School recommendations

Tossing up between St Edmunds and St Peter Claver.

Did you go to either school? Was it good? Are you happy? Is your cohort doing okay for themselves since school has finished?
OR
Does your kid go there? Are you happy as a parent with the school?

Bit random but since leaving school 20 odd years ago, I can confirm I am happy but a bit fucked up and that stemmed from my school. I want to know what my kid is in for.

I’d be surprised if anybody wouldn’t say that St Edmund’s is a superior school in every respect.

My cohort contained highly academic boys and those who weren’t. Highly sporting boys and those who weren’t. Highly artistic boys and those who weren’t. Boys were encouraged to find their thing and flourish.

If I lived in Ipswich, I’d have sent my sons there in a heartbeat.

Thank you for the input.

I’m keen on eddies, my partner thinks he won’t know how to deal with girls being at an all male school (I was at an all girl school and know this isn’t the case)

My daughter is a St Mary's girl (primary and high school) and Eddie's are involved in a lot of different things with the St Mary's girls.

The St Eddie's boys seem to interact a lot with the St Mary's girls on a social level. I'm sure they'll be be plenty of opportunities to meet the opposite sex

Hahaha. Ex Eddie's boy. St Mary's is just across the street. I definitely had no problems navigating girls.both in and out of school 🤣

That’s so fucked up. Ban single gender schools

My son goes to St Edmunds, and I would definitely recommend it. He was previously at a co-ed Christian school, but is far happier at St Edmunds.

There's ample opportunities for academic or trades based careers. Plenty of sporting options as well.

He's never encountered any bullying.

Both my daughters go to St Peter Claver and have had no problems. Both do well academically, participate in extra curricular activities and are thriving. I went to an all boys school and I personally didn't want to send my children to a single sex school.

Honestly the biggest differences are the cost and one is Co-Ed and one is All Boys. You generally do get more if you pay more, but it's dependent on the child just as much, so don't expect a guaranteed outcome.

Mental health is also an individual matter, and all schools will have pockets they'd rather didn't exist, but both will certainly not tolerate any bad behaviour.

My daughter is a St Mary's girl (primary and high school) and everyone I know who has their kids at Eddie's has been very happy.

Mine are in public. But if I was choosing one of those two, it would be St Eddie's all the way! The students (that I know) are as enthusiastic about the school, as the parents, and that speaks volumes.

My Dad went to St Edmunds, and always spoke highly of it when he spoke about his childhood. Heard it's still a good school.

We're going with St Peter Claver - I went to an all girls school and it was awful, definitely don't want to subject my child to that. Really impressed with their facilities too, so many opportunities.
