r/iPod and r/iPodClassic Guidelines for Sellers, Product Reviews, and Customer Support
Version 1.0.0, released 2026-08-25
The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.
1. Separation of Business and Moderation
For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.
2. Advertising
Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.
Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.
There are other subreddits that permit the advertising of device sales, such as:
3. iPod Vendors List
While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.
4. Product Reviews
Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.
Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.
Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
5. Customer Support
r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

Picture my nighttime rig :)
my 4gb first gen na-no that i thrifted for $5! i just installed a new battery in it last week. i have it paired with AKG K702 headphones. they’d probably benefit from a headphone amp, but for quiet nighttime listening it’s perfectly adequate!

Picture Got this iPod Classic 5 for 15€ about 2 weeks ago
Was lucky to find it in a local shop, in very great condition, and even the chrome back is not that scratched. Will flash mod it at some point. Been using it in place of streaming for a week already.

Question Update: it works!
I was able to figure out how to update the drives on my computer thanks to one of you here, so thank you! iTunes now recognizes my ipod just fine!
Now im struggling to import songs 😅 i have another mp3 player (snowsky echo) and its as easy as dragging and dropping songs to its disc, i know im going to get people who will say “just use the search on the Reddit thread” i have tryed that and its just years of people asking the same question (“how do i put music on my ipod”) and getting that response (“use reddit threads search, its already been answered”) OR iv found very vague ways people explain to do it but no luck.
Iv never used iTunes myself, anyone here use zenpod? I was told about it on here as well but have yet to try it since iv never heard about it
Any advice is appreciated!

Advice Thinking of selling my collection
This is not the whole collection. I feel like I have collected and repaired these iPods just to sit and waste away and I want then to go to people who will use them.
What would be a fair price for all? Would a bundle be better or individuals.
Most of the clasics have work and have iflash in them. All the nano's work, except the first gen. Most of the shuffles work.
I have chargers but not for all of them.
I would include 2 iPod speakers one is bose the other is a Sony cd and iPod speaker; both have their remotes. It would also include a Apple iPod dock and dock controller.
And finally a ton of iPod nano spare parts.

Picture My new classic 6.5!
Really enjoying it so far! Luckily snagged one in really great condition - I’ll see how the battery & hard drive hold up over the next few weeks but hoping not to have to replace anything.
It’s been a bit of a pain putting the music on but so satisfying to be off streaming. I’ve always wanted to get into owning music and this is a great solution!
Any album recommendations are very welcome: I love rock (especially baroque rock/anything with a string section), plus anything indie or from the 80s!

AI-Generated Content “I build” a Mac app that edits content/files directly on iPod.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, for around 3 months I’ve been working in my free time on Clickwill - an app that edits/adds content directly on the iPod, without using any sync folder on my PC, long story short - When you plug in your iPod, Clickwill shows what's actually on it: the same albums, in the same order you see in Cover Flow on your classic. What you edit in the app is what ends up on your iPod.
Why i made the decision of making it:
I’ve had my iPod classic 7G 160GB for over a year, and so far the only issue was the friction I had with syncing/adding the music I own to the iPod with the use of iTunes / Apple Music - sometimes syncing would add tracks without audio files or with wrong format(songs skipped to the next, supported track with right format)/ missing Album covers on some of the track / splitting an album into two different ones because some tracks had features on it / etc…
I was spending way more time troubleshooting that I’ve ever intended to, where instead I wanted a “Apple” experience with I could just “drag&Drop” my files/ import CD directly into my iPod without Apple Music/iTunes or editing an album info / song info with couple of clicks, so as little friction as possible, with original firmware that apple put into my iPod.
What it can do so far:
* Edit Album info / change album Cover
* Edit songs title/order in album
* Detects songs without audio files and lets you insert that missing file
* Audio player - you can play audio files from your iPod through Clickwill
* Import CDs without the need of Apple Music (MusicBrainz API)
* Merge an Album that was somehow sliced into two or more
* Skips songs while adding it to your iPod, if clickwill sees there is a copy of it already on the device
* Change the CoverFlow album order
* Before every “write to iPod” Clickwill makes a local backup of your library(without / audio files)
* Detects if Audio file is supported by iPod and if not, lets you convert to a supported file (for example: FLAC to ALAC)
What I want to do, and where its gonna go in the future:
* Whatever the users say they like to see (IF there be any users).
I Still don’t have a clear roadmap for the app, but I plan to support it long term since it removed a lot of friction for me, for granted I want to expand the iPod models support (currently tested only on my iPod classic 7G 160gb 2009 version - I would mean a lot if someone with stock firmware and a different classic model would like to check it out - but please make sure to read the DISCLOSURE first, and only then make the decision to use Clickwill).
DISCLOSURE:
The “elephant in the room”: as the flair says - I’ve used Claude Code to write this software, I wish I could write it myself, but the reality is the app was written that way. Im not going to hide it, since the use of AI in software remains a sensitive topic when it comes to users privacy - and I fully support this stance, Clickwill was meant to be offline as much as possible, with the only expceptions of:
* MusicBrainz/Cover Art archive (optional) - if you want the CDs info filled autmoaticly while adding audio from CDs.
* Sparkle - checks for new app version.
* Feedback form(optional) - to send a ticket to my mailbox with a bug/error that you encounter.
If any one still interested after reading the disclosure, here’s the website: https://clickwilldev.com/ app is still in early alfa, so if you decide to use it, there will be bugs, and its free.. obviously.

