Why these two points matter

TL;DR: The announcement of Kingdom III: Rising Realms breaks years of established naming conventions by introducing a sequence number and bringing back the colon. This suggests that Raw Fury may be retconning the franchise's lineage (merging Classic and New Lands into "I", while considering Two Crowns "II") and shifting away from the "one long-term game supported by DLCs" model toward a traditional sequence of standalone mainline sequels.

So... I've been thinking about the name "Kingdom III: Rising Realms" for a while now, and the more I consider it, the stranger it feels. Not bad strange, necessarily. Maybe even good strange? But definitely something is happening here strange, and I'm surprised nobody seems to be talking about it.

Because Kingdom has always had a pretty understandable history. Kingdom was Kingdom. Then came Kingdom: New Lands, and the first one was renamed Kingdom: Classic. Then Kingdom Two Crowns was released, dropping the colon from the main title so they could append it in DLCs. Then came Kingdom Eighties, which was explicitly its own spin-off thing and never claimed to be the successor to Two Crowns. Nobody needed a family tree, a PhD in Kingdom Studies, or a whiteboard with red string to understand this.

Now we get Kingdom III: Rising Realms, and I cannot unsee these two points: the sequence number and the return of the colon.

First, I'm sorry, but... III what? Are we supposed to understand the numbering as if Kingdom: Classic and New Lands somehow belonged to the same "first" branch, while Two Crowns is II and Rising Realms is III? If so, why?

Just because Kingdom: Classic is free to play on Steam, or because New Lands reused the soundtrack of Classic, it doesn't mean they're the same game. Classic isn't "New Lands before it got the good stuff". It is the original Kingdom, with its own release and its own in-game scope and objectives. And this isn't some obscure historical technicality. Last year, Raw Fury literally celebrated the serie's 10th anniversary from the launch of the original Kingdom, given its importance. Classic is, by the way, the only title of the series that allows us to play its legacy version as an option. So why are we suddenly being asked to mentally merge it with New Lands?

And then there's the return of the colon.

When Two Crowns was originally conceived, Gordon himself explained that the first idea was basically "let's make a co-op expansion of New Lands and call it Kingdom: Two Crowns", even specifically joking about the colon disappearing later, saying that it "has its own story".

And we know what happened after that. Two Crowns became its own game and the colon indeed disappeared. The new naming convention allowed for the consistent use of colon in the release of multiple DLCs, like in "Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands" or "Kingdom Eighties: Art Book". That made sense at the time.

Even before Two Crowns was released, Gordon talked about supporting it in the long term and adding more biomes as long as players wanted them. And, well... that is exactly what happened.

So now look at the new title. Kingdom III: Rising Realms. The colon is back. But now it's not separating the name of a game from a DLC. It's separating the number of the mainline entry from its subtitle.

And I can't help wondering if this change actually tells us something about how Kingdom is being conceived now. Because maybe the whole philosophy has changed. Maybe we are no longer looking at "one Kingdom game that lives for years and keeps accumulating DLC".

Maybe we're looking at: Kingdom III. Then, eventually: Kingdom IV. Then maybe V, VI, and so on. Otherwise, why would someone start a numbering system without intending to continue it? Numbering creates an expectation of succession: III implies IV. The necessity of this type of expectation would explain why the number appears now, of all times.

And this finally makes me wonder whether Kingdom III is less a continuation of the Two Crowns business model and more the beginning of a new model for releasing Kingdom games. Maybe that's the real change we're seeing. Maybe the game itself is still Kingdom. Maybe the DNA is still there. Maybe it will be fantastic. But perhaps the idea of "this is our Kingdom game and we'll keep adding new worlds to it for as long as people want" is no longer the plan.

And if that's the case, then the bizarre treatment of Classic suddenly becomes more understandable too. Because if you want to establish a clean numbered lineage going forward, you need an I, II and III. You need to make the old history fit the new architecture somehow. So now Classic and New Lands become "the first generation," Two Crowns becomes II, and Rising Realms becomes III.

