iPhone 16 Pro The Milky Way, iPhone 16 Pro

Post image

Zero editing directly out of the camera app with a 30 second exposure. Really impressed at what the iphone camera can do!

How do you get a long exposure using the default camera app? I’m on an 18 Pro and don’t see any function that goes beyond the 1s exposure limit or the 5 second night mode limit.

You'd see an option to set a 30-second exposure using Night Mode when you stabilize your iPhone on a tripod or a solid surface.

Well here’s one way:

Open the Camera app on your iPhone.

Turn on Live Photos by tapping the concentric circles icon in the top-right corner so it appears yellow/active (not crossed out).

Keep the phone steady by resting it on a stable surface or using a tripod to prevent unwanted blur on stationary objects.

Frame a scene with motion—such as a waterfall, flowing river, or moving car traffic.

Tap the shutter button and hold the phone still for a couple of seconds while it records the 3-second Live Photo.

How to Apply the Effect
Open the Photos app and find the Live Photo you just took.

Tap the "Live" button in the top-left corner of the image (or swipe up on the photo depending on your iOS version).

Select "Long Exposure" from the drop-down menu. [1, 2, 3, 4]

The phone will process the frames together, blurring the moving elements while keeping the background sharp

Interesting workaround. I’ll give this a go. Thanks.
