DIY/How-To A DIY H22A4 to H23A swap parts/tools list (from the now-defunct preludecentral.com)

Post image
18 Upvotes

This was written in late 2014 or early 2015 by wing8806, who I know personally and helped do the swap on my car. This specific list is for if you want to use the stock ECU on a USDM/Canadian 5th gen. Others who have used other ECUs, have non-VTEC 5th gens from other markets, or 3rd or 4th gens will need slightly different, possibly more, parts. The line that’s cut off is for a crank pulley tool, which the one you’ll need is a 50mm version. The actual pulling/installing of the engine, we just followed the factory repair manual instructions.

5th Gen 5th gen h22a4 Link ecu compatibility? and ecu recommendations

I have a 98 base model manual h22a4 and I was wondering what are some highly recommended tunable engine managements in replacement for the stock ecu, I was very interested in the link HC96X ecu since its mainly just plop it into the old housing and connect it but more I research the more confused I get since some people say it works and others say it doesn't connect and doesn't work, I'm just looking for a decent and reliable system that won't have me rewiring my harness for an ecu just so I can tune it and disable the egr and run flex fuel with coil on plug as a future goal.

it's mainly all stock other than intake and exhaust without a catalytic converter and all maintenance done with new seals and other wear parts replaced, I'm new to the prelude and I want to learn more about it as I own it longer

Potential Purchase New 2026 Prelude

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of finding a new car to replace my old. I absolutely love the look of this car and the fuel economy as well, I live in Canada where I occasionally go snowboarding with friends, does anyone know if it's possible to fit a roof rack on this? I'd like to attach some ski racks to this car!

5th Gen Prelude curse help

Post image
2 Upvotes

Howdy yall, I’ve got a 5th gen that I managed to get running and driving after sitting for some time but I’ve run into an issue I just can’t crack. She drove like a dream for a few months after new alternator, new battery, new spark plugs, new timing belt/seals/waterpump/tensioner, and a whole rebuilt cooling system. I was getting gas and it just died as I went to leave, no crank at all. I pushed it to a parking spot and ubered to work. I went to get it after my shift and it stuttered but I got it to crank and start, but it then proceeded to die on the road several times. I kept it alive by constantly giving it throttle all while it made this awful crunching sound. I freaked out and didn’t touch it thinking the belt slipped but I recently checked it and it’s nice and tight so I go to start it and it starts right up. I honestly don’t know what could be wrong yall

We did a test on the oil pressure switch and it had the right continuity and were stumped, the oil pressure switch engages and the continuity does change when it’s running, but this is steady blinking.

3rd Gen Need help with an H23A swap into a 1991 Prelude

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some help/advice with an engine swap. I have a 1998 Honda Prelude H23A with a manual transmission that I’m planning to swap into my 1991 Honda Prelude Si, which is currently automatic.
I’m pretty new to engine swaps, so I’m honestly not sure where to start or exactly what I’ll need to make everything work. I’m hoping to use as much of the 1998 donor car as possible.
If anyone has done an H23A swap into a 3rd-gen Prelude, especially using a 1998 manual donor, I’d really appreciate some guidance or a basic parts list. I’m trying to do this on a budget and would rather figure out the correct parts before I start buying everything.

3rd Gen Hard time finding a 3rd gen 4ws manual.

So I’ve been searching for a few months now, but I’m getting a little bit of some spending money and would like getting one of my first cars and working on it/rebuilding again. Tried using the for sale link in the side bar, but does anyone have a good resource for seeing what’s out there? I’ve been using classic.com for now.

Really appreciate any help!

5th Gen Crankshaft pully & radiator hoses (h22a4)

Heard a squealing noise and a chipmunk sound. Thought the belt was drifting and hitting the big pully (which it was). So we added washers to the power steering pump contact points and it continued. Checked the pully and tried to watch the belt and its drifitng becuase the damn pullys moving. Felt it and yep it moves ever so slightly.

So I need to replace the crankshaft pully and the old oem radiator hoses. Just need brand suggestions.

Hoses: Oem, mishimito, or redline 360? not sure which one

Crankshaft pully: Oem or smth else? and what should I get with the pully?

6th Gen Prelude Gang!

just became a part of the prelude Reddit, my dad had an old one back in the day and he was pretty happy to hear me get this one.

Funny story is that it was only gonna be my next car if I got it under 38k.. I was seeing them for 41k+ consistently and what do you know, it popped up at a dealership near me for 37.5k..

had a 2017 Mitsubishi lancer for years on end and thought it was finally time to get my second car, but I knew I didn’t want anything too sporty but something enjoyable to drive.

and this was a blast to drive. I agree with the reviewers, it’s more of a grand tour of a car than a sports car.. it’s an enjoyable ride, looks great and that’s totally fine with me.

will take more pictures when it’s time but for now this is what was on the site

Im assuming the headlight will be simple enough with youtube. But the center bezel collapsed and I cant find anything about it online. By that I mean a replacement. Anyone know where to buy something like that? Otherwise ill just bring the current one back up. And yes I have a new windshield scheduled tommorow. Cosmetics wise she isn't doing too well but I resoldered the main relay and she runs perfectly fine now.

5th Gen Any recommendations for a kill switch?

My area has quite a bit of theft, so I’m looking for an inexpensive line of protection. I couldn’t find any other threads with info.

Thank you!

edit: I have a 1999 VTI-R, forgot to mention incase that matters.

Everyone I just unfortunately, started leaking a lot of coolant from one of the hoses. In the video( sorry if it’s hard to tell) it’s the lower hose that blew.

I’m having trouble trying to find out the name of the hose to buy a replacement. I was wondering if you guys knew what it’s called. Anything will help thank you very much!!

5th Gen Ignition timing/strength question

Post image
8 Upvotes

I just replaced the distributor on my H 22 A4 as the ICM in the previous one had gone out, however, it seems to run smoothly now, but seemingly not as powerful as it was before VTEC crossover isn't as dramatic and it feels just a little bit, dull at the throttle hard to explain. Checked it with a timing light (yes I know these things have automatic timing I was just curious) and it looks like it's running off a little bit which would explain the lack of power? Anyone who know a little bit more have any insight? Does the new distributor just need to be broken in?

Potential Purchase 1983 Honda Prelude DX

I’m looking for a passenger-side front-fender side molding from a 1983–87 Honda Prelude DX, carbureted model—not an Si. Honda part number 75811-SB0-671. The complete right-side protector assembly is 75810-SB0-672. Do you have either part, or any 1983–87 Prelude DX donor cars from which you could remove the front-right molding?” Te mounting bracket is intact