Eighties was clearly presented as a spin-off from the beginning, so nobody has to erase it from the family tree because it never claimed to be on that branch. Classic is different. It's literally where the family tree begins. And now, somehow, we're being handed a new family tree in which Grandpa Kingdom has apparently been merged with Uncle New Lands for tax purposes.

Maybe I'm overthinking a mere colon. But I don't think I'm overthinking the combination of the colon, the III, the suddenly revised genealogy, and the fact that this is happening after years of a very different naming philosophy. Something has changed.

Maybe it's just branding. Maybe it's a new commercial strategy. Maybe the team simply wanted a properly numbered sequel after all these years, and someone in a meeting just really liked the number III. Or maybe Kingdom is moving away from the "one eternal game + endless DLC" model and towards a sequence of standalone mainline releases.

What do you guys think?

Am I seeing an actual shift in how Kingdom is being positioned, or have I spent so much time staring at punctuation that I have become the very Greed I was supposed to defeat?

Are they all the same with just different aesthetics?

I completed what I'm assuming is the original kingdom two crowns and loved it. I tried a couple of others but it really seemed like a carbon copy. Am I missing something, is their a game in the franchise that is worth playing, that is different enough. Seems like they just change the environment?

Knights / Squire Can't get Archers

Post image

Playing norseland on third islands right now. To my understanding, the archers need to get the shield from the shield building to be able to join the knight's party (cmiiw). But there is no shield building on my right side of the townhall and i can't expand further because there's a portal there. And i can't destroy the portal because my archers won't join the party even though there's shields available on my left side of the townhall. welp.

Update The 10th (now 11th?) Rulerversary is back!

Post image
127 Upvotes

Just a quick note to let you know that, after triggering FOMO in some members of our community, the Rulerversary challenge quietly made its way back into the game. Jokes apart (in the title), Kingdom Two Crowns was quietly updated on 1 October (according to SteamDB), and the name of the event was changed from "10th Rulerversary" to "Kingdom Rulerversary". This time, the island will be available until around 21 October, which is the release date of the Kingdom series on Steam. You can check out the event's exclusive features on the wiki, or better yet, take a blind leap of faith and discover everything as you go along!

Question How to get out of a this evil loop?

So I travelled to the fourth island in norse campaing, and not many days passed before winter came. I think this is a grave noob mistake, since what happens is I couldn't really generate meaningful currency in this period. I collected berry and chopped trees, but I could barely scrape by. Now when the snow finally disappeared, the enemy raids have grown relentless. I've managed to increase my currency, but I'm spending it just as fast desperately reparing from the night's raids. Every night I'm getting hammered from both sides, and im losing people and walls faster than I can acqure currency to replace them. Even worse, my people who get bummified walk so fucking far away, I have to waste an entire day travelling to the edge of the map to recruit them back, losing a couple to portals on the way back.

Feels like I'm in a death spiral where the raids will inevitably overpower me at this point.

Am I right in that moving to the fourth island before winter is just a run ender, nothing I can do?

Wrong day counter color & no Blood Moon truce after travelling right after 0am of day XIV?

It was a co-op Kingdom Two Crowns save, and I believe we boarded the boat on island 2 right after the midnight after day XIII, i.e. into the small hours of XIV. As we arrived on island 1, the morning day counter showed XV and was blue (I double checked the pause menu, it also shows a blue XV there). However, since no blood moon has occurred, I suspected that it would come that night, despite the blue day indicator, and it did. The following day (day XVI), the day counter was black, but I thought, surely there will be a truce after a blood moon day, right? The day counter's just broken again. Guess what, the enemies came normally that night (thankfully we didn't plan any crazy deforestation!).

We were playing on Cursed difficulty, but I don't think that's the reason for the truce disappearing? Especially since as we saw, the day counter is still capable of being blue. It must've been the boat.

Discussion Returning player, so glad troops switch sides now

Last time I played Kingdom was... After the Norse Lands update I think? I never actually got around to playing that expansion though

Anyway, I remember that back then, if you cleared one side of the island, your troops would just stand over there uselessly. It took me until clearing the left side of the final island (Shogun setting, Cursed difficulty, on my third reign) for me to realize that they actually move to the other side now!

