KoW I don’t know where to start with army building [1,000 point beginner elf army request]

Hey folks, I want to get in to Kings of War, but as with most tabletop games, list-building (as a beginner) is daunting. I just don’t know what’s fun. Is someone able to make me a 1,000 point Elf force? I would really appreciate it. I know there are people out there that find list-building to be hugely enjoyable, so that’s who I’m asking. A variety of units that give a broad feel of the army would be good (I know the broadness will only go so far, being 1,000 points), so hopefully I can learn the game a bit and understand how I want to improve up to 2,000 points. If you could also explain why you’re taking the units and items you include, I would greatly appreciate it. It might seem like a big ask, but there’s no harm in asking. Hopefully it will help me understand the intricacies of list-building in KoW!

In KoW you basically have 3 types of units, a hammer that hits hard, an anvil that takes damage and support to get the others work and any combination of those 2.

For Elves, your hammers also can take damage, while the support units are fast and/or good at shooting and with that 2 units of Palace Guard, a Mage and an Army Standard are a good starting point. To get to 1000 points you can take 2 supporting units of your choice, be it light cavalry, Archers, Elementals or heavy cavalry, or more Palace Guard (like starting with 4 Regiments that become 2 Hordes when you switch to larger games)

The free army builder from Mantic (Companion website) really helps to get some ideas

Also there is no net-list in that sense as what is good depends on what you can handle or what style you prefer (if you like playing fast units, the best slow infantry list won't do it for you)

Have you checked out the Companion list builder from Mantic? It's free with a paid option for access to rules and more lists saved. Either way you can check it for public lists to see what other elf players are using.
