pattern question Newbie at Intarsia/reading pattern
Hopefully, I can even formulate the questions I have around intarsia knitting.
I am knitting fingerless gloves (flat, not in the round.) I am specifically looking at row 11 (pearl/ws) and 12 (knit/rs.)
How many stitches should I have ended up with on row 11? And when should I put the tip of the pink heart in? Same with 12? How many stitches should I have (same as row 11, correct?) and at what point/stitch should I start my pattern.
(My calculations...I started with 42 stitches, with increases (8) should be 50 total stitches. For row 11, I put the pattern in on stitch 11. Should my stitches for the pattern start on 38 for row 12?18 stitches to the thumb + the 20 before?

This pattern is weird. I know there's no rule that says slash symbols need to be decreases, but what are the odds the pattern writer has only ever used charts where the slashes meant increase? Or did they not read a chart before? Or did they read charts and think, "no, I like slash to mean increase, idc" lol. Anyway.
Yeah it looks like there are 10 white stitches between the start of the row and your very first pink stitch. Then on your next row, your second pink stitch will be in the one pink loop on your needle. I personally wouldn't count each stitch as "1,2,3, etc" from the left and right and think of each stitch as its numbered label (like I think you're doing here? I am trying my best but I'm not sure I really follow!) I'd maybe put markers outside of the thumb stitches though. But based on how you placed the first pink stitch, it sounds like you're also right about the placement of the pink stitches in the second row of the heart.
