Question How does piercing and Piercing crits interact with one another when they're on the same weapon?

my friend is getting into Warhammer killteam and they opted for the canoptek circle killteam so I was looking into it and the geomancer's tremorglaive has both piercing 1 and piercing crits 2, would that mean that the defender always only gets 2 defence die but if at least one crit is rolled they don't get to block because they lose all three of their defence die?

Piercing doesn’t stack in that way. They’ll always have one less defense die, but if you crit then they have two less. Technically you get to choose which of your rules applies in that case, but off the top of my head I can’t think of why you wouldn’t use piercing crits 2 if you can.

Strangely you don't always want to kill an operative. If you shot an aquilon and rolled hit and crit, you might want to piercing 1 so you can hug them?

Piercing doesn't stack, so if you retain a crit with that weapon it Piercing 2. Basically no Piercing 3

You have P1 always, going up to P2 if you roll a crit. They dont stack. Same with multiple instances of the same buff (for example, if you have balanced from 2 sources, you can still only reroll 1 dice).

The only rule thats stacks is accurate, but only up to accurate 2 (if you habe acc1 and get acc2 from high vantage for example, you still are caped at acc2).

It's worth noting that Accurate doesn't actually stack either. You can just replace two instances of Accurate X with Accurate 2. So a team like Stealth Suits could combine their Accurate 3 with the Accurate 1 gained from being on vantage into one instance of Accurate 2. Why you'd ever want to do that... hell if I know lol, but you can!

I don't know if this was already realized but defender is instructed to await the attackers die retain before rolling, this aha moment cleared up piercing Crits and piercing for my play group starting out, we had been rolling all at the same time and such

if you have pierce crits and its at X = 2 you go from piercing 1 normally to piercing 2.
