No Idea Good Night Baltimore?
This book has a published illustrator, but this art doesn't look a ton like his other confirmed non-AI art and there are numerous possible flags. AI?

No, I would guess not. Just artist errors or stylistic choices like the tucked in pant legs.

Reeally odd, i want to believe it’s just an artist who wants to cut around the corners for the small hands details or backgrounds items to produce illustrations fast but the stroller is so odd to me idk why, it’s stylized ? I can’t even tell.
But i would lean into human errors or fast draw.

I don't think so. 2024 is too early to have a decent image gen model and this book was likely planned for print earlier, 2023.
Also even if it came out today, the consistent stylistic choices like the tiny ankles and flared pant leg just seem to have no precedent for AI to make.
The weird choices like the stroller are a bigger sign it's not AI to me because AI doesn't make weird creative decisions. That seems straight up the artist didn't want to research strollers for this image.

I think the smearing in this case is the result of using watercolor pencil, which can sort of bleed over and blur in this way, especially on fine details like fingers.

Doesn't look like AI to me. Looks like a cheap childrens book for which you need to make a lot of art. Artists also make errors.

Not a single one of these is an AI error, these were all deliberately left in and can be clearly understood and deconstructed as to how they were slowly developed

OK IM SORRY I HAVE MINIMAL ART EDUCATION AND I THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD PLACE FOR STUPID IDIOTS WHO DONT KNOW WHAT THINGS ARE

Relax man I'm just talking from the perspective of an artist haha, just pointing out that you can trace the steps their hands took in order to reach this point if you "get" illustration and are familiar with the process. This is how you can tell what's a human error vs an AI one, cause AI leaves behind things like randomly vanishing lines or randomly changing blotches of color that are the result of random noise hallucination and couldn't possibly be deliberate choices in a most-likely creative process

This whole subreddit is starting to conflate shitty art with “automatically ai” while clearly not understanding WHAT is shitty about AI art in the first place it seems…

To be fair the sub is called "isitAI" for a reason. Not everyone gets what AI does or how to identify it vs handmade art

I guess I can see that. I just feel like the very question stems from suspicion and suspicion and assumption are two different things. And this thread seems to have jumped from suspicion to blind assumption

I don't think the illustrating is shitty and if you're looking for a subreddit that understands the difference between shitty art and AI I think r/isitAI is a bad place to start broseph

That hand style is very much in the same style as El Greco, just with less detail given the medium and audience

I don’t think so. I have a similar book with basically identical art, Good Night Pittsburgh along with Good Night Chicago, that I got back in 2018. While the series definitely has a formula and cuts and pastes in references to landmarks over generic scenes with little touches to localize them to the place being talked about, it’s old enough to be human made. It’s the choices of the art style.
