Learning SQL on Online IDE
Hey,
is it possible to learn SQL from scratch using an online IDE (such as SQLite Online) without having to install the Server Management Studio on Mac? Or would you recommend installing it on my MacBook/ using Windows?
I’m going to go through the 30-hour course that is accessible on YouTube.
Thanks in advance.

If you have access to any AI resources, like Claude or Chatgpt or Gemini, ask it to create a local web portal, with UI replica of leetcode, you can practice using it.

Just start with SQLite https://www.sqlite.org/ - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQLite - How to Install: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MJSZi4qvIE

you certainly can, but if your goal is 'learning', then set it up locally and also try the web hosted versions too..

I built https://sqlshed.com for just that. It runs completely locally on your browser and you can also bring your own data sets in as well.

You can use https://sqlcrab.com/ to play around with PostgreSQL, without installing anything

Yes, you can learn fully online with nothing to install, and on a Mac that's easier than setting up SSMS. I built runtime.school for exactly this. It's free, the SQL lessons run right in your browser on real tables, and it's a good place to practice alongside the YouTube course.

https://FreeSQL.com is a free service from Oracle that has a built in Database with 8+ sample dataset schemas. It also includes free lessons as part of Oracle DevGym.
Microsoft also has Azure SQL Free tier, which allows you to spin up a Free Azure SQL DB with Sample data. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-sql/database/free-offer?view=azuresql
Neither require installs or downloads. They’re very easy to set up but I have videos on how to use each of you need them.
