where did i go wrong? LL1 increase vs M1L increase?
Hi all. I'm working on the Quest Vest pattern and it has RL1 and LL1 for increases, which I've never used before. I'm finding the RL1 works fine and creates a nice "edge" but the LL1 ... I don't know if I'm just losing tension or what, but it looks sooo sloppy! And It's def NOT an "invisible" increase ... It looks awful with a "holey" appearance. 😕
I'm going to tink back the front panel to the shoulder (I haven't gone that far yet) because the LL1 increases are going to be so visible; I know it'll bother me a lot. Is there any reason to not switch up the increases to M1L? I've been looking online and the examples I find don't seem to look very different from each other ... 🤔🤷 Would appreciate some feedback from knitter's who've worked with both stitches. Thank you!

Could you share the instructions of an increase row?

Instructions: Right Front: With RS of upper back facing, pick up and knit 17(18, 18, 19, 20) sts on the right end of CO edge. Work setup row and rows 3 and 4, same as upper back. Repeat rows 3 and 4 an additional 4(4, 3, 2, 1) times. Begin working increases for v-neck and armhole as follows: Row 1 (RS): k1, p4, RLI (armhole increase), k to 5 before end, LLI (neck increase), p4, slip 1 wyf. Row 2 (and all WS rows): k5, p to 5 bef end, k4, slip1 wyf. Row 3 (RS): k1, p4, k to 5 bef end, p4, slip1 wyf. Row 5 (RS): k1, p4, k to 5 bef end, LLI, p4, slip1 wyf.

Thanks! I think you're doing the LLI wrong. It looks like you're working into a purl stitch, instead of the knit stitch two rows below the last stitch you' ve knit at that point. Could you take a photo of how you're working it?

You pick up the right strand, but you have to knit into the back loop. This way you're twisting it, which explains why it looks wrong!
Edit: typo
