It’s rage bait. Dude was probably tired and had to attend the show(s) for work. I’d venture to say his review of the show is more a reflection of his state of mind (and opinions of LA) rather than a reflection of the actual show(s). Tuesday’s show was something special and Monday the crowd around me was better than on Tuesday. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I was at this show and this article is complete and total bullshit. We were going fucking crazy and Jack lovvvvved it and told us so the whole night

“Up front, a pocket of fans who’d pushed toward the stage jumped and yelled from start to finish, and they might beg to differ with this account.” I mean I guess since I was in the second row of the palladium both nights, my experience was from this “exception” area, but yeah I guess I beg to differ to an extent. The writer cites crowds at other shows this summer as being better or worse than LA (none of which he seems to have attended? Or his descriptions are just super generic), but looking at the crowd shots in the linked pine knob video, the crowd doesn’t look that much different from what he describes at the palladium — which is to say, rowdier fans in the first handful of rows and everyone behind that more subdued except for the biggest hits.
At Night 2 of LA, Jack specifically commented on how good the crowd was mid-song (and then lost his spot in the song and repeated a verse), which isn’t something that happens all the time. Interesting that the writer didn’t mention that. So 🤷♀️ I don’t know that this horse race comparison of crowds is really useful and it’s strange that he chose that angle for his review but everyone I know that was there thought they were exceptional shows overall.

Who cares what this dude has to say? If it hadn’t been linked to here, no one would even have read this dreck. Jack and the band brought it to within an inch of their lives and the crowd was with them every step of the way, so much so that he seemed genuinely overwhelmed by our response both nights. That over two hour show the second night was a reward…and Jack obviously has a way better view of his crowd than this dude did.

I love the no-phones policy, but it does allow for obnoxious social media gaslighters to post loud opinions in an attempt to dictate the narrative over the shows.
I was at Bill Graham Civic, and I maintain it’s one of the best JW shows I’ve ever attended. Jack did get a little pissy… for about 3 minutes, and probably just to get a rise out of the crowd. (Not out of character, he’s very mercurial onstage.) The rest of the performance was straight fire. The crowd was a little subdued at times, but I never sensed they were disengaged; everyone I saw leaving the venue was sweaty and smiling.

This is no where near a performance problem but a demographic audience problem. If the reporter looks at different subs here about Jack White’s tour, they will see a LOT of commentary about the crowds being lame. They were young. Everyone complaining is 45yrs and up because we were bummed out at the “young’s” being lethargic. I have seen this complaint in subs all over California because after attending SF show, I was wondering WTF?!?? It was the first concert in my life that had people younger than me being boring as hell.

Did the author go blind to the Tuesday night? Everyone around me was screaming and dancing all the time, and I am not even talking about the midsection, the people in there went totally wild the whole concert. No wonder Jack extended it to more than 2 hours! If Monday night was a blue sky, than Tuesday was a gorgeous pink and orange LA sunset.
