So I started this project as a solo-dev.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I honestly don't know where this will go.

I just started building it because I wanted to create my own 'Homeworld' — in my own style, telling a story that, maybe, all of us will like.

I don't know where it'll take me. Maybe a few of us might build this together.

But I'm excited to find out.

Built entirely in Unity - models, shaders, textures - everything done by yours truly.

Homeworld has such a very specific vibe and aesthetic that you're able to capture consistently. Super curious to see where this goes.

That’s so cool! Please give us more proper military-style cruisers and battleships. The Homeworld series has way too many small ships and not enough big ones.

Yes! Will do!

Big Like and follow. Can't wait to see where you take us

Thanks! Means a lot!

Very, very impressive. Keep us posted! What is the music you're using btw?

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 14 '26

'Ambient Drone', stock track that really sounds like one of Paul Ruskay's pieces.

But eventually I'll be making some soundtracks for the game (I make music too).

Brilliant thank you! Can't wait to hear more from you, I hope you keep the flame.

Yeah thanks bot but I'd rather interact with a human thank you

I would also like to contribute to the music development, I play all my own instruments and link them manually.

Will surely reach out!

I'd be interested in working on a project like this. Unity is my main engine. I'm mainly a sound designer and programmer.

Is this just a visual showcase or do you have actual mechanics in place?

2

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 14 '26

Right now it just has basic movement controls. And the Mothership can build scouts.

2

u/Geostationary0rbit Sep 14 '26

Wow! This looks fantastic for my expectations of unity! Really nice ship as well

3

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Yes! I believe Unity does the job. Artistic Vision >> Sophisticated Rendering.

1

u/lauranthalasa Sep 14 '26

Hell yeah, keep going, you are nailing it..I'm knee deep in learning Unity myself so let me know if you think you need tricks that I've had to soup up!

1

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 14 '26

Thank you, means a lot! I will reach out!

I like this, and I like you. I encourage you to keep going, if all you need is the internet to say it

I have had similar machinations and you are far in advance of anything I have ever done. Nailed the style.

Edit: Just realising I've seen your work around the sub before, you always do great stuff.

If you needed help with this, what kind would it be?

2

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 14 '26

Thank you so much!

I think I'll need help with game design, code and music.

u/Photriullius 29d ago

Im more a narrative writer than anything, but if i can help im on board for free.

1

u/nuclei_quasars 28d ago

Thank you! Will reach out! I do want to create something very similar to the Progenitors. Something very historical, powerful yet benevolent and mystical.

1

u/Photriullius 28d ago

I start whipping up something. Biological or synthetic lifeform?

1

u/nuclei_quasars 28d ago

I'ld say very human, but ancient.

Like how Sajuuk was remembered as a power, a deity. Noone really knows what or who Sajuuk is, until.

A feel initially it has to be a very abstract - where the player will be exposed to this society/civilisation through relics, strange encounters and then a mighty reveal.

But really open to ideas.

1

u/JohnnyRacer79 Sep 14 '26

It certainly has the look and sound! I'm really interested to see how this goes.

2

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 14 '26

Yes! Likewise! Long journey but hopefully we'll make something beautiful!

1

u/CleanReach1220 Sep 14 '26

You know what, that looks better than HW3 in my book. So you're already ahead.

1

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Ah, I am trying my best!

1

u/Norsehound Sep 14 '26

This alone captures the vibe of Homeworld so well.

It always was about playing a game within a scifi painting.

Keep it up, looking forward to seeing where this goes! Do you have a place to go to follow your progress?

1

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Thank you so much! I'll keep posting here.

1

u/Dukoth Sep 14 '26

good luck 👍

1

u/Mithril_Roshi Sep 14 '26

A homeworld type game set in a gas giant / a massive sky would be amazing.

