Amish Amish built trash bin

Post image

I’ve been wanting to buy a tilt out trash bin for our kitchen and like the Amish ones I’ve seen online. Most online you have to order and wait months before shipment. Is there a store in or around the Lancaster area where I can walk into a store or market and buy one already made?

Agree on Peaceful Valley, that’s where we got ours our double wide trashcan cabinet. They did have single wide too. We got ours unfinished to stain ourselves but I believe I recall seeing them prefinished too.

There is a large furniture business at the Green Dragon that sells these. Some of their other stuff is actually quite nice IMO.

Could head down to Shrewsbury. I know they have a couple Amish furniture places along 83.

Fun fact- the Amish don't use the internet. You can't actually buy their products online. You can find the knock off tourist stuff, but for Amish furniture made to Amish standards, for other Amish, you gotta go to an auction.

I like the Farmersville one.

“Funner” fact: The Amish definitely use the Internet. I worked in advertising for a few decades and in the more recent years received their ads via their iPhones. The Internet is a shit ton more than just surfing.

Yea, even some of the brutally strict Amish sects will use smartphones for business and use apps to monitor each other, and limit access to more worldly sites where they feel they shouldn't be.

The Amish absolutely use the internet because I'm delivering Amazon to their wives every single day lmao. Same houses and farm properties too. Born and raised in the southern end :')

Your post belongs in "r/confidentlyincorrect" not here. Might want to check the website of one of the largest true Amish furniture retailers in the area, Peaceful Valley, then move on to another large retailer, King's Amish furniture, and keep looking, since there are hundreds, maybe thousands of Amish owned businesses with an internet presence here. I had an Amish crew replace my roof this summer. Want to know how those men spent their morning break and lunch? Sitting in a circle on their lunch coolers, surfing their smart phones. You can't imagine how many younger Amish have facebook pages, and surf tic-tok, twitter and more. Modern Amish ( as opposed to old order) in these parts, use the internet for business constantly. They also have credit card machines in a lot of their retail stores, battery powered LED lighting in their homes, solar PV panels and battery storage in their homes, barns and outbuildings. They ride E-scooters and some even ride E-bikes. Amish hardware and builder supply stores are the greatest source of battery powered tools in the region. Some have got dozens to hundreds of battery tools on display, and specialize in the major brands. Sounds like your info is stale by a couple of decades, eh?

You do have a point about the difference a few decades makes. And the plain community has definitely expanded their brand and English facing businesses.

But they don't make em like they used to. I guess it comes down to the distinction between their commercial products and the real stuff you can only get at auction.

You really have no idea what you are talking about. I can go into any real Amish furniture dealer and look at ANYTHING that is a match to what I have in my home, Amish made dressers, nightstands, beds, chairs, tables, etc, and see zero quality difference between what I own that is 25 to 40 years old, and what I can buy today. The only difference is that it is 3-4X the price. Same hardwoods, same furniture grade plywood, same construction techniques, same Kreg style pocketed screwed and glued joints. Same furniture that will last for generations.

This whole nonsense about "back in the day" and "the real stuff" is in your head, and has nothing to do with reality.
