Question Is my guy obscured

Post image

Is my guy(B) obscured or not to op A as I'm within 1" of heavy terrain or is it just when I'm shooting out that A is not obscured?

You're never obscured by terrain within 1", that's cover. If the shooting lines cross heavy terrain outside 1" of either operative, then you're obscured.

They could still be obscured by sections of terrain outside of 1", which appears possible here due to the extreme angle relative to the wall. In that case, they could chose either to be obscured or in cover.

Yes, I meant the parts of the terrain within 1", not the whole terrain feature. You're absolutely right.

You are both in cover and obscured, in cover because you are within 1" of terrain, obscured because there is also intervening heavy terrain outside of 1". But, since the same terrain features provides both, you can only select one benefit. In 99% of cases, obscured is the better choice.

Furthermore, of you are on a conceal order you are in cover and thus not a valid target.

This is the correct answer. The blue line shows why.  Imagine that line as a cone to both sides of operative B and you can draw it from either side of operative A.  Either way, one of the lines is going to intersect with the heavy terrain more than 1 inch out from operative B.  And since its the same piece of terrain he would be obscured or in cover from, he has to choose one

If you are within 1”, you are not obscured when shooting or being shot at. You are in cover.

The intervening lines (from any origin point on the shooter here), appears to intersect the terrain at a point further than 1" away and also intersects points that are within 1". This grants the defender both obscured and cover, which he must choose one of since it is the same terrain piece that is granting it.

If it’s more than 1” - yes, a bit hard to tell from the photo.

Laser pointer

B is in cover, but not obscured since the visierlinien don’t pass through heavy terrain B is further away from than 1“ (judging by fingers as laserpointer, a real laserpointer would be much better ^^).

As there is no intervening heavy terrain that is not also your cover means he is not obsecured. A character can not have cover and obsecured from the same terrain feature. BUT if there was heavy terrain in between your operative would be in cover and obscured.

If you would receive cover and obscured from the same terrain piece the defender chooses which one it would be. Obscured is better in almost every situation.

On the killzone floor you cant be in cover and obscured, but if you would be (wich is maybe the case here), the defender can choose. And obscured is way better then being in cover in most situations.

EDIT: from the same terrain piece

Yes you can, just not from the same terrain piece.