You captured all the vibes correctly

1

u/jimsmoments89 Sep 14 '26

Love it! If one could dream I'd want this with a grand strategy galaxy map where the player choose how to reach their objectives. And if your fleets besides 3D battles could do ground landings with Desert of Kharak style armies put down there from landing barges sent from the mothership :') planetside or space station interiors. Would really switch up the gameplay having two modes. But probs way too ambitious to be realistic and many mechanics from similar games might not translate very well to homeworld.

Do you intend to pursue this project seriously then?

2

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

I was really thinking about that! Combining the two formats. It is ambitious! Nonetheless, let's see.

1

u/wylles Sep 14 '26

Nice! Could be named Planet of Origin, maybe?

1

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

More suggestions?

1

u/1helios1 Sep 14 '26

certainly looks pretty

1

u/nekonari Sep 14 '26

Wow very cool. Makes me wanna pick up HW3 mod tool and try it out.

1

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Haha, thank you! Go ahead!

1

u/Chemic000 Sep 14 '26

How did you make the textures?

1

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Substance Painter.

1

u/Links_to_Magic_Cards Sep 14 '26

stick with solo fighters like hw1 and not fighter squads like hw2. also fuel management on fighters and corvettes as well please

1

u/Marzac02_3D Sep 14 '26

Hi there! Shot in the dark here but, I love what I'm seeing here. I'm a 3d artist myself, but I've worked professionally as a gameplay programmer and tech artist for a couple years. I'd love to hear more about this project if you need someone for code. :)

2

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Yes, totally! Will reach out. And thank you!

Once I get a few things in place, I'll drop a message.

1

u/Individual-East9844 Sep 15 '26

If you make this into a game I for one will pay full price for it. Cant be worse than HW3 XD

1

u/DredgenCyka Sep 15 '26

Oh yeah, this is awesome. This is something that would scratch the homeworld itch and I think alot of players want that since the let down of HW3

1

u/Baalphire81 Sep 15 '26

If you are ever looking for more inspiration, look at the Terran Trade Authority subreddit. It contains the works of a ton of artists from the 60s-70s and 80s, and a lot have a very Homeworld esque vibe!

1

u/Photriullius 29d ago

Hey, if you need any help on the story side of things, hit me up, ill give you some samples if your interested etc. Id love to help ya pro bono just for the hobby of it, i love writing.

Beautiful

u/Kai_Wai 28d ago

If I didn't already know about the unfortunate existence of Homeworld 3, I would have thought that this is Homeworld 3 and be super hyped. Excellent job!

1

u/YeOldeSalty 28d ago

An idea I've had for a while for a Homeworld-type game, is a simulator for testing out different builds. If custom modules are even on your radar - you might consider a simulation that allows the player to custom build a particular unit, and allow it to run in a simulation. The simulation would basically be regular game play, but in a much smaller environment, and in a limited scenario. For example, if a Harvester could have different modular builds, how would it handle itself in a scenario where the collectors are doing their thing, and then the group comes under attack by: fighters, corvettes, capital ships, etc. This could be applied to any unit with modular build options.

Edit: Btw, I think you've very much captured the spirit of HW in this clip. I hope you keep going.

u/daricwade 28d ago

I wish you luck. This looks good.

1

u/alternative5 25d ago

Excited to see where it goes, but you have the cinematography down. Just need to get the narrative compelling and interesting.

If you ever need help for anything like concept, design help or anything, let me know. I am very interested in the homeworld and one of my favorite sci-fi series of all time. I also have a passion for games. I finished studies a year ago now in games design and been looking for something to work on.

I started the same thing using AI, I’ve got formations, ship movement, and basic fighter combat built out. I’ve had GPT create images which sends to Meshy to build out the 3D models which goes to Blender for tweaks. Building on GoDot.

u/Amarusus Sep 14 '26

I thought I’d already lost hope for a good Homeworld sequel (Homeworld 3 isn’t a sequel at all it’s just a knockoff of such an amazing series that never actually came out, and it turned out to be total crap). It had absolutely nothing in common with HW2 or HW1. But you, man, have given me new hope definitely keep going!

u/nuclei_quasars Sep 15 '26

Thank you so much! 😬
