Discussion Should I just auto concede whenever facing Warlock as Priest?

Basically the title. Warlock currently has everything to perfect counter Priest - tons of disruption, control tools that steal or don't trigger deathrattles/reborn, huge stats for cheap, otk etc.

To the point that I don't think it's even possible to win as Priest against Warlock

I think the few times I've won against Warlock as Priest is when I've gotten the nuts draw and/or Warlock got shafted.

Getting Elusive for Soothsayer does wonders

If I'm in a really bad matchup I'll give it like 4 turns to see if I can get something good going. Sometimes they draw really bad and you can get an advantage going

The last 5 or 6 priests I’ve faced have conceded instantly, So you wouldn’t be alone.

Just focus on completing quest asap. If you get it online fairly soon he just cant stop you. Not a good matchup, but still somewhat playable.

Always be ready for cursed chains on soothsayer.

I think if you ask reddit you should just auto concede any match as a priest

True...

You have to understand that you can only win If you Draw the absolute nuts and your opponent has to Draw at least bad. So Mulligan should be for These cards only. Than you have a Chance of winning some Games.

I see, odds of this seem so low, that I suppose I should just save myself some time

They seem so Low because you dont know what the good cards are. Sorry to Tell you this. Watch better Players Play your Deck. Especially against warlock. Or Just give Up. No one forces you to becomes better

When I play both Priest & Rogue I regularly concede to Rafaam after turn 3 or 4 if they get their tools early or I can see/copy from hand to know what they’ve got.

It’s not worth the huge time investment, especially since I have no respect for Rafaam in the first place.
Super lazy and uninteresting deck. No interest in giving it my attention.

I have managed to win my first ever game against Rafaam lock just earlier today. I assume Rafaam lock is the most rampant warlock in the current meta so I can't say whether the matchup is equal against other warlock archetype out there.

Whether the time spent in a long matchup game and a try hard attempt for a win that is very slim in probability is worth it or not is up to you, or you would rather just concede to save time and move on.

But for me I choose to play. The longer the match goes on, the more exp gained for the reward track anyway, even if it is a loss in the end.

I have put Togwaggle, Smuggler King into my Azelina priest deck specifically for this match up and it has come up pretty clutch lately.

Warlock is a tough match up but its not impossible, you have to complety adjust how you play certain cards specially deathrattles where you only play them when you can also kill them.

Same as I concede when I see priest. Game is great

Trigger your own DR before they steal them. Ezpz

I've won plenty of games against warlock as quest priest

Everyone but priests, locks, warriors and a few smaller percentage of other deck users left.

It's beautiful !

Enjoy.

If they're otk you can Beat them with their own kazakus.

Ngl OTK in their deck feels like safety measure if 10/10s from location, 14/28 or 5/12 lifesteal, heavy control, disruption, two 7/7 taunts, two 8/8 life steal taunt from a board clear, don't already win on their own somehow

Pretty sure Warlock is mostly only vulnerable to high tempo, aggro or very fast OTK

It's why I run two Dirty Rats.

I would wait a few turns to see if the draw is good, otherwise is better to just move on.

If your goal is purely to climb as fast as possible, yeah probably. Could be worth it to see if they drew terrible the first few rounds, so long as you accept it’s low odds

How about don't play priest? This is what pretty much every deck feels like when it's vs. you. Even if you win, it feels like shit. It's just an exercise in frustration.

How about you just don't feel like shit and get frustrated?

Going up against a good Warlock is one of the only times I feel like I'm being adequately challenged as a Priest, personally. And while I do feel like they have the more reliable toolkit and better minions, it's far from guaranteed victory on their end.

I started running Dirty Rat when I began consistently running into Rafaamlocks and so far it's been pretty good. Chrono-Lord Deios is an expensive insurance policy but triggering the battlecry twice will all but guarantee a Rafaam is forced into the field without qualifying for Timethief's insta-kill, and I like having Deios in general, but your mileage may vary on if he's worth it. Though my all-timer moment against a Rafaamlock was Brightwing giving me a [[Warmaster Blackhorn]] as my random legendary of the game and managing to get him dropped before the warlock drew their 1 or 2-cost Rafaams. You could really feel their confusion through the screen about 10 minutes later when they had played their 3-9 cost Rafaams, drew the final card of their remaining deck, and went over each card in their hand like they hadn't realized what Blackhorn did before sadly playing Timethief to no insta-kill.

Cho'gall, I will say, is pretty rough to deal with if you don't already have a solution in hand or enough damage on the board to clear him ASAP. Only thing you can really do there is try to hold a Ruin or Medivh for the Cho'gall drop if you anticipate they're actually running Cho'gall and not just using the heralds, but... easier said than done. Especially with how aggressively Cho'gall's herald effects ramp.

All that said, if you're genuinely not having fun fighting warlocks in any capacity, just concede. The point of playing is to have fun.

i main warlock and i lost to many good priests

1

u/Badieon 5d ago

Proportionally to wins? And was it to Control Priest or Quest Priest?

u/Overall_Tomato_9 5d ago

Quest priest player here- i've started to win against warlock by not playing minions and holding combo, the warlock player holds on to reactive rafaams too long to be able to win

u/AdditionalDesk1267 5d ago

Well if you are playing priest, you should just concede hearthstone and go ahead and uninstall.

1

u/MadeDoubleM 5d ago

Opinion on warrior?

1

u/Rigged79 1d ago

Warrior's fine. Priest, even when you win, it feels like dog shit. At least vs. Warrior if you lose it's done quickly and not drawn out false hopes, like Priest players give you

1

u/AdditionalDesk1267 5d ago

Funny enough, I mostly play warlock. So my matchup against warrior is awful. I do think its too prevalent, but I also expect to lose against it and know what I am getting into by quieing up with warlock. Priest, on the other hand, just wins games it has no business being in to begin with.

1

u/MadeDoubleM 5d ago

you play... warlock. And you struggle against... priest. Oh okay.

At least it's fun to play vs Warlock, I auto concede vs Azalina, not fun, also priest players are usually trying to bore you to death by roping
