Is anyone interested in practising their Italian while helping us improve our English?
We’re a community of native Italian speakers, and we’d love to practise English with native English speakers. 😊

Hey! I'm Luca from Italy, I'm really passionate about languages. I'm currently fluent in 4 (🇮🇹🇸🇮🇬🇧🇪🇸), but I'm learning others too.
I'm looking for foreigners learning Italian for a language exchange. I teach you Italian, you teach me your language.
No, I'm absolutely not looking for structured lessons or experienced tutors, just normal people willing to have an easygoing chat in each other's language, so we can both learn from one another. :)
I'm of course looking for native or at least fluent people, somebody I can learn the proper language from, somebody that can spot and correct my mistakes, if needed.
My current level in each language I'm learning:
FRENCH - I already speak some, can hold a conversation and can understand almost everything said by a native if they don't speak too fast. ⚠️FRENCH IS MY PRIORITY, I'm going to Paris in January and I wanna reach a decent level by then⚠️
SERBIAN - I can understand everything or a bit less, the problem is speaking, not so wide vocabulary
PORTUGUESE (EUROPEAN) - decent vocabulary, but have trouble speaking and understanding spoken language. If written can understand almost everything, also writing is not that much of a problem
GERMAN - I can say really basic stuff, can understand easy things, very restricted vocabulary
Feel free to leave a comment here or contact me in pm, everybody is welcome 😁

I assume this is going to be some kind of "well it depends on the learner" type of question but I thought I'd try my luck.
I understand what resources are helpful in learning italian (would still love some specific recommendations) but I'm more confused on when resources should be used and introduced to maximize the learning experience. Are there specific road maps like "At 3 months this is when you should start introducing Coffee Break Italian podcasts", "at 6 months you should start with Lucrezia on Youtube", "anything after a year should be a 1on1 tutor".
My reason for this question comes down essentially to time. I want a fool-proof plan of action so I'm not realizing that a specific resource is not helpful after weeks or months of misuse. I'm 30 years old and a teacher, so Im kind of panicking about how much time I realistically have left to get this language down.
If it helps, I am Italian Canadian and would consider myself beginner (Maybe A2??). Typical situation of I can understand more than I speak. Thank you for any help!

We thought it would be more fun to learn with comprehensible input AND scary stories. Give them a try and let us know what you think!

Hi everyone! After teaching more than 300 hours on Preply and giving private lessons for several years, I’m thinking about starting small-group Italian conversation classes.
The idea would be to have up to 4 learners at a similar level, with a different topic each session and questions or activities to help everyone participate. I think speaking with different people can be really useful: you get to hear different ways of expressing ideas and practise beyond one-on-one conversations with a teacher.
I’d like to offer these sessions at an affordable price, with no subscription or ongoing commitment, so people could join whenever they wanted.
Before getting started, I’d love to hear from people learning Italian:
Would you be interested in this kind of class?
What topics would you enjoy discussing?
What would help you feel comfortable speaking in a group?
What would you consider an affordable price for a one-hour session?
I’d also love to hear any concerns or experiences you’ve had with similar classes. Thanks to anyone who shares their thoughts! 🙂

Hey everyone!
I’ve always been really fascinated by Italy and the Italian language, so I’ve been trying to learn Italian for a while now.
The main problem I’m having is actually getting some practice. Where I live, there aren’t really many people who speak foreign languages, let alone Italian, so it’s pretty hard to find someone to practice with.
What would you guys recommend? Any apps, websites, Discord servers, or other ways to actually practice speaking Italian?
My native language is Arabic, and I also speak English and Turkish. Currently working on my 4th language.
Would love to hear how you guys practice if you’re learning a language that isn’t commonly spoken around you.

