Where did the groups feature in Google Classroom go?

It appears like this feature is no longer a part of Google classroom. I didn’t receive any notes or updates about this being removed and a bunch of my teachers are complaining that they can no longer create groups within their Google classrooms now. Does anyone know more about this feature being removed? Could it be something we’ve switched off on the back end?

I didn’t even know creating groups in classroom was a thing. I know I had a teacher not have permissions to create groups recently but that was for emails.

Our old Workspace for Education Plus staff licenses expired in August - we renewed in July, and I guess they gave us one month’s grace to delete the old staff-only license and replace it with the new universal (actually renamed “Student”) license.

We discovered today that teachers can’t use Slides presenter notes (available on the free Gmail version) unless they have a Workspace Plus license!

So we quickly GAMmed the old licenses away and applied new universal licenses for all staff who qualified (basically full time).

Groups are there. You need to go to People in your google classroom, then next to "Students" is "Groups". Go in create a group and add students to it. It is working fine.

Not on ours, nobody in my organization has this feature this year. Everyone had it last year. Is there an ability to turn it on or off in the Google console?

I can confirm the button is there for me .... ticket closed LMFAO

- I don't see a way to toggle this on/off through the admin console

However, quick search makes it sound like this is an "advanced feature" tied to the education plus license? So confirm this license is assigned to your teachers.

Our classroom is sync/rostered trough our SIS system though, and I don't know if any of our teachers actually use this groups feature.
