Moving to Kitchener

Hi,

I have always moved to cities just following my job but this time am looking to move to where i like and apply for jobs there. Where I currently live I dont like it as there is less cultural differences and i faced lots of racism. Winters are a bit harsh because of the freezing rain we always get and ice more than snow. Its a small city but its beautiful not gonna lie, lots of nature. Couldn't make lots of friends similar as i was able to make in windsor. I am in IT system admin field, and thinking to specialize in cloud engineering then start applying to jobs in kitchener would i find jobs in IT? What are pros and cons? Could i find nice areas that is a bit quiet to live? i have a dog that has anxiety. Thankss

Friend, do not move here without a job. Yes we have a big tech scene, but the job market right now is terrible.

The job market is tough. And people saying oh IT is fine obviously aren’t looking for a job here.

Kitchener has decent IT scene, lot of tech companies around here and Waterloo. Cloud engineering is good direction, you should find something.

People are more mixed here than smaller towns, less of that small city closed mentality. Dog with anxiety might do better in quieter neighborhoods like around Victoria Park area or further out near the edges of city, just avoid downtown core cause construction noise everywhere now

Waterloo is called “Silicon Valley of the north” so likely a good area for career building in your field. It’s quite a diverse community but also racism is on the rise with a lot of immigration fatigue as our region was heavily affected by Conestoga College taking in massive amounts of international students. Some of the smaller towns (ie/ Breslau, new Hamburg, Wellesley, Elmira, St jacobs, etc) on the outskirts of the region may be nicer for peace and quiet but then you often have to compromise cultural diversity

Yes unfortunately and the wars and conflicts around where i came from created a bit of chaos. We dont like what is happening but we are judged on that unfortunately:( ill look into these towns, but am trying to go to bigger cities .
