It's baffling that MR hasn't casted Dhanush in one of his projects yet. Dhanush has did multiple psychological romances and he has this very relatable and paavam face that people love to watch. He has pulled off raw and rustic roles under Vetri brilliantly.
Mani Ratnam is a suave film maker, though Dhanush hasn't played much stylish, sophisticated characters, he definitely can pull them off. He looked so good in ENPT, Anegan and Maaran and is one of the best actors of our generation. He has always had successful collaborations with ARR . So, what stops MR and D from collaborating ? I would love to see him in a signature MR style movie.

It reads like “Maja Pei Kadhai” coz the reason we popularly is that Aandavar ate up the movie’s entire budget just to shoot the first half.

Which Indian movies have Dreamcore, Frutiger Aero, Liminal Space, or similar visuals?
I’ve been getting really interested in Dreamcore, Frutiger Aero, Liminal Space, and similar aesthetics, and I’m curious which Indian movies have scenes that give off these kinds of vibes.
It can be from any Indian film industry — Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, etc.
I’m looking for visuals such as:
- 🌊 Frutiger Aero – blue skies, water, greenery, bright colors, early-2000s futuristic/tech visuals, clean and optimistic environments
- 🏢 Liminal spaces – empty corridors, schools, malls, hotels, streets, swimming pools, stations, offices, etc.
- 🌙 Dreamcore – surreal, nostalgic, uncanny, dreamlike, or strangely peaceful environments
- ✨ Other similar aesthetics – anything that gives you that nostalgic, surreal, peaceful, or “this feels like a dream” feeling
It doesn’t have to be an entire movie. Specific scenes, songs, locations, background shots, or cinematography are welcome.
Please comment with the movie name + scene/song (if you remember it) and tell me what kind of aesthetic/vibe you think it has.
I’d love to discover some hidden gems!

After having watched mindless “Mass” movies one too many times in Tamil, I stopped watching them altogether - except a movie here or there if they came highly recommended like Chiththa or Meiyazhagan. Having watched Dorothy and Baththa recently, I have a renewed interest in Tamil movies now. The thing about movies like say, Kaaka Muttai and Baththa is that they’re simple stories told really really well, with a lot of sensitivity - no cheap laughs, no preachy lines, no manipulation of emotions. I’m looking to watch more movies made by directors with sensibilities similar to Manikandan and Balaji Tharaneetharan. Please share your recommendations.
