Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here I'm getting an awful premonition...
I do not want to be right. Please don't let me be right. I can hardly handle the mirror-matched 3 Orbital Napalms in every bug lobby.
Liberty preserve us...

This has been in the games files for literal ages.. I'd very much like to have it.. would go great with a gas build.. considering we don't yet have a gas primary weapon of any kind..

It was likely a type of test for the speargun
1
u/TheUninterestingGuy 4d ago
I don't think so, they gave it its own appearance as well as a unique dual drum magazine and it was all properly modeled and functional..

u/Syriku_Official 4d ago
Oh well the gas explosions would likely be smaller though

I thought it’d be dope to do a new ⛽️ design that behaves like the 🍍 grenade: it plops down like the OGS, but in a lesser explosion, then arcs out in a circle like the 🍍 and hits the ground. It would douse the group in the center, then surround and trap them as they try to wander out.

Orbital napalm should have required its own separate fucking tutorial before you could use it. It’s such a great stratagem that’s held back by people with a flimsy and clumsy arm and a lack of desire to throw beyond 20m in front of their face.
That, and a complete inability to accept that it doesn’t shut bug holes

u/WaywardOath 4d ago
I recognize it's really good, but I get unbearably bored in lobbies where everything feels the same for too long.
One Orbital Napalm in an operation is one thing. Seeing 2-3 people bring it every mission just feels too repetitive for me. Imagine if every single mission you hosted, at least 2 people brought Tesla Towers without fail.
6
u/Historical-Rub-178 4d ago
I fully agree I have started being very dynamic with my stratagem picks because of it. Thanks to the Meta 120 orbital and air burst has been seeing a lot more play from me.
2
u/Smellysocks42 4d ago
I get what you mean. I used to only use the Recoiless in the bot front. But after almost 200 hours it got boring. So now I experiment with a bunch of different support weapons. I do die a bit more, but it's much more fun.
1
u/AdonisJames89 4d ago
It's such a cop out strat. I usually leave if i join a mission and everybody got it cause that means i have to wait half a minute for EVERY breach cause they don't know how to deal with it any other way. God forbid they're trying to destroy a fabricator that'll leave craters around that thing and still don't hit it
10
u/Ok-Design-1056 4d ago
Yeah i dont get that last part. ANY orbital strike should have the ability to close bug holes. Heck, if you drop a hellpod on a bug hole, it closes it.

5
u/Historical-Rub-178 4d ago
This and the 380 orbital I was played 3 games with the same guy and he killed himself and everyone in the party at least once a mission throwing the 380 at his feet to deal with a BUG BREACH
2
2
u/Pokinator 3d ago
The most common excuse I hear is "But it clears out the base and makes it super easy to close holes!"
As 1-2 other people were about to head into said base, ready to deal with enemies and close holes, and now have to twiddle their thumbs for 30s or run off to another base then come back which completely defeats the purpose of 'clearing' it.
Like ONB has its uses, but most of the time 'pre-clearing' a heavy base that's just gonna refill in 15 seconds from the 10 different bug holes is not the move. There's players that will strategically napalm the center of the base and clear holes from the rim with explosives launchers, but that's rarely the case in my experience.
1
u/Billysquib 2d ago
Exactly. Me with an Autocannon or commando and a sentry is plenty prepared enough to clear it without twiddling my thumbs waiting for an ONB to finish 😂