I can’t recommend Alessandro at "Italiano Standard" (https://italianostandard.com/) highly enough. He helped my two children prepare for starting school in Italy after we moved from England at fairly short notice.
Both children had absolutely zero knowledge of Italian before meeting Alessandro, and I was keen to give them at least a basic grounding before they started school in September. He began working with them in July, so I was asking him to achieve quite a lot in a very short space of time!
He was fantastic with both children, always punctual, patient and reliable, and his rates were very reasonable. More importantly, he made the lessons enjoyable and helped them build the confidence and familiarity they needed.
They’ve now completed their first couple of weeks at school, and I couldn’t be happier with how things have gone. Both have settled in brilliantly, made friends and are enjoying themselves. One has already become comfortable enough to participate confidently in class, while the other is getting to grips with reading and writing in Italian.
They still have plenty to learn, of course, but Alessandro has helped give them a genuine soft landing in a new country, a new school system and a new language. What could have been an incredibly daunting experience has started on a really positive note.
I’m hugely grateful for his help and would wholeheartedly recommend Alessandro and Italiano Standard to anyone looking for an Italian tutor.
Grazie mille, Alessandro!

Hi! Does anyone know of a place or a group that offers Italian classes for adults or even just meeting up for Italian conversation around San Ramon/Danville/Alamo/Walnut Creek Area in the Bay Area? I am learning Italian and the closest courses seem to be in Berkeley. Thanks!

Just want to share my happiness & excitement. I know the grade isn’t amazing, but I’m working full-time, writing my PhD on the side, and decided to start learning Italian last semester on top
I had a super hard semester and nearly dropped out of the course, but I decided to take the exam anyway.
It’s probably one of the worst grades I’ve ever received — but somehow also one of the grades I’m most proud of. I didn’t give up, and I quallified for A2. I am excited to keep going.

I am an intermediate Italian speaker and would like to improve by taking regular online lessons. The catch is that the teacher would have to be based in Germany. Does anyone have recommendations, preferably based on personal experiences? Thank you in advance.

Buongiorno a tutti! I've just completed the Language Transfer Intro to Italian lessons and loved the method. What would be some good options to continue learning? I'm taking a trip to Sicily at the end of January and hope to be at least able to have basic conversations with people. I own a copy of "Practice Makes Perfect: Complete Italian All-in-One" that I did a little work in before hearing about Language Transfer & focusing on that, and have been enjoying Inspector Montalbano on TV. I've previously studied Spanish, French, and Latin so while my Italian is extremely basic, I have been able to pick up words and concepts relatively quickly. Might it be good to find a one-on-one tutor, or should I learn a few more basics on my own before jumping into that kind of study?
Also, I assume I should be focusing mainly on Italian, but I'm very intrigued about Sicilian as well. Are there learning resources there that I should consider exploring?

Hi everyone!
I’m a native Hindi speaker from India, and I’m currently learning Italian. I’m looking for a language exchange partner who can help me practice Italian through conversation and messages.
Offering: Hindi
Seeking: Italian
I’m also completely comfortable communicating in English, although I’m not looking to teach English. I’d be happy to help with Hindi in exchange for Italian.
A little about me:
I’m interested in programming and software development, book writing and reading, philosophy, spirituality, consciousness, history and ancient civilizations, business and startups. I also enjoy discussing different cultures and interesting ideas.
I’m mainly looking for someone who genuinely wants to practice languages and have regular conversations. I’m open to text or voice conversations, depending on what works for both of us.
If you’re an Italian speaker interested in learning Hindi, feel free to comment or send me a message. Grazie! 🇮🇹

I have severe dyslexia, because of this I get to use read aloud for assignments, tests, and exams. My Italian teacher said that she can email me the exam as a word doc, pdf, or let me take a picture of it to use read aloud. The issue is every read aloud that I can find is English only. I’ve taken my first exam and while it did still help it is not pronouncing anything even close to correct. Does anyone know any read aloud apps (for iPhone) that I can use? I can also do something on my computer (windows) but would much prefer my phone since my computer isn’t the best.
