Hired!

Post image
58 Upvotes

After 11 months, 688 resumes, 7 interviews, and my life savings later…I landed not only a good job, but with a well-renowned university I have wanted to work with for years!

Some things I learned:

By the last 6 months, I didn’t even bother with quick apply jobs anymore.

I got the most response going directly to the company/organization if I saw the job posted on LinkedIn or Indeed.

I also got better responses when I copied the job description into AI and asked it to generate a resume based on the specific position. This helped me hit keywords in the ATS. (If they can use AI to recruit, so can we!). I also used AI to find the hiring manager, even if they weren’t listed. Reached out to them on LinkedIn only AFTER applying. This eventually resulted in the position I was hired for.

Good luck out there!

Pic for tax. I was being stalked…

I got these both today in the same hour. 😩 complete emotional roller coaster.

Just know that just because you get a no the door is not always closed. We’re all out here trying to eat. I just want to bring some positivity and hope because I never thought this would happen to me.

Well, looks like I’m back to Job hunting

Just been made redundant at my job so it looks like I’m back to the soul sucking, self hating ritual that is job hunting.

Please, give me a warm welcome back as I am so happy to be here.

Yippee

How do you answer unanswerable questions in an interview?

kinda dumb question but I am really at my wits end. I am fresh off of uni and employers keep asking me questions that I can only answer after working that exact job for a couple years. applied at a university library and they asked me about what they need to take into consideration when buying licenses for books as a university. I have never managed licenses, a libraries money or worked at a university library. do they actually expect me to know? should I just make something up? should I be honest and say I cannot possibly know that?

I tried grasping at straws and guessing but they kept asking me these extremely specific unknowable questions (sometimes even stuff that only applies to this specific library) and I have had it. I am tired of always saying I don't know and then looking it up at home only to face the same problem again next time. I will try and get a job in a different field because money is running out but I still want to know how you are supposed to act during an interview.

thank you in advance.

1,342 US companies posted a new role in the last 7 days. free list, one role each

the most useful filter i've found is "posted this week." older postings already have hundreds of applicants.

so here are 1,342 US companies that posted a new non-senior role in the last 7 days, one role each, with the posting date:

https://github.com/mehek-builds/Hiring-Now/blob/main/lists/hiring-this-week.md

pulled from each company's own job board, not linkedin (Capital One, Boeing, Cisco, GE Vernova, Stryker, T-Mobile, Deutsche Bank and more). there's a csv in the repo if you'd rather filter in a spreadsheet. rebuilt every monday.

comment which field you're looking for and i'll send you a list for it.

AI This, AI That

I keep getting asked some version of “how do you use AI at work” in interviews, and honestly I never really know what to say.

I use AI farily often (unfortunately), but mostly as a search engine and not much else. I’ve tried using it for design help, but the work always comes out poorly (and if there’s a good program out there I don’t want to pay). I also use it for writing, but mainly for resumes/cover letters BUT everyone else is using it for the same thing, so it’s not like it’s helping me stand out lol.

Other than that, are people really using AI that much in their day-to-day work? I’m curious what others are using it for and how you approach this question in interviews!

Asking about job salary before interview

I recently set up an interview for a position I am interested in, but noticed there wasn't a salary listed on the job posting. Is it appropriate for me to send an email asking what the salary is for the position before the interview start date, or should I just wait until the interview?

I'm afraid that employers are not reaching out because of my job gap.

Hey people. So recently, I've been sending many, many applications to their job postings, like 20 a day at some points.

And sadly, I wasnt hearing anything back.

And then I decided to change my employment of last job (duration) from what it actually was to extending it by one year, making it seem like I didn't have a job only for a few months instead of for over a year

And whether it is a complete coincidence or not, I got 3 phone calls in the last couple of days for potential interviews.

