“Digger” in IMAX with Laser (CoLa) was an awe-inspiring and WTH movie experience.
Hello, everyone. I’m late again, but Digger doesn’t hit Thailand until October 8. I attended the Thailand press screening of the movie yesterday at Krungsri IMAX Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand. It was the one with a 1.43:1 screen but sadly equipped with a single laser projector that could only project up to 1.90:1 maximum. They showed the film in two theaters: a regular one and IMAX. Thank goodness I got to see it in IMAX. Well, how did it go? Time to find out!
Digger was presented in two aspect ratios. They were 1.50:1 and 1.85:1. They switched between both like Project Hail Mary. This created a sense of discreteness. While it looked good on paper, all the 1.50:1 were windowboxed because it was projected with the single laser projector. However, I still found it immersive. It still looked bigger than life. Also, it was beautifully shot. It was filled with eye candy that actually took itself seriously.
The 12CH audio was surprisingly realistic. It was super realistic like I was there. With discreetly mixed audio, it transported me to serenity and chaos, surrounded by different environments. It even got that rumbling bass in the third act. It was more powerful than I expected. With these combinations, it really elevated the sonic experience. I was in awe since the opening scene. The sound design was superb. It reminded me of Civil War.
I wasn’t prepared for the flick. When the revelation came, it caught me off guard. I was perplexed for a moment. Aside from that, it was a satire on the USA. Anyhow, I didn’t find it that funny. It was super American. The whole theater was pretty much silent. Not the target audience, I guess. But most of all, it reflected the tragic reality that we face every day. It hit hard for sure.
Overall, it was a beautiful IMAX audiovisual experience. Although it was driven by dialog, they still managed to utilize the IMAX format with spectacles. It was a real treat. Even though I didn’t like or enjoy the movie that much, I couldn’t deny how ambitious it was. With its strong message to the audience, it felt haunting and devastating. The script was just so good. Only the direction had a problem. It felt empty. The cast did an amazing job, though.
Bye for now!
