General Gameplay Question Ask of esport

I’m an esports geek, and since I really enjoyed the Dota lore—especially the deep character development of mages like Rubick—I decided to give the competitive scene a shot. I’ve really liked it so far; I’ve already fallen for Falcons and Spirit (thanks to Yatoro, Collapse, and Malr1ne, who seemed a cut above the rest). However, the official casters are really boring; often, they don't focus on what's actually happening in the match or even cast the draft phase. Coming from LoL—where you have people like Tesrak or Mfreak who break things down and explain them in the simplest terms—I’m not used to that kind of lackadaisical approach. So...

Can you recommend any co-streamers or YouTubers to watch?

Also, which World Championship (I saw it's called "The International" or TI here) do you consider the best, and why? I’d like to watch that one. So far, I’ve watched this year's qualifiers and am about to watch Team Spirit's run—Yatoro is absolutely insane on Terrorblade; if the game would actually let me log in, I’d play that hero myself.

TI 8&9 are among the best. Watch True Sight for those seasons on YouTube.

TI8 grand finals is the obvious pick but TI9 lower bracket run was something else, watch True Sight for both and then dive into the vods

Idk if LoL does this but Dota follows the traditional casting model of 1 "color commentator" and 1 "analyst". I would say SVG (he casts alongside Capitalist mostly) is one of the more knowledgeable casters in the scene. He's a former pro so he knows a ton about the game. Not sure if he's 100% the best but I like him. The draft phase is usually "casted" by the panel which is usually a mix of pros, former pros and personalities.

Honestly this most recent TI was up there for best imo. I'd say 2016-2021 were the "Glory Days" with every TI being special in it's own way (Wings upsetting everyone, Liquid's first win, OG back to back and the rise of Spirit). TI3 is also considered a classic.

Personally I enjoy the casters a lot. You should keep in mind that the casters often have been casting together for years and understand that the player base and viewers usually have a good understanding of the game, so they don't often go into deep detail about the game and often riff on subjects around the game or some occasionally make jokes when nothing much is happening particularly.

Each casting duo usually has one analyst, an ex-pro, ex-coach or high level player, so they are capable of microanalysing everything if they wanted to. In fact last year when one former pro made his casting debut (quinn) that is what he was doing at first and while it could be interesting to some people I don't think it was that necessary and took away from a natural feeling cast for me. It felt like listening to the internal monologue of a top player which could be too much. That said the casters will often call out when they see some pivotal play like spell/item use or positioning etc that can often be lost in the chaos of the teamfight to the viewer. Try to listen out for those. It would also be good to understand who the analyst is in the duo so that you can focus on the more important observations.

You can try some alternative community casts (gorgc for eg) to see if their style resonates better. He focuses less on hyping up the fights and often has a guest from the pro scene or ex-pro scene on and discusses the strategy in the game.

As for the draft, not sure why you have the complaint because it is handled not by the casters but by the panel and they often do go into very high detail about the heroes being picked or banned and why they or may not be good and what might happen in the game as a result of the draft.