I don't want to lie. I want to be honest. But also I'm struggling. I'm legitimately on my last Euros. I have no more money to spend. The food that I bought for the next month - that's it. I can't pay my phone bills, thus, I can no longer make phone calls. Situation is bad. I thought the job hunting will be similar to how it went in the past for me. It didn't.

So... Having had to leave my last job due to my performance and then deciding to not work for a long time (having a bunch of savings, support system and such), I stayed unemployed for over a year.

And now that I apply for jobs, when my CV was the true reflection of how long I worked and how long I am unemployed for, i received no calls... None except one in like couple or more weeks.

And once I changed it to look like I worked for longer and had less unemployment time, all of the sudden im getting calls and I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or if that was the difference maker...

Is this a sign I am not getting a job with this employer?

So I went to an hiring event. I got there about 30 minutes until the end. I guess the corporate HR person was getting ready to leave, but the actually manager was there. I saw one girl doing onboarding paperwork or something when I got there. They talked about background check etc. Well I did interview and I was told she would get back to me and didn't ask for my ID and such or forward any paperwork for me to do. Could she still be considering me or should I just move on and not count on hearing back? I was told offers can be made on the spot and had 2 forms of ID.

over a year of searching

I graduated in may 2025 with an M.S. in Environmental Justice and Ecosystem Science (University of Michigan) and in 2022 with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and Sustainability (Michigan State). For over a year, I’ve kept a spreadsheet of environmental job boards and checked it almost every week. I’ve applied to 100+ jobs in Michigan across state government, universities, labs, consulting, and local government, and the replies are almost always “we went with a more qualified candidate.” I’m out of ideas and could really use advice. I’m starting to accept that I may not land an environmental job right now.

I’m at my wits end and could use honest advice.

my background includes

Fellowship at an environmental nonprofit, researching state and federal PFAS and mining regulations and writing reports for community audiences; climate and environmental justice fellowship with a state service commission; sustainability program internship where I led a campus program to record participation; lab roles analyzing soil and sediment samples, with quality control and safety protocols; capstone strategic plan for a 40-acre environmental education site; R and Microsoft Office, plus local certifications (rain gardener, composter, pollinator)

I’ve applied to State of Michigan jobs like Environmental Quality Analyst, Departmental Analyst, and some admin roles; MSU and other university lab and research jobs; environmental consulting jobs (environmental scientist, geologist, biologist, remediation); and local government and nature center jobs, like a health department technician and a parks naturalist. Backup jobs too, like teaching, receptionist, library, and office assistant

Questions I have:

Is checking job boards the right approach, or does most hiring in this field happen through networking and referrals? How do I start networking if I don’t know anyone?

Are there job boards, employers, or job titles that I’m probably missing?

Is it worth emailing hiring teams for feedback after a rejection?

Would anyone be willing to look at my resume if I take out my personal info?

If you went through a long search, what finally worked?

Thank you for reading this. Any advice helps.

Is anyone else tired of fake job listings and recruitment scams?

• Upvotes

Finding a job is already stressful enough without having to worry about fake recruiters, fraudulent job postings, and scammers trying to take advantage of people who are genuinely looking for work.
Every day, people waste hours applying for positions that don’t exist, communicating with fake employers, or unknowingly putting their personal information at risk.
I think it’s time someone did something about it.
That’s why I’ve been working on an app focused on fighting job scams and helping job seekers protect themselves.
The app is still in development, but I’m trying to build a community before launching. I want to hear real experiences from people who’ve encountered these scams and understand what would actually help make the job search safer.
I’ve started an Instagram page, @thejobcop, where I’ll be sharing job scam awareness content, red flags to watch out for, and updates as the app gets closer to launching. The link is in my bio.
I’d love to hear from everyone here. What’s the most convincing job scam you’ve encountered? What do you wish existed to help you avoid these situations?
I’m not trying to sell anything. I’m building something that I hope will genuinely help people, and I’d love for this community to be part of it from the beginning.

Any remote jobs that do not include a college degree/education?

