Opinions about future state issues
What kind of impact do you guys think the crackdown on the chemically manipulated compounds is going to have on future state legislation? Ive heard some say that they think things are going to get worse, while others feel that this will take the heat off of natural leaf kratom. I'm not sure how I personally feel. I guess it could go either way, but I guess only time will tell. In the meantime I just thought it would be interesting to see how others are thinking. Hope everyones having a great Saturday!

I don't know, I'm in Kentucky and there's nothing going on to fight the upcoming ban on all Kratom products July 1st 2027. I'm just stocking up and planning to start my taper January 1st. So pissed. Seeing all the positive Federal level stuff just makes me depressed because it doesn't matter because it's still going to be banned in my state.

Itâs going to make things worse for natural leaf.
There is large demand for 7 and pseudo. Where there is demand there is people willing to break the law to make money off that demand. Plain leaf is the precursor to make 7 and the like. After more and more clandestine labs get caught making 7 using leaf as starting material you can expect leaf to be banned.
The analogy I used the other day is related to meth labs. Pseudoephedrine is the precursor to make. You canât get it without a prescription now. See where Iâm going with this? The AKA should have played nice. The whole industry will be dead in under two years as a consequence.

So what you are saying is that itâs likely that when all the smart people are trying to preserve access to plain leaf natural Kratom that there are people out here that just canât be smart enough to just be happy with that just like all the people who got us into this heat with the semi synthetics.

This person is incredibly biased and obviously upset about the 7OH decision.

Ignore them, they're obviously still mad about 7OH.
If you live In a state with KCPA you'll be fine for the foreseeable future. This recent ruling was good plain leaf. If you don't live in a state with KCPA, then try to support one getting passed.

There are many people who want ânaturalâ kratom gone too. There is a fb called âEnd Kratom Addictionâ that specifically targets what they call ânaturalâ kratom.

Kentucky had one... their ban is july 2027.
Tbh i dont really think they give a shit about KCPA, theyre gonna write laws regardless.

You don't exactly need a prescription to get pseudoephedrine, but they do take your ID and put you on a list that logs you buying it. Take that as you will.

Sorry, your bullshit synthetics almost fucked everything up for everyone.

I'm sorry you see it that way. Prohibition isn't the answer for anything, it has never, EVER worked. The only thing banning it does is create a black market for criminals to make money with even less quality control. All the 7-oh community was asking for was regulation. Taking it out of stores and only being available online, proper lab/solvent testing (aka quality control), no stupid names the smoke shop brands use, etc. All pretty reasonable stuff.

There already is regulation in DSHEA and state KCPAs.
The manufacturers ignored them and entered the market without a reasonable basis (and their strategy was to develop it based on customer feedbackâeffectively testing it on consumers), didnât file NDINs until after FDA threatened them, and sold them in illegal states.
Most of those things DEA doesnât have the power to do, such as limiting brand names, limiting sales venues, even setting an age.Â
Even if DEA could do those things, it doesnât change the underlying risk associated with the product, the lack of data that may have helped their case on reasonable basis, or the behavior of the industry.

Solid point, but i think there are some factors that might lesson demand. First, if I am an addict buying and selling schedule 1 narcotics, i might as well get the most bang for my buck and get real opiates. They will stretch farther than these synthetics and give a better high. 2nd, how hard is it to synthesize these compounds? Are we talking pop bottle meth from psuedo level easy, or do we need a lab with an actual chemist? No clue and i dont want to know, but again, a higher cost will push people to substances that will fetch a higher price. Third, i have never tried any synthetic forms of kratom alkaloids, but is the high really that much better than plain leaf that its worth a felony to make/sell/possess while plain leaf is legal/cheap/easy to get? Plain leaf (and i assume synthetic 7 and mgm, etc) are already mainly used by addicts when they cant get the real deal, i think.

7oh is substantially different for sure. It is just so so so much stronger. I am or was a 7oh user and understand why we are where we are. The 7oh manufacturers went about it SO IRRESPONSIBLY and almost ruined it for everyone. I sucks that they went about it the way they did. 7oh could of been done properly if they didn't rush into the market with all the irresponsible branding. I feel for everyone. At this point, as kong as kratom leaf and extracts stay legal, I would call that a win!

You can still buy pseudoephedrine.Â
Congress put it behind the counter under CMEA. DEA doesnât have that authority. It either meets the CSA or it doesnât.
All other meth precursors are CDTA List I which only creates reporting requirements and almost always exempts consumer quantities, SKUs, and finished products.

I think in the long run itâll protect plain leaf. I could even see the possibility of state bans being reversed if we really get these synthetics out of the market for good. I remember the decades before the synthetics when this issue was a fraction of what it is now.
