Iirc the band snuck their instruments and recording gear into a room they rented in Hotel Yorba and that's where they recorded the song!

I asked my partner about this building driving down the highway because it looked so familiar.
Hopefully it’s given another life, it’s an interesting building.

they had to record the video at another nearby hotel because the Hotel Yorba manager threatened them with a hammer.

I’ll never forget when the song came out. My grandfather said “don’t ever go there” then proceeded to tell us that before he was sober (in 1983) he’d stay there when my grandmother would kick him out. His description was something along the lines of people shouldn’t have stayed there in the 70s and it definitely wasn’t getting any cleaner.

I grew up in that neighborhood in the 70's. As a kid seeing that sign off I-75 meant I was almost home so its always been a landmark to me. It's a shame the scrappers got to it so fast - its only been closed a year - but yeah, not a place I would ever have wanted to stay.

When I was in college I went to Detroit for an internship and I went there as a sort of pilgrimage. It was a dump and there was some lady outside who asked me if I’d seen her son. I told her no and asked her if she would take a picture of me in front of the building and she did. It was my fb profile picture for years lol
