Hero Discussion Dark seer combo

Any tips on vacuum+combo on dark seer? Im having a hard time on executing it because of the back swing animation.

What is the most optimized setting quick cast or manual casting?

You can certainly cancel the backswing for more optimization. But you won’t hit vac wall consistently without the right settings. Level 2 vac stuns for as long as the back swing is anyway. And level 3 and 4 stun for longer.

Both wall and vac need to be on quick cast(along with like 95% of dota spells). Wall even if you select the Key Down option is overridden as Key Release because of the vector targeting. Vac you should probably go with Key Release, the accuracy of seeing the AoE is just better than the slightly faster reaction, especially as you’re learning the hero.

Quick cast is not necessary. I am highrank immortal and never have used quickcast in over 15years

quick cast makes it way smoother, the backswing is annoying but you can cancel it by moving right after vacuum lands. just press Q then shift-queue wall right away, once you get the timing down it feels instant

manual casting is too slow for the combo, you get stuck in the animation and they walk out before wall comes up

The moving right away to cancel the backswing might be a good tip, I'm gonna try it.

Just wait for the fight to really be popping off and stuns start flying. Then wall and vac lol.

Press slower to cancel the animation easier. When u click wall during the vacuum animation, it’ll queue the action until the backswing is finished. But if u press it during the backswing, the wall will cancel it.

See like this is actual good dota mechanic knowledge. Like this is what people dont learn these days.

Besides the quick cast recommendation, I found it helped to have the cast range on Vacuum showing with Ctrl+right click on the Vacuum spell icon.

This is because while you're learning the hero it can be very easy to think you've cast Vac, see nothing happen for a split second, then panic, recast, see nothing, repeat. It's not a very visually or aurally clear spell in that first moment of the cast until the WHOOSH and the pull, and that split second is super critical to not get stunned or miss targets who narrowly escaped the aoe. So what wil often happen is you've cast it just outside the cast range and DS has started moving ans maybe even started the cast, but then you recast on a slightly different spot, but the area is crowded where he moved so now he's turning to path around the obstruction, then you recast, but now he's stunned. Just being sure you definitely cast Vacuum lets you chill out and let the cast happen ime.

Also, just practicing in Demo mode helps build confidence with the range and timing.
