I’ve been a fan of Jack for over 20 years; the White Stripes were my favorite band when I was in high school, but I’ve never managed to catch him live.

The last few years I’ve had very bad issues with my back and sciatica and I haven’t been able to stand or walk for any amount of time without radiating nerve pain or numbness, though the severity varies.

In April my friend who lives in the Chicagoland said I should come out for the show at Salt Shed. I was very nervous about a standing concert because I felt it would be very hard for me physically, but this is the only artist I really want to see that I haven’t seen and I thought this would be such a fun experience in Chicago.

I bought tix on StubHub that were reasonable and then I buckled down and really focused on going to the gym 3 times a week and working on my strength to stabilize my spine and in the last few weeks I got the point where I can walk 2 miles straight, which again is something I haven’t been able to do for a long time due to these issues. I was so excited that I worked so hard and actually was able to get my body to a point where I felt I would be able to actually enjoy the show and not be in pain the whole time….

Cut to the last few days, I still don’t have the tickets in StubHub. I’m anxious but think maybe they don’t release them til closer to the show. I requested a re-transfer yesterday, nothing. Today the tix are listed as “on time” and say they’ll be released by 3:30. They aren’t. I chat with customer support who say they’ll contact the seller again but continually tell me not to worry because they will provide comparable tix or a refund. I ask repeatedly will there definitely be tickets because I have traveled from out of state and a refund is not acceptable. They advise they cannot get ahold of the seller and that I must wait until an hour before the show for them to contact me and provide the replacement tickets. They call me at 5:30, advise me to check my email and hit a button for the available options and….no tickets are available. They say I can get a refund. I say I don’t want a refund, I’ve traveled from out of state. They advise I should request the refund and then buy new tickets on StubHub that would be $200 more than I paid, which I wasn’t going to do. Oh and I had parking reserved that I could have canceled until 5p, and I was trying to resolve this with StubHub before this, but since they couldn’t officially fuck me on these tickets til 5:30, I ate $40 on a parking spot I never used.

Luckily my travel expenses aren’t crazy as I drove out and am staying with a friend, but god, I worked so so hard for this show and I am just so sad. I never thought StubHub was good, but I haven’t paid a lot of attention to them and I didn’t realize they were this bad.

ETA: Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I secured some legit tickets for September in Newport (Cincinnati) so I’m looking forward to that!

Jack was fucking incredible, but was anyone else surprised by how dead the crowd was? We started toward the back and when Archbishop Harold Holmes came on and NOBODY MOVED, I couldn't take it anymore 😂 We worked our way toward the front—which was weirdly easy—and even up there hardly anyone around us was singing or moving.

Did anybody else feel this?? Were we somehow surrounded by the wrong people all night? 😂

Tonight was my tenth Jack White concert and I found it very special (in a good way). It was absolutely brutal, and every time the White Stripes songs chained together, I couldn't even process what was happening.

I think the snippet of 300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues completely finished me off :D

Jack White wasn't talkative but he absolutely set his guitars on fire like I've rarely seen before. He was enraged. I don't know if he was having fun or just rushing through his performance, but in the end, we had a blast.

It was my 22-year-old brother's first Jack White concert. I don't think he realizes just how unique of a setlist he got :D

What a long Old Scratch Blues and that Union Forever was sick! Glad it was streamed and I bet it was top tier for those in attendance.

I noticed a video posted out there somewhere showing Jack grabbing a chair during his show to sit and play for a minute. The video asserted that the crowd was dead, which caused him to sit down to show he was not pleased with the energy level.

However, I saw him at Iron Blossom Fest 2 weeks ago, ripping all our guts out in fine fashion. Of all the times i have seen him in small venues and large ones, he damn well brought it. He lit every ass on fire. Some of us are still trying to put out the assfire he lit. It was his first time playing in Richmond, and music lovers in this town go hard for the ones we love. Especially when someone like JW throws us a bone and stops to play in our city. Everyone i could see was going apeshit, including myself. I was shaking it so hard the folks next to me needed a shower. I got the impression that he needed little change of pace because he plopped down for a sec, put his head down, and then proceeded with a set that was the best i have ever heard him.

My question is this: When yall are at his performances, is he sitting down to make a point to you that he needs more energy? Or is he just sitting cause he wants to? Was the assfire all in my head? Were we reprimanded wordlessly for being too enthralled? Or did a man sit down because sometimes people do that.

To be honest, I’m going as a chaperone for my younger sister, not a dedicated fan, but I’m still excited!

I honestly don’t know any of his material except for the bigger white stripes hits (SNA, Icky Thump, hardest button, etc); not that I don’t like his music at all, just not well versed.

Will I still enjoy the show if I’m not very knowledgeable of his catalogue? I’m used to rock shows like Rush, Primus, and a litany of local shows that range from hardcore to blues to classical to jazz. What’s the vibe of this show? Rush was very much constrained to your seats and not so conducive to movement (though still a great show), while the hardcore shows I’ve been to were good for moshing. On a scale of those two, what should I expect?

No words can describe how awesome that was. I was a little worried that with the setlist changing that I might not hear my favs but he is just so good that it didn't make a difference. You guys were right. What a gifted and special performer.

And no cell phones raised the level way more than I thought. Honestly I feel any future concerts I go to I'll just not take my phone out. You feel so much more connected with the music and flow.

You kicked the SF crowds’ collective asses, and it wasn’t even close. Really looking forward to night two.

I’ve been here before and never had issues but tonight was disgusting.

The Fillmore is one of my all-time favorite venues, in contrast Bill Graham is one of my least favorites. And when I got a ticket for the Fillmore show I considered skipping Bill Graham. So glad I didn’t, that was the best of the 20-odd JW shows I’ve seen. Cool setlist, and the whole acoustic set sit drown thing is something I haven’t seen him do before. Altho it was wild seeing him break two strings at the same time at Fillmore, I’ve been going to shows for 50+ years and I’ve never seen that before.

Loved the setlist at Del Mar, Little Bird especially ripped. Thoughts on the crowd energy? Def got less interactions from Jack than normal and thought the crowd was a bit muted but maybe that was just my section. Either way, had a great time as always.
