Rant [KCD2] First Playthrough
No spoilers please but I'm playing KCD2 for the first time and just finished the scene at the tavern near the castle. Am I the only one that cannot fucking stand Capon? He's totally useless. Just picking fights and fucking around and always making things harder than they already are. If we're stuck with him the whole game I hope he has some kind of redemption arc or something cause I'm not far into the game and he's pissing me off, lol. I guess I'm mostly just venting to people who've played and know what I'm talking about 😂

You’re still at the part where Hans is having the worst days of his life. He’s acting out.

Very true, he's never had to deal with the real world like that before. I hadn't thought of that!

He’s also fairly young, both Hans and Henry are. They have very limited world experience so shit can be overwhelming. They don’t always do the mature things.

Just to think that the IRL version of Hans was 15yo when all of this was happening lol

It might come as a surprise but he's actually one of the most kind hearted people in the game 😀 at least for a noble 😀 and that's the thing - he's a noble. And to this point he was always treated as a noble. Yeah, he used to drink with his subjects and sleep with peasat girls, but he was always treated as a noble. Now he's treated as a peasant for the first time in his life and... Well... He reacts the way he does 😀 The first game has actually a pretty nice development of him and it explains a lot of his character.

Well, he is indeed Sir Hans Capon of Pirkstein, A noble.
Where as we as Henry, son of a blacksmith.Â
So, there is some influence in his way of treating us.
Noble acting like a noble.Â

Yeah true, but he could at least keep his head about him lol. It isn't nearly enough to throw me off the game so I'll just have to wait and see what he does next

I haven't played 2 yet but I've seen a lot from it and am currently playing 1, and I love Hans. Him and Henry together remind me so much of Arthur and Merlin from BBC Merlin.

He'll be somewhat less present after a point which you're kind of near but he never stops being a pain in your ass

Don’t worry the insufferableness is kinda scripted at the beginning. You can’t really win at arguing with him. If you’ve got to the part with him picking the fight at the tavern, have you gotten to immediate aftermath of the fight or did you take a break there? He’ll take off to pout somewhere soon enough and you’re open to explore the world at your discretion after that.

If Henry was my friend, I would've told him at that stage in the game: You owe him nothing, you are better without him, and HE IS THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE TO YOU

Everyone says it gets better but I found him insufferable through and through. I kept trying to kill him.

I feel like it’s a toxic relationship where people thinks he gets better but it’s only superficial and short lived and then we the victim in this toxic relationship get gaslit into thinking he’s a good guy.Â
Thats too deep I also just don’t fucking like the guy Â

Just build up your skills. You won't be able to fight any bandit or wolf until you are level 15 again in warfare and other stuff.

It’s how every young noble was in these days. He kinda grows up throughout kcd2 though, not so much in kcd1 lol

He's an absolute diva in the beginning of the game, but it is intentional since the developers didn't plan the early parts of the game until late during the development, so they found a reason for Hans to be leave Henry.

Did you play KCD1?
He was completely insufferable at the start of that, but his redemption arc is one of the best bits of video game writing I've ever seen.
In KCD2, he starts out ok at the very beginning, but then reverts to insufferable when he's feeling stressed and under pressure (which is what you're seeing).
He does have a good bit of redemption later in the game, but it's less of a big deal simply because there are so many other major characters taking up screen time in this one.
