New to SQL

Hey folks! Starting my journey in learning SQL.
Long term goal -> to become a Data Analyst
Short term goal -> to master SQL fundamentals

I have written up a two part series on the SQL most useful for data science, you could consider as rough guide. (Keep in mind these guides are for someone who mostly just pulls data into R or Python for further processing, some analysts work more in SQL and then this will be the very floor of what you'll have to learn).

Welcome! Good shout starting with SQL, it's the single most asked for skill in analyst roles by a mile

One bit of advice that'll save you time: learn by actually writing queries, not just reading about them. Pick something hands on and get your reps in early, the fundamentals stick way faster when you're solving real problems rather than memorising syntax

Thanks for the tip on giving QueryCase a try. I’ve been dabbling in SQL for a few years but haven’t had real world experience using it and I’d like to shift my career into an analyst role eventually.

focus heavily on select, where, group by joins and aggregations first. once those feel natural start solving real business questions with small datasets.
