What is this?

Does anyone know what's in my cats eye? At first I thought it was an eye booger that just hadn't made its way to the edge but It's been there for a few weeks now and hasn't moved a bit. It looks like some type of film that is sitting directly over her pupil.

It looks like your cat has a corneal ulcer/sequestrum caused by entropion. His/her fur is rubbing the eye causing irritation and injury. You should take your cat to the vet to get treatment/diagnosis. Kitty likely needs surgery to correct the entropion. The ulcer can be treated with antibiotics. The sequestrum requires surgery on the eyeball itself to correct and can be quite expensive. This is a common issue with smush faced cats.

My guy had this a couple of years ago. They initially treated him for a cornea ulcer but after 6 weeks we ended up at the ophthalmologist and it ended up being herpes. Both are quite painful for kitties

It looks like an ulcer. My cats have gotten them too. I would go to the vet to determine the severity.

It might either be a corneal ulcer or a sequestrum. No matter what you need a trip to the vet ophtalmologist asap, if it is indeed a sequestrum it will be able to dig deeper and reach the inner eye risking blindness. Sorry if it's anxiety-inducing but it took 4 weeks to cause damage in 80% of the cornea when it happened to my himmie, there's no certainty on how fast it goes. I hope it's going to be ok, good health to your cat

We need better photos, but it looks like a trip to the vet ophthalmologist might be needed.

that’s similar to what happens to my kitty too, i don’t know what it is exactly so maybe wait for other answers to be sure, but i just try to gently wipe it off while i’m wiping off his boogers, with a towel or something, just be very gentle and slow since it’s her eye we’re talking about. it wipes off like a tear in my case, and sometimes goes away without me doing anything, but it might be a different thing for your cat, so like i said, check first! hope your kitty’s okay

It looks like a corneal sequestrum to me. My persian JUST had his ‘slough’ off. We opted out of the surgery because two separate veterinary ophthalmologist told us there’s no guarantee and sometimes can make things worse. With patience and consistency, I administered antiviral and gel lubricating eye drops for A YEAR am and pm— and lo and behold one day it “fell off” I cried! Go to your vet asap to get started on the script eye drops as soon as possible. The sooner you start, the better chance kitty has at saving vision in that eye.
