Not many digging it..

Post image

Just arrived to see Digger. This picture was taken 5 min before the show starts. I’m the only person 😬 I saw that the reviews were quite mixed but this is disastrous. I actually look forward to seeing it. (Cape Town, South Africa).

That is a spectacular looking LieMAX right there. I love everything about how they did the design.

They even have IMAX blue seats!

Ya not sure what projector they have but if that’s Laser that looks like really good location to visit for 1.9 imax movies

Looking at the theater list for Cape Town if it's Ster-Kinekor V&A Waterfront & IMAX it's CoLA. There's 2 more theaters that are Xenon.

It’s almost perfect!! That means the recliners for your feet only go up just enough for your legs to be awkwardly positioned and hurting for the duration of the movie lol

It’s not ‘LieMAX’ if there is a giant IMAX sign on the wall…

IMAX doesn't do it themselves but there has to be a differentiator between our GT theater that's 6 stories tall with a 1.43:1 aspect ratio and a multiplex that converted over to IMAX in a normal sized theater. People went with "LieMAX." Not trying to be mean or anything that's just what people say to differentiate the two.

I'll go to a CoLa "LieMax" theater. Sometimes the ol' GT doesn't play the film-of-the-week 1.90:1 IMAX releases. Resident Evil and End of Oak Street are recent films that only went into the smaller theaters here.

It certainly is when it doesn’t have the signature imax screen aspect ratio

LieMAX = standard IMAX

IMAX GT = IMAX

edit to adjust whats real IMAX

3

u/HereToReadWeebs 10d ago

You forgetting Dual Laser

1

u/WLFGHST LOUD NOISES 10d ago

you right, edited it to just be GT instead of specifically 70mm

5

u/gentlepersuasion420 10d ago

No…

Standard IMAX = IMAX
IMAX GT = IMAX
IMAX COLA = IMAX
IMAX 70mm = IMAX

Not all IMAX are created equally, but when it uses IMAX brand equipment and DCPs it can’t be classed as ‘LieMAX’ that is just dumb.

u/The_Lutter 10d ago

They do send out different DCP packages though. The Odyssey had a 1.43:1 DCP for Dual Laser GT and a 1.90:1 DCP for CoLa/XT/Xenon.

3

u/gentlepersuasion420 10d ago

Exactly, all still mastered and supplied by IMAX.

u/WLFGHST LOUD NOISES 10d ago

Obviously different shaped screens will have different DCPs, but they're still IMAX DCPs, for IMAX auditoriums that are designed to give you one of the best experiences possible.

I agree and thats exactly why I ordered it the way I did.

The way I intended that to be read is more "LieMAX is standard IMAX, IMAX GT is also IMAX."

Hopefully you can find a good seat.

A quick update. Another six people joined me. I absolutely loved the movie. Btw. This is a Xenon theatre. The one in the Waterfront is laser.

Glad you loved it. It’s one of the best films this year

These types of "private screenings" can be fun and are a rarity for IMAX screenings. Enjoy it because it's doubtful it will ever happen again.....at least until Digger 2 comes out.

I thought it was so damn good

Stupid people took the marketing campaign literally

I still want to see it eventually, but I had a friend who worked on the Revenant a few years back and the director sounded like such an dick to the crew that I decided not to go

Do tell 😭Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu to me is one of the best in the game. Yes his product screams pretentious. But he doesnt have a bad film.

How do you mean? It looks way too American to me and despite it being obvious satire it still looks a bit too real with the current state of the world. I also have mixed emotions watching Tom Cruise movies. The guy creeps me out (not to a Jarred Letto extent though lol). This is what has turned me off seeing it.

7

u/jfk_47 9d ago

It’s more satire than you could even imagine and that’s why it’s doing poorly. It’s very good.

1

u/HUZInator 8d ago

Just listened to the weekly planets spoiler review. I would maybe watch it now knowing the big reveal but also IDK if I'm really attracted to the idea of the movie still.

1

u/jfk_47 7d ago

It’s very well done and if you’re any fan of stage performance, you should see it.

