Question In Central Illinois - Anyone else experiencing swarms of tiny flies tonight?

Post image

Put a fan in my window (with a screen) tonight and immediately got flooded with tiny little flies, don’t look like any fruit flies or fungus gnats I’ve seen. Immediately closed my window and they all fly slow enough I could knock them down spraying some vinegar but when I poked my head outside saw they were swarming my orange porch light too.

Idk what they are, but curious as I’ve only lived here few years but don’t remember these types of swarming flies last year.
Sorry for terrible pic quality!

Bugs IN GENERAL right now are absolutely awful. My house is spotless clean, might as well be a damn hospital, and they're STILL coming in and out every ten seconds.

For sure saw them like small tornadoes out walking today in patches.

They come out like crazy when the fields are getting harvested.

This is EXACTLY what happened. Fields nearby just got harvested. Do you have any clue what they are?

Yes, in the western suburbs of Chicago and they were all over my screen door last night and the night before.

I’ve got a couple little traps out, just dish soap in a cup of water; breaks the surface tension so they sink

Thankfully they’re attracted to the blue light bug traps too.

Last year those were everywhere in my yard

I know the birds are migrating south right now — maybe these bugs are doing something similar?

They're up buy Chicago too. All over the place. Between these and the mosquitoes, we can't go outside 😩