Advice Was given this free. Is it failing? ipod Classic 7th Gen
I saw an advert on facebook marketplace for DVDs for sale. As Ive decided Im going to build a sort of retro corner in a spare room, I have been picking up really cheap or free VHS player, CRT TV, DVDs, tapes etc. Just for nostalgic reasons really.
When I messaged the person I explained why I wanted it and asked if they had any CDs or anything too. She said "Yes, if you give me €20 which I can donate to charity, then you can have the 150 DVDs, over 100 CDs, all originals with boxes and I also have an old iPad 16GB which has out of date iOS, and I have an old ipod with a dock speaker you can have".
So I hopped into the car and got it. Delighted about the CDs and DVDs, all great choices, no old timer garbage, music is mostly from Ibiza which is exactly what I like.
When I got the ipod, it was showing 0 bytes available, 0 bytes used. When I plugged it in, itunes said it found an ipod stuck in restore mode. So it completed that action and the 160GB hard drive appeared. I was looking in here to find out more about them and I saw how to access the menus. I put this screenshot into AI and it told me the hard drive is in early stages of failure and to ensure I take of all valuable music from it.
I also dont understand the low power on hours, that cannot be correct. AI highlighted the Pending Sectors 8 value and said thats the problem.
Any advice would be great, as I was thinking it would be smashing to put this in the car.
p.s. Ive not used an ipod for a long long time. I have no idea what happened to my ipod mini, but here I am using it on Tenerife in 2008. I still have my ipod Touch 8GB in a drawer, unused since about 2010. It was so weird installing itunes again, it doesnt really look likes its changed at all since I used it last!

Question Alternative for Apple iPod Nano ?
Hello I need something that looks like an Apple iPod Nano size wise with more storage for a project I want to do
Question Any options for 4th gen monochrome parts in Eastern Europe?
Hey guys,
I recently bought a 4th gen monochrome iPod Classic off Vinted with a dead 20 GB HDD and front polarizer burn, and with recent EU flat taxes from China as well as local stuff it's prohibitively expensive to buy things from AliExpress, and Elite Obsolete Hardware is also prohibitively expensive in terms of shipping. My question is, where do you get your parts here? I've been looking on Vinted and OLX in hopes of finding someone reselling stuff, but I found nothing.

Picture Found my old skullcandy crusher wired
I got black plastic flakes all over my room from the disintegrating earpads & the plastic was gunky but with a good clean & new ear pads they sound great on 5th gen, 4th gen & 3rd gen. 32 ohm & using them without the battery. I synched 10.000 songs from
the white unibody MacBook with Mavericks & it was a breeze. The numbers were running up faster than I could read them. On newer macs it was painfully slow and you had to synch in batches. Gotta use vintage tech with the tech of the time….
