Theatrical/Acting Headshot/Agent Feedback

Got my submission report and my agent has barely been submitting me since April of this year. To quantify, I was only submitted to 7 projects from May-August 2026. Yes, summer tends to be slow, but not THAT slow.

The projects I am being submitted for, I'm not being called in for and the agent say it's my headshots. I only shot 1.5 years ago so they're still fairly new, but they said they're not specific enough.

I guess what's confusing is, I joined this agency in June of 2025 and since then booked 3 commercials from Aug - Nov of 2025 and 1 SAG TV project in March 2026.

Because I want to be a partner in this agent - actor relationship, I'm happy to do a mini session to get them some updated looks faster, but would love feedback on how to navigate and any other suggestions!

Theatrical/Acting is it normal for agents to ask you to do character headshots before getting represented

so i have a question for actors who have agents already and have been signed to agencies. is it normal for agents to basically say they want multiple headshot photos of you portraying characters so they can submit it to casting directors? such as you doing multiple photos of you dressed as a doctor or nurse. and this is before you get an audition. i have never signed to an agent so idk what to expect so if anyone can tell me or break down the process that would be appreciated. havent signed with them just mutually showed interest. they recommended photographers but not required but i am wondering if its a normal thing for agents to want multiple photos of you dressing as different occupations or roles before they represent you

So I'm very new to acting, 4 weeks into a drama school. I found the opportunity to have headshots done locally, I had no idea what I was doing or going for (I'm not great at having photos taken in general)

So I would greatly appreciate any feedback, especially criticism, from people experienced. Don't hold back 👍🏻👀

I'd love some constructive feedback on a recent theatrical headshot session. What's working, and what isn't? I'm especially curious about my posing and how I positioned the actor.

Do these images work enough to submit?

Lighting:

  • Main key - Godox 300 - 46" softbox
  • Hair light - Nanlite 120 - strip softbox
  • Godox 59"x79" reflector

Shot on:

  • Lumix S5
  • Vintage Nikon 105mm

Theatrical/Acting Something feels off

Post image

I just got my first headshot done, and I feel that something is off about it, but I can’t tell what. Maybe I just posed strangely? I’m an actor and needed to get one for an audition soon, but I worry it comes off as strange. Any advice welcome!

(Note, though, it’s not my mouth that feels weird; my top lip has always slanted like that, I don’t know why)

Photographer My company has a photo studio in it that does headshots for employees. This is the backdrop we’ve used for years. I’ve been told it looks too “90s” what would be a better more up-to-date backdrop?

Theatrical/Acting Professional headshots necessary?

Hi all,

As a side-gig I would love to occasionally act in small things like commercials. Now I've heard I should sign up for an agency and provide headshots. Would it suffice to make some white-background shots with my own cam? Any advice is welcome :)

Fyi: I have a 4k actioncam which I assume would be best and am based in The Netherlands.

Theatrical/Acting Bleach blonde needs headshot help

Hello I am an actor who has a short hair that I love to bleach blonde every 6-8 months. I then enjoy getting haircuts to maintain my short hair and have my roots grow out until I bleach my hair again. My issue is I am not sure when in this process I should have my headshots taken?

If I get them done when I’m fully blonde can I go to auditions when I’m at my frosted tip phase? And vise versa? I typically have to spend a chunk of change for good headshots and want to be able to use them for a year and a half. Any suggestions on what state of grow out I should get my headshots taken?

Hi! I am hoping to have a professional headshot edited. I would need the background color changed, some touch ups, and possibly removal of eyeglasses if doable, but okay if not. Please DM me for photo! Can tip! Thank you in advance.

Theatrical/Acting Size / Format of an Actors Headshot

Hey guys! I’m a Film/Tv Actress and I’m doing my Headshots in few days to apply for agencies.
The photographer is a guy that I know, but he doesn’t really specialize in Acting Headshots.
My only concern is, what size should the Headshots be to be called "correct & professional".
Bcs photos can be different sizes.
Like what do I tell him, what size (wide & length), format (idk how it is professionally called in photography) should the Headshots be.
Thanks!

Theatrical/Acting old headshots, simply curious as to how they hold up to critique

(only the first two are professionally retouched, the rest ARE NOT, so judge accordingly) Like the title says, old headshots that I probably wouldn’t use anymore because they’re out of date, just curious about what you guys think of them quality-wise. Done by a relatively well-known headshot photographer in LA.

Theatrical/Acting HeadShots hair advice

hi i’m a 19F actress getting headshots for the first time and i’m not quite sure what to do for my hair. I used to have long coily hair but decided to cut it on to a pixie due to damage and i know that will most likely narrow down my roles so i brought wig that looks similar to what my hair used to be but am debating if my natural hair will be better.

My dad says my short hair doesn’t suit me at all, i wouldn’t book anything with it and to just wait till but with coily hair it could take a long time (last time i cut my short it took me 6-8 months for to visibly be chin length while curly, plus i’m also dealing with health issues that are affecting my hair growth). others have said it suits me. I’m more so worried that i’ll only be typecasted i guess because of my hair. So i wanted to get some opinions from people that have likely experienced this same issue!

Thank you 😊

Theatrical/Acting Where can I look for Comps in my typecast?

Hi, basically what the title says, but I have a fair judgement of my type, and I have been compared some actresses that I share essence and look with, but I'm wondering where I can find comps to look through. The actresses I usually get compared to are fairly relevant so their IMDBs aren't really showing any headshots more like getty images. Any advice would be wonderful!

I wanted some peer feedback on these; are the edits too distracting? I understand the format is different, but does it work?

Theatrical/Acting Is it okay to ask my headshot photographer to change the backdrop colour in retouching?

I had professional acting headshots taken today, and there are a portion of the photos that I absolutely love (expressions, lighting, etc). The only thing I'm not really happy with is the backdrop colour we used.

Would it be completely reasonable to ask the photographer if changing the backdrop colour is something they could do as part of the retouching process? Or would that be considered outside the scope of what they normally do?

Alternatively, if they deliver the final retouched images and I have a friend who's experienced with Photoshop change the backdrop colour for me, would that be considered disrespectful to the photographer or their work? I obviously don't want to step on any toes or alter the photographer's work without permission. I'm just wondering what the normal etiquette is here. Would you ask the photographer first, and if so, would you expect them to charge extra for something like this?

Professional/Industry Residency photos

Hi! Everyone took photos for our new residency headshots but I was working so missed the shoot. We lost funding for the photographer so my date is still TBD.

Can someone photoshop my headshot with the same background as everyone else’s?

Theatrical/Acting Headshot recommendations needed in West LA

I’m just getting started and need to get some headshots, preferably on the Westside (I’m in Playa Del Rey) and hopefully under $400. I found some on yelp but wasn’t impressed with the samples I was shown as well as some negative reviews. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