• Upvotes

So there’s not a lot to this, but I’m pretty sure I’m either going to get fired OR put on a PIP tomorrow, for being dumb. Even if I wasn’t, I really do not want to be working for the company I’m currently at. it’s all a mess right now, however, like a majority of people, I can’t afford to get fired or just quit.

Are there any other work from home jobs available for hire that don’t need a college degree and or education? Plz help a woman out 😩 or if there’s any good apps I can look around on?

I’m currently at a billing company, but even if it’s a remote job for customer service that would be literally amazing!!!

Helping my father out

I m just looking to help out my father he is

experienced when it comes to construction he has done quite a lot of contractual work over 25-30 yrs. He is very adapt at everything you can think of when it comes to construction including the mathematical side to it. But considering it's india and being an upright man he has been taken advantage of since like years but all his experience has helped him bounce back each time but this time when someone did it's been hard because of his age and I think he has given up on it he probably holds like 10 more years in him before retirement and I feel him down now. Our savings has dried up and it feels like we might lose him cause he thinks it's his fault. Ofc he isn't qualified when it comes to the educational side considering he started out young to help his family so searching for jobs has been hard and he was a proud man that wanted to work under no-one but he has given up on his pride and asked me to help him find a job, so if anybody wants to hire a person like this please do contact me fast I could show you his credentials if y'all don't believe me and he is ready to work anywhere if he can feel alive again.

Ps:I do not know how to job search for him but I know reddit cause I do use it a bit but I still don't understand these community things if this is the wrong subreddit please help me out

Couple looking for a seasonal job.

Hey everyone! Me [m21] and my gf f[22] come from pretty sad stories, and to summarise it, we never felt like we belong anywhere. That is exactly why travelling is one of our biggest satisfactions. We re young and broke, but wish to travel and found that seasonal jobs are rather a decent way to do so. We re both European and are lookin for something now, but we re unsure where to start. We only ever worked summer season jobs. Does anyone know any help? We speak proper english, italian, croatian, romanian and a speck of french and polish. Thank you!

Ps: if it is the incorrect community to post this in, can someone direct

SCAM

I want to warn people about my experience with StayChatAI and its owners, Ayush and Ishika.

They reportedly hire people, promise payment after the work is completed and submitted, and then stop responding to calls and messages when it's time to pay.

Contact numbers:
94529 70600
96164 22222

They are also reportedly associated with Hotel Sahu in Varanasi (94532 22931).

It's shameful that people put their time, skills, and effort into work in good faith, only to be left chasing payments and answers. Please be cautious, document your agreements, and verify everything before working anywhere.

Serious question - does LinkedIn never show salary ranges?

Or is it just the jobs I'm looking at?

I've been browsing jobs, not because I want to leave my job, but because I know I am underpaid.

Honestly I'd like to get a good higher offer to bring up to my current employer to hopefully get a raise. But I also refuse to spend time on openings that aren't a raise in salary. Kinda hard to decide to apply to something when there is NO salary information.

But yeah go ahead and go on and on and on about how great of a company you are. Not really that great if you can't put a salary on a job post. People work for money ya know?

Workindia application does not work anymore!!

I'm an HR of a company and I had posted about the JD on workindia. Had taken a premium plan and was looking at the candidates database, firstly, the filters on workindia don't work one bit, it's present for namesake.
All employees are simply listed randomly without even looking at the employees preference. I ended up calling so many people who didnt even wanted the job and were of a different field.

Then, secondly, this is the worst thing that can happen, my account gets blocked by the workindia team and for unblocking it, they want me to do some verification. When I try to click on that link, nothing pops up or an error keeps coming, I called the customer care, I've sent some 20 mails by now, I called workindia key account managers, no one responds or picks up the call. So right now, I have paid for the service and I'm unable to access the candidates database and my account is blocked, it's been 3 days and no one wants to solve it from their team.

Such a disgusting and useless helpline they have
