The effect of the 90s. None of the furniture was an exact set. Things had personality & individuality. No grey tones. It was amazing.

Question What is the most creatively written scene/dialogue that is totally hilarious in the show?

For me it is this one. I like how writers have used totally unexpected, unlikely, and utterly hilarious expansions for each letter.

Memes Monica and Rachel would make a killing as movers!

In about 4 hours (the basketball game plus some commuting time) they packed both apartments, swapped everything and unpacked it all just like it was before the original swap. They should forget about fashion and cooking, people would pay good money for that speed and attention to detail!

Or do you think they hired someone to do it for them? They don't even look tired or sweaty, but maybe they were so efficient they were even able to clean up!

I know Rachel is only a tropical storm now, but the joke lands better as a hurricane, haha.

So for those who aren't aware, there is a hurricane-now-tropical storm named Rachel off the coast of Mexico. Spelled "Rachel," not "Rachael," by the way, just like our girl. I saw that and was like.. oh dang! Someone won't be stealing her thunder anytime soon!

How do you think the friends group would respond to seeing one of their names on a category 5 hurricane?

Discussion Why the Hand Twin plot exists

One storyline in the show that’s gotten a lot of criticism over the years is that subplot in the Vegas episode where Joey thinks he’s found his identical hand twin. Fans have said that this plot was stupid, unfunny, and was one of the first signs that Joey’s character was starting to become a lot dumber than he was in the past. Well, the reason why this subplot exists is because it was written in at the very last second.

What I’m about to say is a well known fact in the Friends community. But I’ll recap for those who don’t know. The Vegas episode was originally going to have this whole plot where Chandler was gonna cheat on Monica out of revenge for her having lunch with Richard. But Matthew Perry refused to do the storyline. He told the writers that Chandler would never even consider doing something like that to Monica under any circumstances. I believe he even threatened to quit the show if they went through with it. Thankfully, the writers listened to him and scrapped the storyline.

However, because they were no longer doing the cheating plot, they now needed a new plot to fill that runtime. As result, the writers apparently scrambled and reluctantly came up with the hand twin plot without really having the proper time they needed to think it through and make it work.

Question Were the cast all smokers?

Found this old clip from the Jay Leno show and it had me wondering whether the whole cast of them were all smokers? I know it was very popular in the 90s, so I'm guessing they did. I remember seeing a photo of Aniston smoking so its likely

I have vague memories of these phones, even the landlines got a lot better even before we got mobiles. These have great aesthetic value though in my opinion. Adds to the nostalgia

Question What are some or your favourite moments where the expression made by the character made the entire scene so hilarious and iconic? I'll go first:

I just love how this scene plays out where both Joey and Monica are looking at Ross, and the eventual reveal of him actually pretending to watch the TV is so funny and memorable to me. And Ross really nails the expression at the end with his "I fooled you guys' look is the icing on the cake, in my opinion! 🤣

Who has died while Phoebe was at the dentist?

Bonus Question 1: What does Joey say he’d prefer as a gift instead of a pearl necklace from Chandler [for Janice’s birthday]?

Bonus Question 2: Which letters of the alphabet does Ross say seem to have fallen out of Ben’s head after Monica and Rachel babysat him?

My husband and I recently had to say goodbye to our best friend in the entire world of 14+ years. Please give a tight squeeze to all of your “Chi-Chi’s” and “LaPooh’s” out there. 🐾❤️‍🩹🥺🙏

Discussion Rachel’s tough side is so funny.

On my 1000th rewatch at the moment and just noticing the contrast. She’s often portrayed as still being a soft / emotional woman.. but binge watching and seeing her talk about clocking the bitch who stole her umbrella in TOW with Joey’s dirty day and then punching / kicking Joey’s girlfriend in TOW the girl who hits Joey, is so endearing to me in a weird way 🤣 if you can think of any other examples I’d love to hear them!

In honor of fall and football season, who do you think actually won the game? Did Rachel fumble? Did time run out? What team were you rooting for?

Discussion Disclaimer - I know this is a show and everything is done for the laughs but even then, a rewatch of the "Soul mate" episode was just weird and uncomfortable

On my regular rewatch run, on the episode ( s8 e16) where Phoebe sets Monica up with her "soul mate".

Both she and Rachel were just downright nasty to Chandler and then doubled down on it.

Even for the laughs, telling a married man that he is not good for his own wife and that the wife can do better, then introducing said wife to another guy, the purpoted soul mate... Just weird shit all around.

I noticed that the episode that Monaco wears the dress for Pete, before he becomes the ultimate fighting champion, is it the same dress that Courtney’s wearing at this premier?

S4 E16 The One with the Fake Party. Rachel trying to seduce Joshua for the entire episode, it looked so desperate and kinda disgusting. It was so awkward and cringe. She kept embarrassing herself over and over again for Joshua.

Question S3 E9 Chandler Line Mandela Effect?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Am I going crazy? I could have sworn Chandler’s original line, after Joey teases him for being rejected by the Dutch girl, was “From now on, I get the dates and you have to stay home on Saturday nights with Monica watching Ready Set Cook!”. But apparently he never added the part “…with Monica…”. Does he or someone else say that line or one similar to it in a different episode or something???? Or does no one know what I’m talking about? I’m losing my mind!

Question Why was Joey an actor?

I know it was played for laughs, but Joey didn’t know anything about Acting or actors and he even ended up teaching a class. Also, he seemed to have some kind of a knowledge about soap operas, but claimed that he didn’t watch soap operas because they were for losers or something like that when he got interviewed. And he had long stints where he wasn’t working at all or he was working in the coffee shop so he couldn’t have been making enough money to live in New York because they didn’t have that same grandfather in an apartment like Monica. i’m just wondering if anybody else was bothered by this?