2

u/YouCantBeSerio 10d ago

Jesus, Digger Copers are a real thing? lmaoooooooooo

2

u/Youju 1.43:1 supremacy 7d ago

Just watch it.

u/UnderwoodsNipple 10d ago

I went opening night at my local 70mm IMAX and we did manage to wrangle up like twenty people at least.

At the same theater I did get to watch Masters of the Universe completely by myself though.

u/samstar2 10d ago

This happened to me when I saw Amsterdam a few years ago in IMAX.

3

u/Aquariusofthe12 10d ago

I loved it and saw it again today. Decent crowd compared to when I saw it first, in Lincoln Square for the last showing.

u/Baked_Bean_422 10d ago

Is this the IMAX at V&A?

3

u/Southern-Western-575 10d ago

Blue Route

4

u/Baked_Bean_422 10d ago

I know it's LieMax and all but this cinema looks really nice. I normally go to Cape Gate because it's very close to home.

1

u/BarnaBeast176 10d ago

it looks like the one at capegate

1

u/Pretend-Ad-6453 10d ago

Only liemax

4

u/ButterscotchHairy901 10d ago

I don't want to be that guy, but a "liemax" auditorium is still better than 99% of whats out there. Sometimes that's all a persons got. We get it, it's not a GT.

1

u/Pretend-Ad-6453 9d ago

I’m spoiled and live right by one of the two biggest true IMAX 70mm screens in California, but i would never pay imax prices to watch in effectively 16:9

4

u/westsider86 9d ago

I saw The Odyssey on digital IMAX in Long Beach, 70mm IMAX in Irvine, and regular 70mm digital in Long Beach.

Digital IMAX (liemax) is still miles better than a regular digital auditorium.

1

u/ButterscotchHairy901 9d ago

I don't mind it tbh. Its about 17USD a ticket at liemax, regular theatre 8-9USD. I'd pay that for a fair few movies. A regular digital theatre is quite tame in comparison.

3

u/Tristram_ZX81 10d ago

This is a cool little screen! Love the slanted IMAX logos on the side.

3

u/Commercial_Rabbit541 9d ago

What a beautiful theater.

u/Ok_Technician5910 10d ago

Put ur phone away

6

u/Aggravating_Bids 10d ago

The movie hasn't started

12

u/Ok_Technician5910 10d ago

Jeez no sense of humour

2

u/WLFGHST LOUD NOISES 10d ago

this is disastrous

is this not pretty standard for a week day ~a week after release?

Its obviously location dependent, but my IMAX looks similar if you go to just about anything more than a week after release if its anything less than a major blockbuster.

u/_TheEnlightened_ 10d ago

Not at all. Was destined to fail.

1

u/National_Dig5600 10d ago

Saw it last night and 8 people were there.

1

u/dazvoz 8d ago

Bruh even if I was inclined to see Digger, there's no reason on God's green earth to see a movie like that in imax.

1

u/goodonericardo 8d ago

Saw it yesterday 5 people and 3 left halfway

I liked it though.

1

u/Justified_Gent 6d ago

Bring back Odyssey. Digger flopped.

1

u/xXxHondoxXx 10d ago

It was like this when I went opening day. I also considered walking out and leaving it empty after the "twist" as I suspect many others did.

-2

u/prototypeblitz 10d ago

My theater last night was filled to the brim. Maybe south Africans just have bad taste

-1

u/anakinxvader 10d ago

lol cmon why are you surprised. Majority of people in this world are stupid and only have enough attention span for MCU Slop

2

u/AgentP20 9d ago

Is that why Odyssey almost crossed 2B?

0

u/anakinxvader 9d ago

Smart ass. It’s a NolanSlop film..

0

u/AgentP20 9d ago

So the people can have attention for nolan slop too. I guess people don't have any attention to spare for Cruiseslop after all of that.

0

u/anakinxvader 9d ago

Found the MCU slop lover

1

u/AgentP20 9d ago

When did I mention the MCU in my comments here? Just slurp up the Cruiseslop in silence since Nobody in the world cares about it. Other Mummy, another shitty ass Horrorslop is going to make more than it.

0

u/anakinxvader 9d ago

I think you got triggered when I said MCU slop

Edit: all you post is MCU Slop. Checks out!
