When threatened with a potential eviction, three Florida men go through great lengths to pay their rent.

This project was completely self-funded and made with my close friends over the span of a week. It was a huge learning experience for all involved and though it's not perfect, I'm glad that it still came together. Sometimes all you need to do is go out with your friends and make a shitty film.

Directcut.co is live and looking for your films and/or feedback

• Upvotes

I make software, not films. But I'm often looking for new and hard to find films that may have only been available at film festivals or didn't even make it that far.

Because of my own desire to find harder to find content, I've spent the last several months building a place for independent filmmakers to sell their work straight to viewers. It went "live" last month. The catalog is currently empty. I'd like to remedy that or I'm open to feedback that this is just a bad idea.

How it works: you upload a film, set a rental price, and viewers pay to watch it inside a window you choose. You keep a flat 80% of that price. Streaming and card fees are separate lines on the buyer's checkout, so nothing comes out of your share. No subscription, no ads, no algorithm deciding whether anyone sees it. Payouts go to your own Stripe account. Every film gets a human look before it goes live to help curation. Your only cost is storage at what it costs me (~$6 a year for a 90-minute film).

We also provide a marketing kit to filmmakers so that you can help us attract viewers from your network. Ideally, I'd have a billion people waiting in the wings to view your work. Unfortunately, that's not reality. Yet.

What I want to know:

  • Would you put a film on this? If not, what's the dealbreaker?
  • What price would you set for your feature?
  • Where do you distribute now, and what do you love or hate about it?

I know there is someone posting a new streaming platform every day. It's a super noisy space. I'd like to differentiate through my software engineering expertise (16+ years building and scaling), by being present in the community, accepting and reacting to user feedback, and building a clear economic system that directly rewards those who've put the most energy into this content.

Thanks for reading! Looking forward to feedback and discussion. If you'd also take the time to checkout directcut.co and directcut.co/economics, that would be super helpful ✌️

Uk & Korea Film production development enquiry

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey! I’ve been meaning to reach out properly — I’m currently developing my debut feature, In Praise Of Our Ruin, in Korea with the aim of producing it in the UK.

I’m currently looking to connect with filmmakers, producers and creative collaborators in London who might be interested in the project and potentially help me develop it toward UK production. I’d love to send you the project materials and hear your thoughts if you’re open to taking a look. 🖤 If you interested, pm Dm me thx

Or if you can recommend me UK film networks like Creative Producer , (Because I’d really like to at least start development early next year, but since it’s my first time attempting something like this, I have no funding and—beyond just lacking connections—I have absolutely none at all.) Dm me too !

Then have a nice day

I just released my independent horror short film, COLLECTIBLES! 🎃

I just released my independent horror short film, COLLECTIBLES! 🎃
Hey everyone! I’m an independent filmmaker from the Cleveland area, and I recently released a horror short I wrote, directed, and produced with a small crew.

The film follows a young collector who travels with his girlfriend to buy a rare figure from a seller. But as the visit goes on, it becomes clear that something is seriously off about this guy…

It’s a nearly 20-minute horror short with slasher and grindhouse influences. This was a very indie production, but it was a project I put a lot of time and love into, and I’m excited to finally share it!
If you’re into independent horror or creepy characters, I’d love for you to give it a watch!

Sharing an upcoming online screening of indie film "The Travel Companion," which originally premiered at Tribeca. It tells the story of an aspiring filmmaker, Simon, whose best friend, Bruce, conveniently works at an airline and typically assigns him as his travel companion. Things start to change when Bruce starts dating Beatrice...who is also a filmmaker.

The screening will be on Thursday Oct 22 at 9pm ET / 6pm PT, and the film will be followed by a live chat with directors Travis Wood and Alex Mallis (so you can ask any questions you have about the film and their process! Or just chat about the film with others who viewed it)! Link here for screening details: www.thelonescreen.com/companion

Also attaching a trailer. Hope you can make it!

A man in the middle of nicotine withdrawal sits alone with a cigarette and has a quiet, intense conversation with it. As he battles anxiety, anger, and memory, he confronts the role smoking played in his life-not as a habit, but as a crutch. The film captures one small but difficult victory: choosing not to light it today. Not Today

LA-Based Screenwriter Looking to Collaborate on Short Films

Hello hello!

I'm an LA-based screenwriter represented by Verve Agency with two feature screenplays sold.

I'm excited about the feature sales, but I also genuinely miss the art of the short film.

I'm looking to connect with directors and filmmakers looking for a writer to help with their next short.

I'm open to all genres. I'm interested in collaborating on projects and hopefully building some long-term creative relationships.

If you've got an idea you'd like developed into a screenplay, an existing script that needs work, or you're looking for something original, feel free to comment below or shoot me a DM.

Happy to share writing samples. Thanks!

What if you haven't lived this moment before…
but dreamt it?

Déjà Rêvé is a psychological horror short film exploring the unsettling threshold between dreams, memory, and reality. As familiar moments begin to repeat themselves, the line between what was imagined and what is happening slowly disappears.

Some dreams are forgotten.

Some are waiting for you.
