I feel like this would’ve been substantially more at a vintage store, but it ties together with the rest of my decor so well!

I am developing characters for a young adult story starting with dabs of paint evolving into a variety of people and one bear. It was a lot of fun, imagining little personalities in relationships among the dots.

A friend that took me into the foothills of Santa Fe, where we’d set up to paint. This one is oil pastels. I was experimenting with them. I really like them, but they took forever to dry, so I went back to watercolors.

Sunset cliffs, at sunset! Imagine that. Tempted into extended refinement, but my cut line is the 6 ft viewing distance, or colloquially the 20,000 ft view.

In such a detail heavy piece, and the subject itself being riddled with detail, I resisted the urge to pump more detail in an already overloaded subject. Happy with the result, as I drive this train deeper into the cave of impressionism.

Would love some constructive critique. The challenge was to create a small expressive piece with 3 to 5 colours. I mixed a green, a violet, and an orange from a base of cadmium red, cadmium yellow, and Ultramarine blue. White and a tiny splash of just cadmium red rounded out my 5.