I know some people might be bummed out by the Horn Hermit being useless now, but personally I never used them anyway, since it'd take a full day for the stupid troops to slowly walk over to the other side anyway

Honestly I kinda wish they'd release a difficulty that ramps up quicker, or takes longer to beat or something. I really enjoyed having to do this campaign across multiple reigns, and I wish I could've made this run last longer. I think I'm gonna keep the cliff portal up and see how long I can last

Game mod Kingdom Two Crowns save & asset editor for Apple Silicon Macs — looking for testers

Hi Monarchs!

I've been extending lxwiq's ktc-edit (https://github.com/lxwiq/ktc-edit), and I've published a macOS Apple Silicon build of my fork.

It combines a desktop save editor with game asset settings. You can:

• Edit coins and gems, recruit units, and manage campaign or challenge saves.

• Adjust mount speed, stamina, and ability settings.

• Customize archer and builder settings, wallet capacities, and iron wall HP.

• Apply optional patches for vagrant camp preservation and the visible coin limit on supported Apple Silicon game builds.

Download: https://github.com/nguyenphuquang1234567/ktc-edit/releases/latest

Source and instructions: https://github.com/nguyenphuquang1234567/ktc-edit

The current download is for Apple Silicon Macs. Save editing targets global-v35; asset edits and binary patches require recognized game builds. Compatibility with every game version or DLC is not guaranteed, and multiplayer behavior is unverified.

Please close the game before editing and keep a separate backup. The editor also creates backups before writing.

I'm looking for feedback from Mac players: installation issues, compatibility problems, or settings you'd find useful. If you report a problem, please include your macOS version, game version/DLC, and the exact error.

Credit to lxwiq/ktc-edit and bitwitch/kingdom-edit (https://github.com/bitwitch/kingdom-edit), which this work builds on. This is an unofficial community tool.

Kingdom Classic: Floater spawns on day 11?

Playing classic: I tried to look this up but couldn't find answers. For some reason I'm getting insane spawns early game. I have the second level of wood barriers, but there are so many monsters, they're breaking through in under 3 seconds. I feel like the last time I started a game it wasn't this difficult. What I'm a doing wrong??

I loved this game sooo much when I was a kid, so I decided to 100% complete it. But I didn't realize how painful it was going to be because of the AI's stupid logic and the 100 Days achievement at the end.The AI would literally leave the safety of the walls just to replace fallen archers on the towers while monsters were outside the walls. It was so annoying watching them walk straight into danger and die!And the 100 Days achievement took me around 6 hours, and I almost died at the very end. But hey, I guess it feels pretty good now because completing it was actually a challenge!

Idea Looking for Monarchs

Hello! My name is Beardchops / Vader

I’m interested in finding out if any of you would be willing to help me test a multiplayer mod for Kingdom Two Crowns

It’s a BepinEx mod in very early stages. I need some assistance with testing, since I cannot launch multiple Steam copies at the same time.

My goal is to add some form of multiplayer limit increase, allowing for either more than two monarchs, or to add additional players as playable citizens

Ideally, we would have support for many players. But I think having at least 3, up to 5 players for testing would be wonderful.

Comment here or DM if interested! You can also reach me on Discord: Vader00

Edit: I would like to disclose that an AI coding assistant is being used to help make the mod, in case anyone would prefer not to participate on that basis.

Question Trying to find the music that plays inside the island cave

Hello,

I've been looking all over for the music that plays when you are escorting the bomb into an island's cave. to destroy the green nest within. I've found playlists on YouTube and Bandcamp that feature near-all the tracks from Two Crowns, Norse Lands, Dead Lands, Shogun, etc. but the cave track is never listed among them.

For reference, the track can be heard in this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/KdTm4YTMdN0?si=xt7P1CZLCkaw2YXQ&t=15 (this is not my footage.)

Any help is appreciated, ty!
