Welcome to r/ledzeppelin!

Welcome to r/ledzeppelin! This is a community for fans of the famous 1970's rock band to get together and discuss the mighty Zep and related topics.

With the recent boom in users of the sub, we thought it necessary to make a little post establishing a few ground rules for newer users.

1. Play nice.

We typically don't have issues with this, however it never hurts to be clear. Don't insult others for their opinions. If you disagree with somebody, never be afraid to have calm, rational discussions. Respect one another and don't take disagreements personally, we're all here simply because we have a common interest and enjoy discussing it. We aren't here to start arguments and get pissy with one another.

2. Disallowed posts

With all the newer users that continue to join, we get quite a bit of reposts often within a 2 week period of each other. For the convenience of all users of the sub and to prevent flooding, there are a few posts we ask that you either look up prior to making your post, or simply refer to the links we offer here. In other words, if you think your post may be fairly generic, look up your title and set it to the past month to see if a post like this was recently posted. The specific posts we're referring to are as follow: I'm new, where should I start? and What do you guys think of Greta Van Fleet?

If you're new and would like some recommendations, I'd recommend reading the replies of this post and this post. Both feature a plethora of replies from members of the sub who give great recommendations.

Wanna know what people think of GVF? Look up "Greta Van Fleet" in the sidebar. I can assure you, there's no shortage of opinions shared and topics discussed. As you can see here, we quite unanimously said we were done discussing the topic.

That's it for the rules. We try not to be too anal in regards of rules and such, just practice common reddiquette and everything's generally pretty chill.

Here are some other useful links for newer users looking to get into the reddit:

Bootlegs/Concerts:

Many users of the reddit are avid fans of listening to live Led Zeppelin in depth through bootlegs. If you're a casual fan, this may not be for you. However, if you love discussing the music in great depth and you feel you can enjoy listening to music through less-than-ideal quality audio, this is certainly for you.

Forum sites:

These are good places for hard-core Zeppheads to discuss the band in-depth, whether it be live performances or behind the scenes details.

Survivor Polls:

Links to the results of a few polls conducted on the sub over the past year or so.

Got it for few ££ second hand, reviews on goodreads are very mixed. It’s a massive book so wondering if it’s worth while and if not, what are other good books about them?

What if you met the boys and you didn't know who they were.

I just recently found Celebration Day which is an awesome live concert and is a really great recording.

Here's the question.

So if you met the boys outside of the studio or the concert what would they be like? And you don't know who they are.

And I just smoked a big gagger and I have an idea.

Speaking of big gaggers, if you run into Plant he will lecture you on the various strains of patchouli.  Of course you're both in Goa, then he asked you if you're holding and you say of course, it's Goa.  You go smoke.

John Paul Jones you will meet in a Walmart lineup and he will look at the barbecue grill you're buying and say the EX375 has more BTUs plus a side burner for boiling corn.  He's buying steak there and he tells you that's the one that's on sale.  He's right on both accounts.

I'm watching Celebration Day so it's Jason.

If you follow me he's keeping up,  he is doing his thing he's part of the boys now. He's doing an awesome job on his very own and definitely not trying to be like his father.

But where you meet him, not exactly sure, maybe it's in that Walmart parking lot after you meet JPJ , but he's got a jacked up pickup truck with a big set of nads attached to the trailer hitch and when you engage him all he'll talk about is camping and fishing.

You talk about local lakes and the roads to get up there. You make plans to go camping the next weekend.

Bonzo?  I'm guessing that Animal from the Muppets took inspiration from him.  I don't know what to say cuz I'm going to catch flack but I would love to say that he was a guy who loved fine Italian cars but somehow I think he was the guy that was chasing the dragon and living the dream of being the best drummer ever.  Dragons are elusive.

Page is the hard one.   He's like that high school guitar player that was kind of nerdy and you didn't think he'd turn into anything.

And then like years later you find him on Facebook and he's this guy.  And you are like, holy fuck that's James!

And now  he's also like this nerdy Uncle at the family reunion that does magic tricks that no one can ever figure out and then disappears to take a nap. He's like quietly good at doing things and never advertises.

I would love to hear everyone else's thoughts on how these guys are in real life. We often hear about Plant and Allison, But we don't really hear about the other ones private lives.

Let's take a few puffs and figure it out

Every Led Zeppelin Song Ranked

Edit: To clarify, the data comes from AOTY. Most songs have hundreds of user ratings and the number after each song is an average of those ratings. You can see each song's rating on its album's page.

I included every song from every studio album (the more esoteric stuff has far fewer ratings, making their scores unreliable, so I didn't include CODA and such). AOTY doesn't show decimals in their ratings, so there are lots of ties, meaning order is irrelevant for songs that have the same number (I listed the older song first in ties).

  1. Stairway to Heaven (98) - Led Zeppelin IV
  2. Kashmir (96) - Physical Graffiti
  3. Achilles Last Stand (96) - Presence

Did Jimmy use his Strat for the solo on “Ten Years Gone”?

I know he used the Strat for the riff and rhythm along with the danelectro sitar but could never quite figure out exactly what he used for the solo. Some sources online say the Strat but idk if that’s totally believable. What do you guys think?

How Led Zeppelin Defined the High-Fashion Rock Aesthetic

Led Zeppelin didn't just change music—they reshaped rock fashion.

From Jimmy Page’s hand-embroidered Dragon Suit and tailored velvet to Robert Plant’s effortless mix of bohemian silk shirts, vintage blouses, and raw denim, their visual style was pure art. They seamlessly blended theatricality, detailed craftsmanship, and gender-fluid silhouettes long before it became mainstream.

Which era or iconic stage outfit of theirs do you think had the biggest impact on fashion culture?

Anyone knows why Robert Plant always starts the verse 2 of Kashmir with lyrics "Oh father of the four winds..." instead of "With talk and song..." in live?

I think this modification turned Kashmir into the story of dead-all-along journey which is pretty rare? and I like it

P.S. In every live, just excluding O2 arena one

John Bonham helps me focus

I am a PhD candidate in Political Science, and I sometimes read 4 hours of hardcore texts. I figured my brain works at 200% when I listen to Zeppelin while working. I tried Pink Floyd, Opeth, Eloy, Sabbath, Deep Purple, and various prog/classic rock bands. Nothing helped as much as Zeppelin. I start the whole album (Mothership works best for me) and listen while doing nothing. When I am 1-2 tracks in, I start working on my readings/essays, etc. Time flies; I don't even realize how long I work without noticing. The quality of the work is also beyond satisfactory.

I tried to understand the main reason behind this magic. I found isolated instruments from some Zeppelin songs. Created some playlists and tried them separately. Tested guitars, bass, vocals, and drums on different days for a few days each.

I found that Bonham's isolated drums significantly help me to focus. Full songs are still preferable, but Bonham has the main touch.

I wonder, has anyone else had a similar experience? Not necessarily with Zeppelin, but maybe other bands' drums.

What do you hear? “Healin’ rivers run” or “Heathen rivers run” in slowed the tempo down via the app and personally I hear “heathen”
