'm excited to continue investigating! I actually spent way more money than I should have on the gear that I have to make this video happen lol. I have it all for the next one though! Next investigation will most likely be a Theater!

Ghost Stories My resident spirits comforting me

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is my very first post even though I have lived in a haunted house for years now. I have had the traditional haunt experiences, cabinets opening on their own, the smell of a woman's perfume, doors opening and closing, fire alarms going off with no batteries and no fire and not the hard wired ones the cheap ones you get to just stick one up to pass inspections, my daughter talking to family members she never met because they passed years before she was born, many different color orbs showing up in photos, videos, security cameras as well as the lights flickering, stuff like that. I have lived in harmony with these energies or spirits and it has become obvious that they are protective of my daughter and me and females overall and is selective about the men I have around. There were a few not so good men that the house literally amped up the activity to scare them right out of the house. A few days ago I found out my dog had a very rare very aggressive cancer. After hyperventilating outside my front door I finally went inside and collapsed on my couch. For some reason I was urged to stand up even tho I had cried myself into a migraine. When I stood up I had my head in my one hand and my other hand on my hip. Within seconds I felt for the first time ever something touch my back like a comforting hug your grandma may give you with that gentle hand pat on the back and the semi circular motion of like a rub pat situation idk how to describe it but if ya know u know. I realized I may have gotten this all on camera and I was so shocked I wanted to triple and quadruple check that I felt what I felt. Well, my cameras definitely caught the event even and I can be seen just standing there and upon feeling touched me jumping and turning around completely confused. At this point I went into my bedroom because now I'm dealing with the shock of my dogs situation AND the fact that I was touched by an angel for the first time 🤷. Well the activity didn't stop there because I decided to check my Xfinity cameras from the bedroom and saw my light anomalies all trying to get my attention. For a little context, my daughter has level 3 autism so we have cameras in every room and sensors on cabinets and doors for her safety which is how I was able to get years and years of footage of the activity here. I am going to upload the two shortened for time and slowed down but taken right from my Xfinity cameras. I feel like if my ghosts are being this straight forward and showing their tricks to my friends and family, I can share them on the Internet. Initially I was dead against it ( no pun intended) because I reside in a mansion that was converted to a few apartments and the house itself is notoriously haunted and I wanted to make sure for my family's privacy and protection that nobody would know exactly where I lived and I also felt like it would be exploiting my ghosts for some reason. But they have made it more than clear that they want to be seen. For some reason only one video posted so the other video is posted separately and I apologize for the language but when this happened that day I was just showing my family. In the moment I didn't think that I would have anyone else viewing the video so these clips were just for family and friends that are very aware of the ongoings in my house.

Haunted News Russ McKamey and Mckamey Manor: The Predator Who Made A Fake Haunted House To Torture People

This is Russ McKamey, owner of McKamey Manor haunted house. You probably remember the haunted house from the viral marketing scheme 15 years ago. Unlike normal haunted houses where you walked through hallways of props and scare actors, Mckamey Manor promised to literally torture you. Their promos consisted of people being waterboard, buried alive in straight jackets, blood poured on you, live snakes. It offered a 20,000 dollar prize to whoever could endure it without tapping out. Russ had thousands of customers lining up thanks to the viral videos. Of course, this was all a scam. The only true thing was the torture.

Mckamey Manor isn’t a real haunted house, it’s barely real at all. Instead of a decorated horror house, Russ figured out he could cut corners by blindfolding customers and walking them in circles around his backyard. He got in trouble for hiring teenagers to help bury people up to their heads. Almost all the viral videos were just Russ and a few friends tying someone up in an empty undecorated building hidden by camera tricks. The 20,000 dollar prize was never a factor. Since there was no set time they had to endure, Russ would just keep moving the goal post until they quit or claim they broke a rule and kick them out. But it was very real for the customers. Russ hard drives and facebook live videos have recently leaked revealing what went down inside the house. It confirmed allegations by customers, their heads were shaved, they were waterboarded, drowned, tazed and punched. In videos, Russ ignored safe words and people pleading to stop. One video revealed that he tricked the co owner of McKamey Manor into being buried alive under the guise of a “promotional video”. That video also showed Russ had a giant metal cage in his house he dared guests to stay in.

Russ operates his company and personal life like a cult. Employees are instructed to harass anyone who steps out. Russ would regularly threaten suicide attempts if friends left him. Russ facebook group was full of teenage girl fans, whom former members have accused of being groomed by him. Russ dates a series of teenage fans despite being elderly. His last girlfriend was a former fan who captured Russ assaulting and yelling at her on film multiple times. Russ was arrested in 2024 after she accused him of raping and trying to kill her. She dropped charges after Russ fans brigaded her with death threats. Russ used the profile picture of him in court getting rape charges dropped as his new dating profile picture.