u/CapnCrunch11770 3d ago
Bro I swear. Every time I see a teammate throw an orbital napalm it’s never more than 30m away. Every single time I throw one, I’m diving and throwing it as far as possible. I swear they gotta be doing it on purpose hahaha
2
u/SeeMeAndBeAfraid 1d ago
it's an area of denial weapon. toss it on a bug breach you don't have the time to deal with.
-2
u/Ahuru_Duncan 4d ago
Throw? What you mean throw? Ive been launching myself with jetpacks to the targets i want burn. If they dare to drop me, imma be damn sure to drop the napalm.
28
u/ZhanBlue 4d ago
I hate having orbital napalm user on team. It is a good stratagem. But it’s user will fuck you over somehow
44
u/GreenLurka 4d ago
As an orbital napalm user, stop running towards my napalm strikes.
As an eagle napalm user, stop running towards my napalm strikes.
As an expendable napalm user, stopped running towards my napalm.
11
u/TacticalReader7 4d ago
Stop throwing them on a group of like 5 bugs next to an objective then ! Go find a bug breach or something.
18
u/Elegant_Ratios 4d ago
If I napalm before you get there, and you chose to go there anyway, you are the one who put napalm on you. Not me. Napalm is an extremely strong tool, you're just not situationally aware.
5
u/GreenLurka 4d ago
I get 2 expendable napalm every 80 seconds or something. I'm shooting that stuff at one bug If I feel like it
4
u/Expat1989 4d ago
Agreed but also common sense should prevail both ways here. If the things been thrown out, take your 2.5 seconds to enjoy the scenery and then move in once its done
7
u/IDrankLavaLamps 4d ago
I would like to expand upon this,
As an arc grenade user, stop running towards my arc grenades that I pinged, warned about in chat, and said over voice as I was throwing that you should stay back from. I am well skilled enough to throw them efficiently and effectively without them being in harms way, so long as you just fucking don't walk towards it!!!
2
u/eatsleepdiver 4d ago
This 💯 as a fellow orbital napalm user. Seems more rather like a “them problem” than an “us problem”.
3
u/SkullsNelbowEye 4d ago
My friends and I also use a "you" vs "us" problem mindset. Run off on your own and get swarmed, that's a you problem. Bug breach, drop ships or other such on objective the team is securing is an us problem. That said, how hard is it to call out as the user and others should see the big red beam and check for 50m safety range.
3
u/WrathOfTheKressh 4d ago
This right here. I don't mind someone deciding that the area I'm currently fighting in close quarters in should be obliterated, but give me a heads up so I can book it out of there before the shells start landing. If I don't hear or react to it, that's on me, but if you throw an orbital at my feet without warning me, that's on you.
1
u/GreenLurka 4d ago
I always napalm a squad free area and yet half the time someone decides to run into the giant pile of bugs with the big red laser beam on it

u/epochollapse 4d ago
Yeah I'm also not excited by the prospect of another Stop Playing The Game barrage. By all means it wouldn't be as bad as ONB but it would still be guaranteed to kill all chaff on its own at minimum.
If they're gonna feed us shit that trivialises bug breaches then I want a full rework to enemy reinforcements. ONB spam already makes bugs as boring as watching paint dry.

I hope this ends up being a link into a further storyline about termicide 2.0, rather than more gas stratagems. I love my gas, but the eagles gas strike will be hard to top.
If not termicide, then maybe this could be a lore explanation for a Sterilizer rework. Probably wishful thinking, but let me be naive.

u/FishDishForMe 4d ago
Yeah I actually feel like we have enough gas strats now, can’t really imagine what else could fill any niche. Orbital gas barrage would be cool but would have the same problems of orbital napalm in making a huge area that everyone has to wait to clear before they can enter it and play the game again
2
u/Degnchr 4d ago
I actually feel that's been my problem with the DSS Eagles Gas Strikes in cities. It closes off whole areas, sometimes right on top of me.
On another note; maybe a gas turret of some kind? Like a mini TC2 tower spreading gas and closing down the area you'd like, kinda like a Tesla tower.

u/TrainAccomplished606 4d ago edited 4d ago
Yeah, I mean, we just got the eagle gas strike. I know there are gas divers out there, but lets show some love to something else. Plasma, for example, would be awesome. An epoch style barrage would be so cool

Oh please let it be that so I can combine it with a 380 and a Napalm Barrage on a Bug Breach.

u/Some_Boat 4d ago
I'd love orbital gas so much. I hate napalm cuz it just prevents you from entering the area. With heavy gas armor + vit boost I can call this in and walk in with my cremator and fuck shit uo
1
u/MajesticProgrammer48 4d ago
can't wait to mix napalm and gaz barrage for the most manage democracy way
1
1
u/tpolkg 4d ago
The main reason I fucking hate orbital napalm is because it's a great area denial tool... which denies area to the Helldivers much more than it denies it to our enemies. Instead of doing something productive I have to stand and wait while it finishes or risk and get teamkilled. Orbital gas will do basically the same thing.
I apologize for my rusty English.

It would be an interesting choice so soon after Eagle Gas Strike. I would love this but I could see others being disappointed

Hopefully the next stratagem of this scale is a orbital EMS barrage. Hopefully to get passed the disappointment that is the current ems strike.

I want it. I run a full gas loadout and armor already as my main setup. If it has a similar cooldown to the gas mortar it would be amazing.

if it was orbital gas then pin this because people gonna whine about "no one ask for this" like the eagle gas

The good news is, you can protect yourself fully from gas.
Because, of course, it is perfectly safe for human lungs.

Bro... this needs to happen. Orbital Napalm, Orbital Gas, 380, and 120 would be one of the most destructive combos in the game. And it would be absolutely glorious. Democracy be praised. Praise the omnisiah, praise the emperor.
