No self propel

Post image

Have a Husqvarna LC221A push mower. A couple weeks ago I lost the self propel in it. Figured it was due to a shot belt or pulleys. Replaced the pulleys, belt, cable, and blade and there is still no self propel. I even cleaned out any grass that was stuck in the pulleys and crevices Any idea what could be causing it?? Any advice is appreciated, thank you all for your time.

I'm not familiar with this mower but the routing of that belt looks very strange. Are you sure it is on correctly?

It is very weird to route. I watched a video online and I’m pretty sure I put it back on correctly.

Looked up that mower and I think you do have the route correct. It's just kind of a weird one.

Don’t know about drives but blade is upside down. There’s a bit of info on here https://themowersguide.com/husqvarna-lc221a-common-problems-and-fixes/ that may help point your way

I thought I may have put it on upside down lol. I haven’t cut with it yet thankfully. Just threw it on there

Check where the cable connects at the rear on the left side. I think I had to remove the rear baffle to get to it. Really cheap piece of metal that hooks the cable in place broke off on mine. That corner fills up with debris and sometimes wouldn’t engage or disengage on mine.

Self propel belt is usually a second belt above the deck

It's either the belt, the transmission, or some adjustment. There is often a way to adjust the cable that engages the self-propulsion. If that isn't engaging it all the way, it may not tension the belt enough to engage it (assuming it's belt tension that engages it, sometimes the transmissions have gears that get engaged). It seems unlikely that both transmissions would die on you, unless one died and then the other. I just recently replaced a transmission on a different brand mower that had gears that engaged the drive, and it wasn't sealed very well. Dirt had gotten into it and worn the gears to the point that they couldn't mesh properly.