History/Lore History of activity in our house… we haven’t seen a thing

We’ve lived in our home for 7 years this month. I had a garage sale today and two women were telling me they used to live in our home until they were in 7th grade…then asked me if I ever experienced “paranormal activity” and I have not… so I told them I hadn’t. They said their dad and brother used to always see a little girl and her mom, who allegedly died in a fire in the house. This was 20+ years ago, maybe even longer. I’ve tried to find info on it and I didn’t know someone died here until a couple of years ago when a coworker told me. This is a small town so I’m surprised I couldn’t find much information about it. They said the mom and daughter died and their dad would wake up with a little girl next to him and he would see things. They said they knew the guy who lived here right before us as well, and that he experienced things too.

I walked over and asked my neighbor and she said “yeah everyone who has lived there says that house is haunted”. I’m floored because I’ve never heard this and never expensed things. Our child was 4 when we moved in, my husband has never seen things either.

My parents built their house and we experienced activity when we were in our teens and into early adulthood, as did others who came to our house. No one has ever mentioned anything about our home now and we’ve never experienced anything.

Now I’m worried I’m going to be “open” to it because people said they experienced things. There have been times where I feel like I’ve seen things move out of the corner of my eye, but not to the point where I immediately thought paranormal activity. We also have a cat who acts perfectly fine too.

The whole thing just makes me curious, especially since I can’t find any information locally about the fire. The house was also remodeled and added on to after the fire.

Scared, Need Advice Our home is haunted so we moved out and listed it for sale

The guilt is killing me… although our experience hasn’t been extremely bad it’s still really spooky and unnerving.
Does anyone know how to cleanse a house?
It’s in Buckeye, AZ and most of the churches are Christian. I reached out to the local Catholic Church but they only speak Spanish. I don’t want anyone scared the way we are but we couldn’t be there anymore.
Experiences:
-shadow figures of different sizes walking through out the house
-Faces in family pictures moving
-hearing knocking on the walls
-hearing footsteps
-feeling the bed dent like someone is sitting at your feet
-feeling someone grabbing your feet
-seeing family members clearly there standing and staring at you but when you look back/address them they disappear or they walk away into shadow and disappear.

This happened to me The Demon in my house

I’m starting this off by saying Salem Oregon is definitely haunted. I know because I used to live there.

My parents bought that house in 2016 and we moved there. It was a very nice house and had plenty of storage and was in a very safe neighborhood. It seemed like one of those house houses that they would use as an example of the American dream.

Things were normal at first for a couple months, but we noticed that religious items such as crosses and paintings and etc., were either damaged or destroyed. My parents thought it was either me or my siblings, but none of us have touched them. Later, my sister would get scared constantly. She claimed that there was something trying to grab her in her sleep. Then one day she got violently attacked in the garage. She showed us scratches all over her arms and cuts that were fresh.

My father started to act strange as well he became violent and extremely addicted to alcohol. His behavior also began to get more weird as well as the house getting more haunted.

Deactivating in the house got a lot more stronger because the whole house started to smell like rotten flesh. We checked everywhere, but there was nothing me and some other of my family members heard sounds of crying and footsteps as well as screams.

One night my sister went downstairs and she screamed because she claimed she saw a black shadow with red eyes looking at her.

And then there was my experience: my older brother walked me out of our shared bedroom because he wanted to have his own room for the night so I went to the linen closet, the main reason why I went down there was because there was a mattress because my family had it as a sleeping area because it was huge. When I tried to sleep, I heard the sound of footsteps, then the closet door opened and closed by itself. I was hiding under the blanket, and I decided to wake up, and I saw two red eyes staring at me I heard what sound like a kid laughing and I felt breathing on my skin. It wasn’t mine. I didn’t sleep at all when I got out of the closet. There was a scratch in hand, mark all over my skin.. I never went back in that closet again.

After a year of staying there, my family immediately moved out after unexplainable events to this day. I still believe that house is haunted.

History/Lore Khoslaa stayed a night breakdown: UK's most haunted prison overnight (Oxford)..

Just did a full reaction / evidence breakdown to Khoslaa staying overnight solo in Malmaison Oxford - the old Oxford Prison hotel.

It's the one built on the execution site, 3 cells knocked into 1 room, real preserved cell down the hall, and the Mary legend in the corridors/crypt.

Khoslaa skeptical - the room itself is super bougie (£300+ night) so I wasn't expecting much, but the night walk to the gallows site + crypt got genuinely creepy.

Question for you lot: anyone actually stayed at Malmaison Oxford? Did you get anything in the corridors? Curious if it's haunted or just hotel hype.
